MANPOWER is one of my freaking favorite MM songs. Terrible shame if it's hated.



But hey, I'm kinda happy Kimi Sae sucks so much. It makes Brainstorming look much better by comparison.

Let me just say that I didn't mean that you should lower your expectations to like the song. I meant if you don't like it, just accept that its not a good song in you opinion, and move on instead of complaining about it. I liked this song instantly, but if I hadn't I'd just accept it as a failed attempt at a song and move on. (I should really be more clear with the meaning of my words next time.)

I didn't particularly get it on my first listen, but because it's Morning Musume and I want to like their music, I decided to keep giving it repeated listens to see if I'd learn to enjoy it. That was deliberate at least for the first few years of the group. Tsunku didn't want them to get instructions (or something like that) during the cover shoots to make it more natural.

Well it didn't work. The thing is, it's actually very difficult to replicate "natural" and that's what magazines and photographers spend tons of time trying to do. I mean, if he wants to show us the realness of these girls being bored, tired, and uncomfortable at a photoshoot... success! But I imagine what they really wanted was for the girls to look like they were actually experiencing whatever emotion the shoot called for. No one is ever going to look honestly happy, honestly sexy, or honestly cool while standing under hot lights in heels for hours possibly early in the AM or late at night.

I don't know about anyone else but I've always thought photo shoot photos kinda suck, but the photos of them just hanging around back stage, eating together or having a chat whatever are awesome, they really give you a sense of the person.



I don't have the time to find it now, but there was a Eripon photo on Gaki's blog recently, you could see the kinda awkward shy but adorable type of person Erina really is from that shot.



Having said that, sometimes I think they just put all the photos on the floor after the session, throw a coin in the air and wherever it lands they use that photo, give it to a monkey to Photoshop and use it.

I always could get a general sense of Erina, Kudu and Suzuki's personalities from group shots in regards to the younger members. I do think overall the newer gens need more direction in the modeling department. I think the group shot for One.Two. Three and Wakutaka Chance were great. The expressions are so-so brainstorming. I like Braninstorming for the dance and costumes(cute skirt shorts), it syncs in more with the song than Kimi sae ireba nani iranai. Both dances are cool in their own ways. I can honestly say I don't have a #1 but I don't like both equally either. I like each song individually for it's strength and weaknesses. The two thousand people on the dance floor line, so very random. All those poor people...suffocating <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />



I don't really care for the yellow flapper dresses. I think they were chosen for how they flutter when they turn around. It makes me think about how TMS got shafted and didn't get a proper video or it's own costume and when we get another double A-side we do get two costumes but one cool one and one blah one... <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... adwall.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':headwall:' />

+ I think they recycled the fingerless gloves for Help Me!! and Brainstorming.

As for the auto-tune and ornamentation...I think there will be less (hopefully) in Reina's solo song and the B-side(s).

I love the beat, every time the instrumental plays without them singing. I think how this could make a good edm song with a bit of tuning. >_<

I fucking hated "Do It! Now" when it first came out, and it wasn't until hearing the Pucchi Best 3" remix of it a shitload of times that I finally went back and listened to the original again. It's one of my all time favorite MM songs now.

I've grown to like Kimi Sae after repeated listens. The chorus keeps repeating in my head for some reason.



Still, I think it's by far the weakest of Tsunku's post-Pyoko singles. I'm just glad we have Brainstorming as an alternative.

My first impressions (only one listen!) of "Kimi Sae Ireba nani mo Iranai": love, love, LOVE the intro. It's a legit club arrangement, and it's what many of their past singles have hinted at without have the balls to go for. Fucking strong. The verse is a bit of a letdown, but I can see how it might grow on one with repeated exposure. It's not boring, just kind of an emotional fall-off from the H.A.M. intro. The chorus is the real weak point for me. The bold arrangement is completely wasted on this H!P-paint-by-numbers chord progression. Too many major chords and too much of a departure from the rest of the song. This chorus should be a release from the tension built up by the preceding parts, but it just feels like it belongs in another song (kind of like the chorus in Girls Generation's "I got A Boy").



So that's my opinion on it, but I think I'll listen to it a shitload more times just to be sure.



EDIT: I really don't like where the vocals sit in this mix. They're too hot and to far up front. They need to pull back on the volume and add a touch more reverb to get them back into the overall mix.

This! So much! I couldn't really get into the rest of the song because the vocal did the live up to the bad ass intro, after that actually the vocals were kinda grating. They messed up what could have been a good song by over synthesizing the girls voices and copy/pasting in a typical pop song chorus. Thanks goodness brainstorming is amazinggg.
