I love Oh My Girl to death but they are definitely being overworked.

I don't really keep up with the news so I never knew about JinE having anorexia. I hope she takes care of herself. :/

Music (playlist)
  • BAMBINO - Moonlight Shower
BAMBINO may be better known for their... dancing (NSFW: ex. 1 and ex. 2), but this is a surprisingly decent summer dance track that has both fancy footwork and samples from capsule's "Starry Sky".
  • BLACKPINK - BOOMBAYAH
YG's highly anticipated girl group that was teased for nearly four years. This is a very high energy EDM track coupled with Teddy's goofy hard lyrics ("Middle finger up, F U pay me"). See also the live performance for this song; they have a crazy move where one member throws herself into the arms of the others.
  • BLACKPINK - WHISTLE
A minimalistic hiphop song with a sweet acoustic pop pre-chorus.
  • Cosmic Girls - Secret
The first Cosmic Girls release that introduces "honey vocalist" Yeonjung of Produce 101/I.O.I fame. It's a midtempo dance track based on shuffle rhythm, and the 8-bit synth works very well in it. See also the eye contact dance practice video.
  • FIVE RUN STRIKE - Round & Round
An elusive pop-rock track with female vocals that is quite rare in today's mainstream K-pop. The lead singer is Ram of the now disbanded D-UNIT.
  • I.O.I - Whatta Man (Good Man)
I.O.I bringing their own girl crush version of "Whatta Man" after Linda Lyndell (1968) and Salt-n-Pepa with En Vogue (1994). Props to the lyricist who got "알아 너는 good man" ("ara neoneun good man") to sound incredibly similar to "what a mighty good man".
  • Park Jimin - Try
A laid back song with the pleasant vocals of the first winner of K-Pop Star (2011).
  • LABOUM - Shooting Love
A very cute, hyperactive song from one of my favorite underrated girl groups. The music video is also released in 4K!
  • Nine Muses A - Lip 2 Lip
A fun Melbourne bounce track with a bit of retro new wave mixed in. Nine Muses recently lost their main rapper after her contract expired, but Sojin does a fine job in this.
  • SPICA - Secret Time
SPICA's return after nearly two years, and these power vocalists did not disappoint.
  • UNICORN - BLINK BLINK
Very reminiscent of a track you'd hear on Red Velvet's The Red. Extra points for outdoing the typical number of cuts in a T-ara video. See also the dance version as an alternative.

It's been exactly 6 years since her addition to Nine Muses. That means Kyungri's contract is only going to last for about a year and a couple months.

I wonder why Hyemi renewed her contract though...

It's funny how NINE Muses now has NINE ex-members, if it was Hyemi instead of Hyuna that'd mean the whole original line-up would have been gone already.

PS: Sunhwa left Secret some days or weeks ago too, what is surprising is that they didn't disband

Everyone saw Sunhwa leaving from a mile away, it was more a matter of when than if.

People are guessing Sungah is gonna leave 9 Muses left. 9 Muses were a 'group' a long time before they debuted and Hyemi was the last to join, literally right before their debut, so there's no confirmation she actually has renewed her contract.

But Erin and Minha's contracts expired around June. And it's been 6 years since Hyuna's addition and of course over 6 years since their debut in August. Unless they made Hyemi sign a longer contract for some reason, it is to assume that she renewed her contract when these 3 didn't.

at first I was a little upset because from the teaser, I was expecting the next line following Nayeon would have the same rythm, but as expected they started to mess up all the lines in a weird way.

But I still like the chorus and the line distribution is the fairest among the 3 singles they've released.

Blackpink is going to have their first comeback around the first week of November, so prepare for YG's bullshit about how the won against Twice (after Twice having promos for 2 weeks by that time)

They won't be eligible for a win their first week so depending on how long Twice promote they may not get a chance to beat them.

Unfortunately, this has become the standard with K-pop teasers.
It's really annoying they have basically become just the intros of the MV, that sound very different from the actual song anyway.

Other way around. Blackpink won't be able to win their first week (comeback week they aren't eligible), so if Twice only promote like three weeks or so BP might never beat them. Avoiding the fan wars.

I think this completes the list, Rainbow disbanded. Why didn't you too Secret?

It's sad honestly. I was going to say that I really wasn't sad at all because (of course excluding A) of their common sugary releases, but just thinking about their last 2 songs and Rainbow BLAXX...

The one time I decide to make a thread about a group with a big introduction post and then they just don't get big enough for six years, always staying in the shadow of the bigger groups... :dammit:

I always liked Rainbow (mostly followed Hyunyoung), but even I am surprised it didn't happen sooner. Even 2 or 3 years ago it seemed very likely.

^ I don't know much ChaCha sold when they released it, but that's not what matters if DSP wouldn't know shit about what to do with that pinch of success.

When they released A they did nothing to take advantage on the popularity of the song

ChaCha isn't the worst selling Rainbow release but its still one of their lowest. And they've never had a real hit on Melon if I'm not mistaken. DSP has been done with Rainbow for years, it was just a matter of their contracts running out.

Music (playlist)
  • Ailee - Home (feat. Yoon Mi Rae)
A very heavy hitting trap-ballad hybrid. This a very awesome release by Ailee.
  • ALMENG - Cheers To Me
This duo has been missing for nearly two years after "Phone in Love". The vocal mixing is a little distracting, but the backing track creates a really epic atmosphere.
  • BULL-DOK - Why Not
This is by the so-called hiphop girls (+1) from Produce 101. This sounds like an old-school 4minute or 2NE1 song, which is definitely not a bad thing, so it'd be nice to see a new group fill in that void.
  • Grace - Trick or Treat
A very dirty beat with a catchy repetative chorus. The video isn't as quirky as I'd expect from a Grace music video, but the styling is on point.
  • I.O.I - Very Very Very
Repeatitive lyrics and synths all around. This is a very fun and cute song from JYP, seemingly incorporating concepts from recent releases like Red Velvet's "Russian Roulette" and TWICE's "Cheer Up".
  • Kei (Lovelyz) x The Solutions - Beautiful
A new pop-rock track from the PLAYGRND music series, which promotes collaborations among artists in the music industry.
  • LADIES' CODE - The Rain
This is almost like a continuation of "Galaxy". Very interesting melodies in the chorus and great vocals throughout the entire song.
  • TWICE - TT
Who doesn't like fun dance track inspired by an emoticon? Lots of fan service in this Halloween-themed music video.

Trick and True is a new show where either a magician or scientist does a performance, and a panel of guests argue whether it's a scientific phenomenon or a magic trick/illusion. It's not really a K-pop show, but Red Velvet's Wendy and TWICE's Sana seem to be fixed panelists.

It's such a weird release, from the change in stage name to the janky promotional material. And what a shame they decided to debut her with a dated, generic EDM track rather than power pop or R&B that would better showcase her talent. I would have much rather seen her debut with an English version of "Home" (and she said did record it in English! (@12:23)) but alas.
