I'll be back is absolutely horrendous, and the dance is hilariously bad also. I mean, really? http://i54.tinypic.com/2mqj5nk.gif THIS... FRIGGIN'... DANCE... And they never stop doing it! It's like 90% of the choreography! Even Kara doesn't have choreography quite that stupid. (And yes I'm aware of ...

Re: The New All Purpose SNSD Thread

I think it definitely helps that I got used to the Korean versions of all those songs before hearing the Japanese ones (except Wonder Girls), but I do think they're also just plain better in Korean. Honestly it doesn't sound like Japanese half the time, just a made up language in the Japonic family....

Re: SHINee - Hello

SHINee are really entertaining, very funny on variety shows and such, so I naturally like them. The Lucifer album was really good, I played it a lot, but I guess they don't want to get stuck in that sound too much (they sorta were doing that since Ring Ding Dong iirc). This song isn't really doing i...

Everybody treated Chuck like shit for almost no real reason. But y'know, I played Chuck in Dead Rising 2. And even I felt like he cosmically deserved what he got during the course of the game. The last time this happened (at least successfully) was Koyote I guess? I've always liked this concept, though. Definitely checking this out. However T-ara is certainly one of my least favorite girl groups (and I never heard the other ones), so I don't know if CCM can do a decent job producing it. T...

Re: K-pop "fans" and all that entails

Unless they really blew the marketing on that one (by giving it the same exact name), that's just a compilation album, they're not actually covering the songs. They released that 2 or so years ago in Korea, and the names just show who picked what song. Not to stray from the topic too much, but I can...

That Angel track is pretty cool, usually those drama tracks are just ballads so I was a bit surprised that this was like a midtempo anthem-type song? Cool stuff anyway. The other day I came across this by accident while searching for Heechul stuff: Super Junior - GEE . When I say "Hee", yo...

Re: Can someone prove to me Kpop doesn't suck?

It turns out my theory about girl pop in the 90s vs. now is right: groups like SES and Baby VOX were scouted off the streets and basically given no training before debut, whereas groups nowadays get upwards of 5 years of training. That's why they're vastly superior now. (Objectively speaking, I was ...

I made a "Kpop booster pack" full of relatively recent songs I've heard on TV shows and so on, but never quite listened to enough (and also a few songs I loved but didn't listen to for a while). Some of them grew on me quite a bit. 01. Super Junior H - 요리왕 (Cooking? Cooking!) 02. Kara - Mi...

Re: What are you reading?

PS. One would be careful to note that Japanese Lit is quite different than any Western lit. "Author insert porn" is the cornerstone of high Japanese modern literature (confessions, or I-novels). I've heard this said in defense(?) of Norwegian Wood before, and it's put me off reading any m...

Re: What are you reading?

One of my many objections to Norwegian Wood was definitely that it was incredibly sexist (it is, this is inarguable--whether you mind or not is up to the individual reader). But that was peripheral to the main character just being a giant author insert. It wasn't literature, it wasn't even a novel: ...

I really don't like Murakami. I only read Norwegian Wood to be honest, but that really put me off him as a writer. I don't wanna complain about it too much since people here really like it.
