Re: Movies
I wrote a blog entry devoted to the Kamen Rider movies that get released in Japan every year (spin-offs of the long-running TV series).
https://briandanacamp.wordpress.com/2018/03/25/kamen-rider-movies-a-47-year-old-superhero-franchise-continues-to-thrive/#more-5499
I hope to see the newest one in a theater when I get to Japan.
I include the one that featured Erina Mano.

Re: Movies
Has anyone heard of a movie documentary called "Geek Girls"?
Here's how it's described on IMDB:
<blockquote class="ipsBlockquote">
When filmmaker Gina Hara sets out to explore the hidden half of nerd culture, she struggles through unexpected resistance. Welcome to the world of cute dresses, professional gamers, fake names and death threats.
</blockquote>
I'm just wondering how it's being received in fan circles. The trailer doesn't give much info. It seems to be mainly about female cosplayers and gamers.

I watched The Last Jedi now that it's finally out in streaming and boy this was the most thoroughly unthrilled and unexcited that so many millions of dollars have ever made me.
Also with the amount of stupid "funny" shit crammed into it Disney managed to make JarJar Binks look like something out of a Bergman film. What a waste.

Exact same. I actually saw it in theaters twice, which is rare for me the last few years.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS.
Rare to see a Hollywood movie with an all-Asian cast. Definitely worth seeing, although it's full of all the cliches of traditional Hollywood romantic melodramas and it seems to revel in its wedding porn and luxury porn.
I wonder what Asian critics think of it.
The breakout star in it, for me, was New York rapper-comedienne Awkwafina, who plays the heroine's college pal whom she reunites with in Singapore and dresses her for the wedding. I'd love to see her star in a series of comedies.
I was pleased that the soundtrack included a lot of Mandarin songs, including by three singers I'm familiar with, Sally Yeh, Teresa Teng, and Grace Chang.

Re: Movies
I just watched Train to Busan with my best friend. It was actually my first zombie movie, and I was worried about it because I tend to feel like I’m in the movies I watch, so scary movies are... well, scary. But it wasn’t too bad and I kinda enjoyed the suspense! Was also pleasantly surprised to see my girl Ahn Sohee in it (even if her character didn’t make it lol)

Re: Movies
I watched Knives Out.
It was crazy seeing familiar spots in the movie. It was filmed near me. If you saw the movie, the building they set on fire was an old RMV that’s been closed for years. I remember theme they were filming that because I thought the building was actually on fire because there were fire trucks everywhere.
Also the car chase is a few towns over in the opposite direction. Which was also funny because I was literally there that afternoon so to see the familiar spots was also fun and interesting.

This is a place where a signature goes. Enjoy some Airi instead.

I finally watched Gran Torino too.aine wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2009 4:34 pmWas A+++ for me, and somehow made me break down and cry like a little girl. :< It's also the grandest crown he could have created to finish his acting career. It's selfishly sad to know he's done acting now, but I really hope he will stick to his promise because Gran Torino will be really hard to top.Gran Torino - It was good. I haven't seen many Clint Eastwood-acted movies and I should fix that. He is a master grumpy old man-ism here. A-
For some reason, your comment stuck with me and because of it I always wanted to watch it too. Memories just work that way sometimes.
I enjoyed it a lot too!

Re: Movies
We went and saw Top Gun Maverick (I'd only seen the original very recently too and loved it) and holy shitballs what a movie. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Fantastic films with just insanely good soundtracks. I'm trying to watch heaps of movies this year, and this would definitely be in the top 3, if not my favourite from the year.
