K-Dramas
Topic's pretty self-explanatory.
I've watched 1.45 K-Dramas:
- Winter Sonata, which I don't remember much of except that it was kinda good but should've ended much earlier than it actually did in its excruciating 22-or-however-many-it-was episode run, and
- 6.25 episodes (out of 14) of a drama called Damo (茶母), a period drama set in the late ~1600s Korea about a young police tea servant / policewoman who's super badass. The lead in this is played by Ha Ji Won, of Wonder Girls' So Hot fame.
I've seen half of it, and I'm completely captivated by it so far. It's stylish, culturally and historically fascinating, and the story's gripping and fantastic. The extra .25 I've watched of it was because I couldn't stop watching it after the cliffhanger at the end of episode 6, even though it was obvious that it would work out in the end.
I don't want to keep yapping about it so as to not spoil it, so here's a trailer showing some of the action.
Any recommendations for favorites, or just mentioning what you're currently watching? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' />

Re: K-Dramas
I've half-heartedly skimmed through my share of K-Dramas. I think my problem is that I always watch romantic dramas, and I have 0 patience for the way those are typically fleshed out. I almost always just skip to the end, which sucks because then I have no real attachment to the characters. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... popper.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':popper:' />
I watched the most of Pasta and My Lovely Sam Soon. I didn't love the characters of the latter series much. I was only in it for the pastry porn.

What
I've had that drama recommended to me in general. Now I really have to watch it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

Re: K-Dramas
Well, I mean, not like people inserting cannolis into themselves. We all know how much you like that. But the lead is a pastry chef so there's a million purdy shots of pastry. Sort of like Pasta has a million shots of delicious-looking noodles.
PS: The whole "Sam Soon is fat" thing really baffled me, too.

I read that as "Pasta and my lovely Sam son" and thought it was about incest at a restaurant.

Travel back in time through the haze of memories that aren't your own

Re: K-Dramas
I've personally been trying to get through Loving You A Thousand Times, a K-drama about some chick who secretly becomes a surrogate mom to make money for her dad who's fallen ill, ends up having the child stolen from her after she's planned to run away with it, and then accidentally marries into the family of the people who have the child. Drama ensues in which, for reasons beyond me, everyone hates her and sees surrogacy as some great shame that my American mind can't fathom. I've been watching it on and off for about two years now if that gives any indication of how much I don't really like it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' /> Just trying to survive until the end since I already wasted my life on 40 of the 55 episodes.
Iljimae is the next one. It's a historical drama (which I'm a sucker for) about the Korean version of Robin Hood, and it's greatly helped by the fact that the lead is Lee Jun Ki of King and the Clown fame. I just have to remember what episode I left off on so I can get back to it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />

Yeah, it baffled me as soon as they started mentioning. It's really disconcerting and not at all true. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' />
(Started watching this now, yay. I like it*. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... joyful.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':joyful:' /> )
*Edit: Except for the fact that I'm going to get sick of this damn Clazziquai song in about 2.3 more episodes. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... joyful.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':joyful:' />

Re: K-Dramas
I liked Pasta a lot XD
Lie to Me is also good, and I just started watching The Greatest Love. But I'm still a beginner.

Re: K-Dramas
IT'S FUNK TIME BUMP BUMP BUMP
Yes, I spent all weekend watching K-Dramas. So here are the ones I'm watching:
Pasta - I cannot stand the female lead character. I'm sticking around in hopes she grows a set. And the way she eats grosses me out. But the rest is okay, I guess. There's really no redeemable characters to me. I'll probably end up jumping to the last two episodes soon.
Flower Boy Ramen Shop - Umm... God this one is embarrassing to watch because all characters involved are such dolts! So I will complain that the lead character (25 y/o) will probably end up with the high schooler (17 y/o) even though the guy her father set up for her is the better choice (and hotter, for that matter). The lead guy is kindaexactly like Domyouji/GooJoonPyo from Boys over Flowers - rich, ignorant of everything in the world that falls in love with the first girl to stand up to him. I must confess this is the first time I've heard the heartbeat skipping described as constipation though. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Not K-Drama, but I can't find our J-Drama thread so...
Galileo - I like Shibasaki Kou and Masaharu Fukuyama, so I like this show. The mysteries range from retarded to lame most of the time, though there's been a couple (out of the 8 I've seen so far) that are good. I like the Fox/Mulder thing they have going on with their relationship. Too bad their supernatural mysteries aren't half as interesting as X-files's worst episodes.
nazotoki wa dinner no ato de or something like that - It's the new drama that stars Sho from Arashi and Kitagawa Keiko (Rei from the Sailor Moon live action). I like Keiko, I really do. But damn it these "mysteries" are so funking retarded it makes Galileo seem like... ugh I can't come up with anything smart. I can't really watch it, so i'll skim through and see what keiko is wearing/looks like because she is gorgeous.
Which brings me to my complaint about the Japanese mystery dramas I watch: it's always one dunce character (either a complete dunce or average intelligence) and one super genius. If the character is a dunce, they will be the ones there just for some stupid reason either because they are the one in position of authority or because they follow the genius like a puppy dog. The genius character will then spend the episode doing whatever and at the end have some sort of epiphany (if the character is average they will the one to inspire it) and spend the last chunk of the episode explaining things step by step like the epilogue to Romeo and Juliet.
And that is why I only watch dramas when I am hit by a certain mood. :|
