I saw Green Lantern.
Honestly, I didn't like it. It was so, so poorly edited and paced. It was just a hot choppy mess. I also don't love Ryan Reynolds, so that made it sort of worse.
[/quote]
I saw the trailer and knew once I saw Ryan Reynolds face and crappy green edited cheap-out costume that it was going to be a big bag of fail.
On the flip side, Captain America looks interesting. But I doubt I'll see it in theaters unless it's blow you away awesome.
Hermione and Ron moved to Scotland, had a Baby, and she got to star in THIS movie.
Oh and, I don't know about you but hearing Scottish accents in any Disney movie makes me giggle like an immature little girl.

Re: Movies
Brave looked cool until they revealed that character design. Don't like it at all.
Watched KG (Karate Girl) the other day. Rina Takeda is just the most awesome thing ever. She's super cute, a pretty good singer, and could legitimately beat the crap out of most so-called "mixed martial artists." There's also this amazing 14 year old martial artist that co-stars in it that could pass for Kanon Suzuki's less insane twin.
Two more weeks until Harry Potter and three until Captain America! Can't wait.

Re: Movies
It's a comic-to-movie movie and neither directed by Christopher Nolan nor has Robert Downey Jr. in it, of course it sucks.

Re: Movies
The reason Green Lantern sucked (beyond the makers ignoring many things from the comic and having Ryan Reynolds play himself rather that the stoic womanizer that Hal Jordan really is) was that you can't show us an epic galactic adventure with the badass Green Lantern Corps and its multitude of aliens, and then return to boring ass Earth and fight a guy with a big head. Also, it totally lacked Ch'p, the Green Lantern that is also a squirrel. Fuck that.
The animated movie that came out last month, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights was infinitely more awesome than the movie.

I have to wait a week and a half after the release of the 2nd Potter film to go see it since I'll be stuck in the back woods of Maine all week. So pissed.
Also, Pixar's real-people look like gummy bears and I want to pop their heads off and eat them like candy. I agree with you Al, though the background work looks amazing and... green.

Re: Movies
I watched the japanese movie "Confessions". Kind of a crazy movie where a middle school teacher let 2 of her students think that she gave them AIDS(yes, it's as crazy as it seems).
The 2 kids killed her 4-5 years old daughter (more or less by accident) and she knows it. She then decide to get revenge by letting them think they have AIDS (by poisoning their milk with infected blood!!).
The story goes from there and we follow the life of the 2 students.
Good movie but WAY creepy!!

Re: Movies
Two days ago when I was in bed and about to sleep I saw Dragonball Evolution.
Now, I have to say I think the anime is complete bullshit, but the movie was actually mildly entertaining. Of course, the dialog was often rubbish and the face of the Goku actor was horribly bland and boring, but at least it had some cute girls in it.
I'm also (re)watching all of Kitano Takeshi's movies because I'm writing a paper that includes parts of his movies.

Went to the midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 last night. Unbelievable. Hard to believe it's over. And if Alan Rickman doesn't win all the awards for his performance as Snape in this one, I will sink a ship. OH GOD. It was so heartbreaking.

Re: Movies
Sucker Punch has dethroned Scott Pilgrim as the worst movie I have seen in the past five years. Ugh. I can imagine Synder jerking himself off as he made the film. I have noticed the more a movie tries to pander to the nerd/geek demographic the more I end up hating it.

I didn't like Scott Pilgrim. That's what happens when you want to punch every character in a movie square in the jaw.

This.
When did it become good storytelling to have your main characters be dicks and unlikeable? OOH THIS IS EDGY REALISTIC STUFF HERE, A SLACKER JERK THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND. It had good special effects (when I didn't feel like it was jerking itself off with retro nods to video gaming) and I liked most of the actors (except Michael Cera; a wet paper bag could act better) but I hated the characters, hated the plot, and I especially hated the ending. I don't care how much shit he went through and I don't care how "relatable" the Scott Pilgrim character is to all the mouthbreathing socially inept internet dwelling dweebs, the fact that he shit on Knives who worshiped the ground he walked on for a standoffish, dare I say bitchy girl who didn't really have any likeable traits was enough to put a foul taste in my mouth for the entire thing. The comic aside, the movie did it mostly wrong. I gave it a B for effort, but a D- for its execution.
In other news, I watched Labyrinth for the first time. It wasn't quite as Cheesy 80s as I thought it was going to be, and I only laughed once at David Bowie's random crooning (and distracting crotch). Otherwise enjoyable, definitely would have been a solid watch for me as a kid.
edit: I still miss the old blackout spoiler code, this is hurting my mild OCD for post formatting. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Re: Movies
True Grit was not the movie I expected it to be, despiting knowing it was not a "typical Coen-movie". I also think the ending was way too short and abrupt.
It definitely had some great moments however.
I have to rewatch it in German some day, because Bridges was often extremely hard to understand (and a few other characters too from time to time)...
EDIT:
The girl did some really great acting.
2.EDIT:
Source Code on the other hand was better than I expected and I really looked forward to that one just as much.
Except for the "human" CGi, which was not very convincing.

Snaaaaaaape!!!! *sobs* DAMN YOU J.K ROWLING! DAMN YOU TO HADES! (At least I have my fanfic...)
So uhm, someone want to tell me what happened to Wormtail? Seriously? Where did he go? Having read the books I know what happens, but like... they just sort of left that part out.
So yeah, just finally saw Harry Potter and I wanted to punch the lady that sat behind us SO BAD! Considering when the film came out I didn't think there would be a lot of people in the theater, I was wrong. And I've never had someone so annoying in my whole life sitting RIGHT behind me. I don't think my annoyed way of moving around EVERYTIME she spoke was enough to stop her from asking questions and making comments THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE FILM!!!!! And she wasn't quiet about it either. I thought maybe the people she was with would shut her up. In the beginning they tried I think but after awhile it was near impossible even for them. OMG WHAT'S GOING ON? WHO IS HE? OH A DRAGON!!! *GASP* OH IS THAT DUMBLEDORE? (No it's his brother!) I HAVE TO PEE. (Sweet mercy she's gone, I hope she drowns in the toilet. Damn she's back.) HE'S GOING TO KILL THE SNAKE!!! (This was said of Harry as he was fighting Voldermort.) IS HARRY DEAD!? OHOOHOHO~ NEVILE KILLED THE SNAKE! AH 19 YEARS LATER (Wow she can read...)

I saw American Psycho, after reading the book, which is the most shocking and horrific book I have ever read. I was scared that the film would be unbearable, but it actually injected a sense of humour that the book just couldn't quite achieve. I liked it. =D

Technically Dracula was the first to sexy them up, but I prefer my vampires as bloodsucking monstrosities like in Brian Lumly's Necroscope series. I seem to recall 30 Days of Night having pretty decent vampires.

Technically the Lost Boys would factor into the fall too <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I liked the balance of sexy beast and monster. I would consider Ann Rice the vampires of the 90s up to Twilight because I don't remember any other vampires being in vogue. Anddddd I hate Lestat. I accuse of Meyer of falling in love with Sparkle Douche but Rice did it too. I remember choosing her for my senior essay because I knew I could easily write 50 pages of rant. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Interview wasn't that bad though, she just turned to shit after that.
I watched a bunch of movies these past couple of days... mostly documentaries and horror. The most interesting one was about origami. What a mere sheet of paper can be folded into is amazing.

Re: Movies
Apparently I am the only one watching movies here. I've watched a ton since my last post. But my current obsession is...Donnie Yen. Again. I think I just go back and forth between the martial arts superstars like a horrid groupie. He is pure grace in his fight scenes. Ah, it's like watching the ballet version of asskicking.
This weekend I watched Ip Man 2 (or, Donnie Yen beats up imperialist british assholes) and some other movie I forgot the title (ehehe...) but I dubbed it "Donnie Yen beats up Japanese assholes 2" because like Ip Man it's a period piece where he beats up Japanese jerkfaces Whatever the plot, I love the fight scenes. But Donnie Yen gets points because his movies usually have better plots/acting than the others. And his fight choreography...superb!
And also...
I really really really HATE when I watch an american film and there's product placement everywhere. The effect is especially jarring when going from foreign film to domestic. I though I, Robot was bad (though the movie was absolute crap too), sheet, that was just the beginning. I wanted to see Moneyball, but I heard that Pepsi and Sony have copious PP too and that sort of thing takes me out of a film like bad acting. Ugh.
I also wanted the Sharkboy's film to hit 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. 3%? Curse you critics! I don't want to see any more of his constipated face in my movie trailers! Same goes for Sparklebutt and his fugly mug. Damn teenagers. Back in my day, our actors were hot and talented!*
*actually I did not like Leo until he was older but whatever, he was still hotter than those fug twilight dudes and I don't remember any other big actor obsessions because the in thing was boybands lulz

Great horror/comedy that turns stereotypes around with non-evil hillbilly main characters that aren't morons. Also, Alan Tudyk, who is always awesome.

I am way late seeing this, but I had a very brief Anne Rice phase as a teenager and Anne absolutely killed it with her bull. I didn't like Lestat either, and by the time I had gone through several of her books I found that Interview and Queen of the Damned were the only two I remotely enjoyed.
I also made the mistake of reading Blackwood Farm. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/sick.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Why yes, I'd like to pay 30 dollars to hear you outline how a personality-free young man had a sexual encounter with the spirit of his twin brother who died as an infant and then fell in love with a girl whose goal it was to sleep with all the men in her family despite sex making her, you know, die. Whatever other incest-y goodness you can come up with is great, too, just keep it coming.
Just, why, Anne Rice. Why.
I apologize for this rant. I am going to attempt to go on-topic.
MOVIES.
I want to see the Russian film Ostrov. I need to get around to it. And I still haven't seen the latest Harry Potter. I am a movie failure.
The last thing I saw was Red, and honestly that's not even something I'd spend time to review.
Do you know what the last movie was that I saw and really enjoyed? Harvey. I am a classy broad. And Jimmy Stewart can be really attractive. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (It's worth noting that I say this with a note of surprise, because at other times he's very not attractive. Who are you, J-Stew?)

Would Interview with a Vampire be the 90s version? Or the fall of Vampires into sexy beast category?

Jimmy Stewart at his BEST.
Always has sad memories for me, my father was a huge Western fan and he had terminal cancer, I watched this on TV as a teenager and told him all about it as he was too sick to see it, he died a couple of weeks later.
