What Al said, it's not because of no Hello! Morning as they have the stream show and H!P time and making ofs etc.

^Ustream is not the same as variety though, they don't have to act as different characters or do skits, or play games,or have batsu games with funny reactions...there's just so much more to variety imo.

Man, this thread has depressed me...

I'm realizing what has happened since I've been away. Good thing I stopped keeping up after "Sexy Boy" came out. I will keep my pleasant memories of everything else before then. Sad to learn there is no more Hello Morning as well... That was a great show and it did help them to develop personalities.

The auditions and people leaving are a fact of life with morning musume. I've grown to accept it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'm excited for the auditions! I hope the influx of new personalities means the current 4 won't be complacent like the past gens and we'll get interesting battles for airtime!

Nothing to be depressed about, Morning Musume has had FAR FAR better times after sexy boy than they ever had before it, but hey opinions ftw right?

If you don't want to be a part of the community and you have no interest in the group..... seriously....

Can Miyamoto Karin save Morning Musume?

That seems to be the majority opinion after the S/Mileage auditions -- that she belongs in Momusu.

Many seem to think she's a more well-rounded talent than Sayashi Riho. Vocally, that's probably true. She also has much more personality. She's also younger than Riho -- will turn 13 this December.

Karin Singing:

Karin Dancing:

Vocally, I could imagine Karin replacing Ai and Riho replacing Reina. Mizuki plays Eri's role. Kanon/Eripon probably in the background, although Kanon's voice could improve.

Save Morning Musume in what way? This is a topic that's come up often. I don't think any number of Rihos or Karins are ever going to put them back in the spotlight. I think the most we can hope for is more members like Sayumi who are lucky enough to go on TV a lot and hopefully promote the group a bit while they're there.

Karin IS cute, though, and as far as I'm concerned you can never have too many cute members.

Miyamoto Karin reminds me of just a better version of Sayashi Riho (not that this is a bad thing, but I don't know what about her would "save" Morning Musume.)

Well, I mean "save" Morning Musume from its slow, steady decline in sales over the past 8 (10?) or so years.

I think the only major exception to the decline was in 2009, when Emo-Musume was hitting it's peak.

When Ai leaves, it wouldn't surprise me if sales plunge even further.

Need major young talent to stop that from happening. And more importantly, Tsunku needs to come up with a new sound.

I don't think talent can save sales. Just good wota bait, catchy songs, and a better marketing plan. I don't think the wota care much if anyone can sing or dance well. And even then, I don't think they'll ever be huge sellers anymore. But if they could keep up the 40-50k range, that would be good.

I'm kind of wondering how many copies this next single will sell, it being Ai's last and all. Will all of her hardcore fans go out and buy 20 copies (there's someone over at H!O who's already bought a tooooon <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />) for the special occasion?

^ Not me, but as some other members this board would say " <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /lmfao.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lmfao:' /> <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /lmfao.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lmfao:' /> "

MM is not going to miraculously "saved" by new talent.

It's been discussed a lot on this board already.

I'm too lazy to say all the reasons why though <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... smooch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='=3=' />

Sorry to disagree with the conventional wisdom around here. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

But talent does make a big difference IMHO. Of course, by talent, i really mean a combination of qualities -- looks, charisma, performance ability -- that makes someone into a star.

It's the difference between a Riho and an Aika. If you have 48 Aikas in your group, it doesn't matter how good the song and the marketing is.

Momusu's decline can be traced to the lack of new talent. From 2003-2010, the only net new member was Aika. There's your problem right there.

I don't know about that. I don't want Saya to kill me because I know she likes them a lot, but since you mentioned 48 girls, we could always use the AKB48 example. And they're not exactly a group of girls with a lot of looks (although this one is very much a matter of personal preference. But in my opinion, not too many of them are very pretty), charisma, or performance ability. They're just a bunch of girls that it looks like someone picked up off the street and threw in a theater and they're huge.

5th gen were the start of the fall of Morning Musume as far as I'm concerned. They feel like a huge filler generation. But I think new management came around in 2002, and that could have played a huge part as well.

And to keep it on a slightly more H!P note, has anyone heard anything about the auditions? I was hoping maybe they would've eliminated enough girls to show us at least a little clip or something.

Actually, Momusu's decline can be traced to the lack of panty shots and nude photobooks.

I'm being serious about this. Even if you hate them, you have to admit that AKB48 does a great job of selling themselves to wota.

Because what self-respecting man doesn't want the boobs of their favourite singer as the wrist guard for their mousepad? (I know those weren't official merch but still)

Plus look at all the deals you can get with AKB singles. Different songs with each version, different tickets to different raffles. Akimoto is pretty smart when it comes to marketing.

At this point, it's not even the girls so much as the names "Morning Musume" and "Hello! Project" that keep some people away.

And the fact they receive 0 promotion and barely show up on TV, casual people aren't going to watch shows like H!P Time. I wouldn't even watch it on TV (because it shows too late and the 2nd time it broadcasts, even though it's a Saturday morning, I'm in school), and I don't even think it's broadcasted in Miyazaki anyways. So more like 'can't' I guess, but there's always YT.

Imo Momusu's decline can be tracked to all the original members leaving. Even if the 8th gen had been like 9th gen, they would have still continued to drop. A hardcore Nacchi fan might not be so inclined to follow the group as much when she leaves. Also, things get old. and MM has been around for 12 years now. You can't expect them to last forever.

If UFA wants MM to sell more, than they need to push them more. They just aren't appealing to casual fans, and casual fans imo, are the most important fans.

No matter how bright it shines, no ones going to notice a star if it's not in the sky.

(Bad analogy that doesn't really work I know, but you get my point).

Kills. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Nah I don't care if you don't like AKB. Everyone's got their own tastes.

But like you said this is all just your opinion. I think AKB has a lot of pretty girls. But one of AKB's appeal points is having "regular girls" which makes them much more easy to relate to. Especially since people like different types of people, so with the variety that they have in looks and personalities, there's a higher chance you will find someone you really like. But there are a lot of girls who do have charisma, performance ability, and what not. It just depends on who you look at. Miichan and Myao are really good at variety and comedy, Acchan pushes herself harder than any idol I know, I could go on and on, but I'll stop at 2.

From an outsider's perspective, it's easy to write them off as "just some big idol group of random girls" but for the fans we see so much more than that.

You could have the most angelic voice in the world, but if you don't market it, it isn't worth shit.

They need to do more performances. One or two shows per single isn't going to cut it. How many performances does AKB do per single? Atleast six?

I just don't think that philosophy works with everyone. Aika was just a colossal misfire -- she's a hard worker and a remarkably decent person (by all accounts), but in the end, she has very little appeal. H!P could spent millions promoting her and it would make little difference. Same thing with the Pandas -- the wotas just didn't care for them.

Promotion is important, but the product matters too.

Because I know I will jump in and defend them for the most part.

That's why I said who the management can sell. If a girl is not selling well, then they eventually stop pushing her.

Which is why Aika is always in the back of MM singles.

I think we should stop now before this turns into another topic.

And @Anderei: They haven't said when the new girls will be announced, but I expect it to be during their fall tour.

Because I know I will jump in and defend them for the most part.

No one on this board said anything bad about AKB in this thread. No one has also said anything bad about AKB recently either. Fans of H!P cannot like other idols groups, how silly.
