This group actually formerly debuted in 2014 under the name MINX.  Although member Siyeon did grab some attention for her powerful vocals and extreme high note, they unfortunately failed to garner much of a following, but they're giving it another go in 2017! New name, two new members, and a uniquely eye catching horror concept paired with a jpop-inspired song!

You can find a rundown of all the members with pictures here.  You can also watch some of my favorite videos from them below!

Quite frankly, I'm more than a little bit desperate for this group to do well as I've been dying for a girl group to do a horror concept for years now.  VIXX made a trend of it for boy groups in 2013 but girl groups have still been limited to the incredibly boring and predictable sexy & cute concepts with little to no variety and I think a girl group finding any success at all in a concept without corny sexy costumes or schoolgirl uniforms could finally make girl groups in Korea interesting again.

They could easily be a flash in the pan like Korea's Babymetal knock-off Pritz (who released two songs and then fell off the radar after getting involved in a Nazism scandal) but I've seen a lot of interest in them and it looks like their company put a lot of money into this re-debut so fingers crossed!  The song kind of combines Korean and Japanese pop sounds in a way that prevents it from being a total knock off like Pritz or other recent (and desperate) attempts to hook Korean otaku on a homegrown girl group.  I really hope they make it because goddammit I am TIRED of pure concepts and sexy office ladies!

I was going to suggest checking out MINX's old live broadcast videos on the Happyface V Live channel, but they seem to have been deleted/hidden. The members are fun together.

I think MINX's problem was that they were too similar to Dal Shabet, and they really didn't have their own concept. Their debut song easily passes as an early Dal Shabet song, and then they went on to actually remake a Dal Shabet B-track!

Dreamcatcher's debut is definitely looking pretty good though, and it's great to see Happyface taking a bit of risk here with a darker concept. (I'm still waiting for gugudan to do something VIXX-esque because they clearly can pull it off.)

They were definitely way too similar to Dal Shabet, which was a questionable move in the first place considering Dal Shabet's success (as much as I like them) has been very limited.  I also feel like it was a terrible and lazy idea to just follow their debut up with a repurposed Dal Shabet track LOL.

Updated the post with their debut music video - it is equal parts spooky and gorgeous!

Oooh, I like Chase Me. This really is a marriage of Kpop (verses) and Jpop (everything else), and it's really well done. Great song, great video.

Their debut performance on Music Bank was really good.  Their vocals are so stable - I know four of them already debuted as MINX but they only had one follow up release before disbanding so they may as well be rookies LOL.  I'm so annoyed the floor dance choreography got banned because it's my favorite part (not to mention boy groups are allowed to literally grab their dicks and hump the stage while a completely non-sexual piece of choreography gets banned because you can see a girl's legs lmao).

Dreamcatcher did a cover of Maroon 5's "Lucky Strike" today at KBS Open Concert. The rock concept works so well for them.

Edit 2017-02-27: They released a studio version too.

It looks like Dreamcatcher is going to make doing rock covers of popular songs a regular thing: Siyeon - Treasure (orig. Bruno Mars).

That's a cool idea for a video, but just 480p is kind of a waste.

Dreamcatcher is still rockin' in their new title track "Fly high". It's not as hard as their previous releases, nearing more toward that J-rock sound, but it's good to see them continue on the path to the dark side.

Chase Me MV

Dreamcatcher - GOOD NIGHT

Well, I just discovered what will be my not one, but two Annual K-pop Songs I Can Stand To Listen for the year 2017. I actually saw them on TV yesterday and thought that for once I could post something new here, but of course you guys had it covered already. =3=

I will definitely be following this group. I hope they won't fizzle out and will stick to this sound and concept, I've been waiting for something like this for a long time.
