Oh! I remember the vinyl but I didn't remember it came out in May (or even in 2016), haha. My bad!

Edit: I made a sorter for this! I only included (most) singles, one play song, and the so far heard Kobushi album songs. It's not a complete list. So use it if you want but don't complain!

I will also only rank the ones that I've heard. That means, no OST songs and no remixes. Also I haven't listened to Kobushi's album songs yet oops. I did like their live performances of This is Unmei though, so I'm including that one.
  • Koi wa Magnet
  • Utakata Saturday Night!
  • Itoshima Distance
  • Ai wa Maru de Seidenki
  • Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin
  •  Mukidashi de Mukiatte
  • Mugen Climax
  • Ora wa Ninkimono
  • This is Unmei (Kobushi 2016 Ver.)
  • Sakura Night Fever
  • Umaku Ienai
  • Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku
  • Boogie Woogie LOVE
  • Ranrarun ~Anata ni Muchuu~
  • Osu! Kobushi Tamashii
  • Karada Dake ga Otona ni Nattan ja nai
  • Sexy Cat no Enzetsu
  • Wasurete Ageru
  • Dou Datte Ii no
  • Naze Hito wa Arasoun Darou?
  • Jinsei wa STEP!
  • Dream Road ~Kokoro ga Odoridashiteru~
  • KEEP ON Joshou Shikou!!
  • Namida no Request
  • Ai no Tame Kyou Made Shinkashite Ningen, Ai no Tame Subete Taikashite Ningen
  • Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi (TYPE B)
  • Next is you!
  • Summer Wind
  • Bacchikoi Seishun!
  • Samba! Kobushi Janeiro
  • Ashita Yarou ga Bakayarou
  • Sou Janai
  • Kedakaku Sakihokore!
  • Koi Nara Tokku ni Hajimatteru
  • Cabbage Hakusho ~Haru-hen~
  • Solatido ~Nee Nee~
  • Rock no Seichi
  • Singing ~Ano Koro no You ni~
  • 17sai
  • Tokyo to Iu Katasumi
  • Seishun Manmannaka! (2nd Take)
  • Hitorijime
  • The Vision
  • Watashi ga Obasan ni Nattemo
I think this is about right. When we go with individual groups it would be:

°C-ute
  • Ai wa Maru de Seidenki
  • Mugen Climax
  • Naze Hito wa Arasoun Darou?
  • Jinsei wa STEP!
  • Summer Wind
  • Singing~Ano Koro no You ni~
I'm a sucker for cute stuff, and Ai wa Maru is pretty cute. While their first single this year is probably some of the best stuff ever released as a single in H!P the hype didn't stay, in my opinion. All three songs are pretty much masterpieces on their own but, well. Mugen Climax is great, probably one of my favourites forever. But Ai wa Maru just had this cute, adorable note to it. I can't remember what Singing sounded like, I just remember the white dresses.

Morning Musume
  • Utakata Saturday Night
  • Mukidashi de Mukiatte
  • Sexy Cat no Enzetsu
  • Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi (TYPE B)
  • Sou Janai
  • Tokyo to Iu Katasumi
  • The Vision
MM manages to get me every now and then, just like USN saved this year for me before we've got to listen to anything from the new single. Sexy Cat is... okay. Probably pretty much mid to lower mid in an overall MM single ranking. Mukidashi, well, I'm eurotrash for eurodance. The rest though... Sou Janai, Tokyo to Iu and The Vision will probably be some of my least favourite MM single songs of all times (just right there with Seishun Kozou). I'm surprised by how much I disliked The Vision, it's just a snore fest and ... not well done.
I do feel bad about Tsumetai's Type B, though. It's just... it doesn't grab me as much as the Type A version. Maybe the additional solo lines don't deliver as well as the duet/group lines. If it was the Type A version it'd top this ranking by a mile.

ANGERME
  • Itoshima Distance
  • Umaku Ienai
  • Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku
  • Wasurete Ageru
  • Ai no Tame Kyou Made Shinkashite Ningen, Ai no Tame Subete Taikashite Ningen
  • Koi Nara Tokku ni Hajimatteru
Compared to last year this one wasn't too great for ANGERME. Itoshima Distance isn't that great of a song, but I think it's very charming. I do jam to Umaku Ienai and TsugiZoku every now and then. The other three, who? I honestly can't remember what Koi Nara sounded like. It's not like the other two are bad but they're not even close to last year's releases.

Juice=Juice
  • Karada Dake ga Otona ni Nattan ja nai
  • Dream Road ~Kokoro ga Odoridashiteru~
  • KEEP ON Joshou Shikou!!
  • Next is you!
  • Ashita Yarou ga Bakayarou
You basically can't go any lower than last year so... this year was... okay? It wasn't the great renaissance that I hoped for (because I actually like J=J quite a bit). I don't remember their digital single at all (lol), so I left it out of the rankings. I like Karada and Dream Road (despite its awkward choreography), but the rest is very, very meh. I do like what they tried with KEEP ON, but it felt so fake I don't even know. It felt so... not Juice=Juice.

Country Girls
  • Koi wa Magnet
  • Boogie Woogie LOVE
  • Ranrarun ~Anata ni Muchuu~
  • Dou Datte Ii no
  • Namida no Request
While I did like the second single, it was okay, it was a big crash from the first one. Pretty much already visible in costumes - I mean, what are these dresses they wear for Dou Datte Ii no.

Kobushi Factory
  • Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin
  • Ora wa Ninkimono
  • This is Unmei (Kobushi 2016 Ver.)
  • Sakura Night Fever
  • Osu! Kobushi Tamashii
  • Bacchikoi Seishun!
  • Samba! Kobushi Janeiro
Kobushi is the same as CG for me. The second single had Ora wa Ninkimono but I do feel that I like it much more than everybody else haha. Other than that, solid year I think. Nothing special, but like it is with sports, the second year is always the hardest.

Tsubaki Factory
  • Kedakaku Sakihokore!
  • Cabbage Hakusho ~Haru-hen~
  • 17sai
  • Seishun Manmannaka! (2nd Take)
  • Hitorijime
  • Watashi ga Obasan ni Nattemo
Tsubaki can't win. Not sure what else to say about that. Cabbage is so high because the original was quite good, and Tsubaki doesn't suck completely at covering it. Hitorijime is so bad I can't even. Like, not the song. The song is okay. But the way they do it... if you already have some of the worst singers of H!P in one group (and no one that is good to balance it out) you don't give them hard songs. They're so stiff while dancing it (and sloppy, I'm looking at you, Niinuma, Tanimoto and Yamagishi) and just... I don't know.
Kedakaku is still the best they could do, Seishun is bad, Watashi ga Obasan's new arrangement is bad, management should feel bad for all the mistakes they made with Tsubaki Factory.

Can't wait for them to actually include the second generation. All three of them showed more character during their presentation than half of the group did in their whole first year.

I used Thea's sorter. It made this a lot easier. Thanks Thea!

100% unsurprised by my number 1 song honestly. I got really addicted to this song... it makes me so happy when I listen to it.

Also I don't know Tsubaki songs very well besides Hitorijime+haven't heard the Kobushi album songs (besides This is Unmei 2016) yet so they just naturally ended up at the bottom. (edited to just put the rest under a spoiler so it's not taking up so much space)

I'm not surprised they're in my top picks, but I was surprised by C-ute this year. They've pumped out some awesome songs. Pretty much expected Kobushi and Angerme to dominate the top spots... And poor Tsubaki, J=J and MM at the bottom lol

Oh, also, Juan, I love your in-depth post! It's been so long since the BBS had someone who really puts forth so much writing in their posts, and I love it.

About Koi wa Magnet, I just loved the overall feel of it. Maybe Country Girls were an odd choice for this kind of song, but it made me appreciate Risa so much more.

I kind of feel this list isn't helpful to Kobushi since their album isn't out yet and I cheated by listening to a few radio rips. Overall I think a few people might change their minds once their album is out. The girls are still very rough in their live performances, while I really disliked Isogaba Maware at first, the Studio version feels like an entirely different song. Give the group another year or two to perfect their live shows and they may very well be one of the greatest groups in H!P history, provided of course no one graduates... (yeah I probably just jinxed it, sorry)

I used Thea's sorter as well. And it feels fairly accurate. I couldn't find a video of Michiko no Uta anywhere, but its Angerme so I figured it would probably sound better than the songs that ranked lower.

I'm just gonna do my top 10. This year wasn't all that great in my opinion so I don't care to list them any further.
The top 4 were hard to put in order since I love them all.

1. Jinsei wa STEP!

Shit, this was difficult -- in a good way --  because I see 2016 as the best year for H!P since 2003.  We really are living through a new Golden Era for the Hello! Project, which, five years ago I never imaged was possible. The beginning can be traced directly to the S/mileage shakeup betting ANGERME, followed in short order by the formation of Kobushi Factory. Both of those groups produced quality material immediately, which deflected attention from the fading flagship. What truly heralded the new era, though, was the emergence of C-ute as a force of nature in 2016. Totally unexpected, they exceeded the expectations of even their most loyal fans, and converted many indifferent observers (like myself) into hard-core followers. I can't recall seeing any group rise so far above their historic norm to close out their career as C-ute has with these two singles. ANGERME continued to grow, despite losing key members, to the point where they are considered the "real" flagship by a lot of H!P fans now. Kobushi Factory shows the potential to someday challenge for that position, despite have a ways to go. Juice=Juice returned with a single stronger than anyone could have expected. Country Girls offered a fun tonic to the mostly-electronic pop that the others groups have adopted as de rigeur. (Although, I'd like to see them ditch the straight-up 50s rehashes for more modern sounding stuff like Koi wa Magnet).

And Buono! returned. I was disappointed in both of their songs when they were released, but upon listening to them again for this list, I discovered I liked them, especially Solatido. I think my desire for a classic Buono! track clouded my mind at the time, and I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't enjoy them in the moment.

About my list: I didn't include any songs from the Kobushi album, because I haven't heard any of them yet, nor did I include any remixes or Tsubaki Factory songs, because I haven't listened to them much. I'd say the top 10 is pretty set-in-stone, but it gets mushy after that. And I can say with confidence that of the 37 songs ranked, I legitimately enjoy the top 30, and I don't hate any of them. Which is crazy, when you think about it.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to not like Ora wa Ninkimono that much.

Hm, you guys are making me curious to hear the Factorys' offerings after all. I didn't listen to anything new for this ranking, so I'll only post the top 10 of my list.

1. Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku - ANGERME

2. Mukidashi de Mukiatte - Morning Musume '16

3. Mugen Climax - C-ute

4. Tokyo to Iu Katasumi - Morning Musume '16

5. Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi - Morning Musume '16

6. Utakata Saturday Night - Morning Musume '16

7. Umaku Ienai - ANGERME

8. Ai no Tame Kyou Made Shinka Shite Kita Ningen, Ai no Tame Subete Taika Shite Kita Ningen - ANGERME

9. Wasurete Ageru - ANGERME

10. Singing ~Ano Koro no You ni~ - C-ute

A strong(er) year for MM than previous ones, but that's not saying much compared to ANGERME who's absolutely dominated this year far and above the other groups. The only reason more of their songs aren't in my top 10 is simply because I could hardly remember them other than the fact that I knew I liked them--MINUS Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku because that song was my jam for a while.

When Kobushi's album drops, I'll give them song attention, but I wasn't optimistic about any of things y'all had been saying about the two Factory's in their respective threads.

Alright, time to do mine as I've sat down with the songs :D, though I'm skipping over OST songs (surprisingly enough most of the OSTs weren't really that great TBH, maybe exception of MODE.

Momusu '16

  1. Mukidashi de Mukiatte
  2. Utakata Saturday Night!
  3. Sexy Cat no Enzetsu
  4. Sou Janai
  5. The Vision
  6. Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi (TYPE B)
  7. Tokyo to Iu Katasumi
  8. Utakata Saturday Night (Kawanabe Hiroshi REMIX)

I'd say Momusu had an OK year, I didn't have too many problems with any of the A-sides + TYPE B.  Still going to miss Zukki a bit and the whole 13th Gen will be KSS will be interesting to watch getting used to some of these dances.  My only disappointment is that we still didn't get "Watashi no Nanni mo Wakacchanai"...like is this the longest we'd had to wait for this one?  Anyways, not a bad year, but not an amazing year.

C-ute

  1. Mugen Climax
  2. Summer Wind
  3. Jinsei wa STEP!
  4. Naze Hito wa Arasoun Darou?
  5. Ai wa Maru de Seidenki
  6. Singing ~Ano Koro no You ni~
  7. Jinsei wa STEP! (Lil'Yukichi Remix feat. Cherry Brown)

For me C-ute was also kind of in the middle of the road this year.  Mugen Climax and Summer Wind slayed me though and are some of the best songs they've got in quite a while so props to that.  Even Jinsei and Naze were also good too.  Though they dropped the ball heavily with that 2nd single.  Seidenki and Singing felt weird?  Like they really didn't belong on the single more or less with Mugen Climax...and the remix was HORRID...like why even...

ANGERME

  1. Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku
  2. Umaku Ienai
  3. Wasurete Ageru
  4. Ai no Tame...
  5. Itoshima Distance
  6. Koi Nara Tokku ni Hajimatteru
  7. Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku (SWG REMIX)

I wonder why groups this year have been so middle for me.  I felt that ANGERMEs 2nd single was all-around great and the placing for those tracks could be rearranged and I'd be fine.  It was Meimi's last single that kind of was a bit out there.  I LOVE Tsugitsugi though, that was just epic, but Itoshima Distance was here and there and Koi Nara felt a bit lazy for a Tsunku track especially if that was Meimi's goodbye song...and yeah bad remix.

Juice=Juice

  1. KEEP ON Joshou Shikou!!
  2. Dream Road ~Kokoro ga Odoridashiteru~
  3. Otona no Jijou
  4. Karada Dake ga Otona ni Nattan ja nai
  5. Next is you!
  6. Ashita Yarou ga Bakayarou

With that tour of theirs, I'm pretty sure they were worn out like crazy!  So happy it's over!  I thought their first single of the year was a bit boring and kind of to-the-books for them (this is including Otona).  Luckily they picked up with their 2nd single although I loathe Ashita Yarou and I can't quite put my foot on why...maybe the disjointed chorus is probably where I check out.  Still KEEP ON and Dream Road were surprisingly fresh for them and I loved it!

Country Girls

  1. Koi wa Magnet
  2. Boogie Woogie LOVE
  3. Namida no Request
  4. Dou Datte Ii no
  5. Ranrarun ~Anata ni Muchuu~
  6. Kiss Yori Saki ni Dekiru Koto

Like others, I'm pretty bummed that Manakan left, but I do love that Funakki managed to put in those lower tones that she sounds so good in into use and not-so-much being squeaky cute (thx Yanamin!).  Magnet and Boogie were awesome songs though Ranrarun was annoying and repetitive to listen to (same with Dou Datte honestly).  Namida no Request stuck out with that nice melodic chord in the intro.  Not much to say about Kiss Yori other than, no wonder why it's left on a Petit Best (just not a good song for them).

Kobushi Factory

  1. Kenmei Blues
  2. Sakura Night Fever
  3. Osu! Kobushi Tamashii
  4. Ora wa Ninkimono
  5. Isogaba Maware
  6. Bacchikoi Seishun!
  7. Zanshin
  8. Kobushi no Hana
  9. TEKI
  10. Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin
  11. Samba! Kobushi Janeiro
  12. GO TO THE TOP!!
  13. Mijiku Hanjuku Torotoro

I'll probably skip up the covers, but those are pretty good, better than some of the cover H!P has done in the past of other H!P songs.  For me, since Kobushi had the largest amount of songs released in 2016, there's a lot here.  Singles-wise, Sakura, Osu!, and Ninkimono were the highlights for me (strange since people seemed to hate 2/3 of them loool).  I don't know why but Chototsu Moushin and Bacchikoi were kind of forgettable to me and Samba! was just strange and unfitting for their first album.  I get that it was for the Olympics but it's for sure a seasonal song and is kind of strange as the only not pop/rock song on the album.

As for the album songs, Kenmei Blues is just epic and Isogaba was getting there too!  Zanshin, Kobushi no Hana, and TEKI were decent (the latter a bit TOO short). Then there's GO TO THE TOP!! and Mijiku Hanjuku Torotoro and both were rather forgettable fluff for the album...

Tsubaki Factory

  1. Kedakaku Sakihokore!
  2. 17sai
  3. Hitorijime
  4. Watashi ga Obasan ni Nattemo
  5. Seishun Manmannaka! (2nd Take)
  6. Cabbage Hakusho ~Haru-hen~

Despite looking like they were the busiest group of the year (2 singles, a mini, appearances in 3 OSTs) and gaining new members, sounds wild!  Anyway, I loved Kedakaku right from the start and surprisingly I might be one of a few that loved the Moritaka covers (even if the EDM was a bit stretched).  Hitorijime was cool too.  Manmannaka! I think didn't need the minute upgrade it got and Cabbage Hakusho is still clunky of a song.

Buono!

  1. Rock no Seichi
  2. Solatido ~Nee Nee~

Honestly, I didn't care for the single anyway...just liked that Rock no Seichi has a nod to "Bravo Bravo" in it.

Anybody feeling like doing a "2016 H!P MVs mm-bbs watching together HAPPENING!! IDOLS ga odoroku no FESTIVAL!!" for an evening during the holidays, like we did with the entire MM singles last year?

I'm not sure how long it'd be, but I imagine around 2 hours.
