[2017.02.08] Country Girls 5th Single - Good Boy Bad Girl / Peanut Butter Jelly Love

Announced at their Christmas FC event, their next single comes out in February. They will be previewing both songs before the end of the year on their radio show.


Good Boy Bad Girl is a "cool" song and Peanut Butter Jelly Love is a "retro" song.

So they're keeping the retro style? I like it, but I've read several complaints about it. Well.

Looking forward to their "cool" song. So far the only ones in their discography I'd consider "cool" were Boogie Woogie (to a degree) and Koi wa Magnet, and they happen to be my favourites.

I'm nitpicky and I know "nuts" is just typical Japanese interpretation but... if the song is called "Peanut Butter Jelly Love" please sing "peanut" and not "peanuts". (This is more directed towards recording staff, though.)

I'm not entirely sure why it's this way, but the other biggest offender of "automatic plural" in Japanese is フルーツ/furuutsu/fruit. Like you'd think "fruit? oh, furuuto!" but hell no. If you even type in フルート, if you have it enabled, Microsoft's IME katakana-to-english dictionary will tell you it's "flute."
 
I think it's probably a way to distinguish separate words. Like most people would think cat would be カット/katto, but that's "cut", while cat is キャット/kyatto.
 
Actually, thinking in spoken Japanese, the "tsu" at the end wouldn't be overtly pronounced, right? The ending "to" of furuuto would be more subdued, too, but an ending 'tsu" is even more soft.
 
So my TL;DR is thinking that rather than being automatically plural, the "tsu" thing works for both singular AND plural, perhaps for true plural, the "tsu" is more emphasized in normal speech.

I think all PBJL covers are great. The colours are smoothing, the girls are pretty, and I just love that little PBJ sandwich on the RB cover.
 
The GBBG covers are good as well, but as always with "cool" songs the girls try to look edgy and it's rather hilarious haha. Funny to see the bikes again (after Boogie Woogie Love).
 
Personal favourite is RB, but as said, all of the PBJL covers are nice.

I'm not a fan of any of the "Bad Girl" covers, mainly because I don't think the girls can pull off the tough bitch persona they're going for. I like all of the PBJ♡ covers, especially Reg B, followed by Lim B and D.
