I actually agree. While she makes for a great model I'd like to see her work more on her singing.

The best singer is Takechan, and she's already on thin ice. They need to add a singer if anyone.

I really like Moe, but her singing and dancing kind of just always seems at the same level. Not bad! It’s good, but there’s not the same passion when watching other girls.

Haga Akane's first photobook announced, here's the youtube video about it: https://youtu.be/gBubMt64oHI

What a surprise. She's constantly very low on the popularity ranks yet she gets one before Miki. I'm not complaining, though.

In this day and age where UF has their own publishing house, it’s more down to the girls themselves who want to release one more than forcing them to release one.

It's a two-way street. UF would have to believe a particular idol is capable of moving a minimum number of books for it to be profitable.

And that's why I'm surprised they're giving here one before Miki. But maybe Miki simply doesn't want one.

I have a hard time believing any of these idols have control of what they release.

There's definitely been a shift in gravure-related work. In the earlier days everybody had to participate in the swimsuit shoots, but now it's always the same girls who (presumably) elect to do that kind of work.

I think it was a few years ago when there was a summer-themed magazine shoot for the whole group, and there was a clear divide of who fell where.

I watched a translated video recently of some MM members talking about what they will or will not do in photobook shoots, so it seems like they do have some measure of control over these things.

EDIT: it was a radio show with Masaki and Yokoyama. Yoko said she was cool with bikini photos, and Maa was like, fuck that noise.

I think Buono means they have a hard time believing girls get to decide that they’re gonna release a photobook. Obviously they can always say no to putting certain things on.

Maybe Masaki is a special case because they have to manage her moods, but they would have made her start releasing photobooks a lot earlier if that's the case. They're leaving a lot of money on the table there.

I don't know. I don't think they'd force a photobook on someone. Hence why Dawa didn't have one between 2012 and 2019 - and the last one being a visual one.

I feel that photo books probably aren’t a huge money maker anyway. It’s been a long time since one in H!P really sold that many copies. Like I’m sure they’re not a net loss but I doubt it’s big profit.

Depends on how much they charge. What's the going rate for an idol photo book?

I doubt they force PBs, but there's no doubt some pressure to conform (or fear that it may hinder your career not to give this material to your fans).  I used to really like H!P photobooks - they had some great photographs and concepts in them.  But these days, the standard H!P photobook is basic gravure trash so I have no interest anymore, especially when so many of the girls are underage.

The previews from Haga's photobook made me very uncomfortable - yes, I've been into jpop long enough to know this is par for the course, but it'll never stop grossing me out.  War flashbacks to 6th gen's unbelievably pervtastic debut PB, or Risako's PB releases from her youth, made up mostly of shots that look like they should be on a government website somewhere.  My lack of interest in or approval of  pre-teen and teen girls sending bedroom eyes for an audience of adult men will never budge.

I'm really glad Maachan has managed to carve out a niche where she remains popular without doing anything she doesn't want to do.  I do remember Yossie never wanted to do photobooks either, and the singular Yossie photobook holds zero bikini pics of any kind in it's pages.

Photobooks are usually around $30+ a pop.  I imagine they make a neat profit off of them when it comes to the girls like Mizuki.  If it weren't worth the money, they wouldn't be flying to different countries to shoot them.

Every single one I looked at on CD Japan is about 25 USD. Average photobook sells about 1-1.5k copies (or less, lots of them don’t rank so who knows).

Hello! Project Hina Fes ~Hisaichi Fukko Shien Tohoku wo Genki ni!~ has been announced. The concerts will take place from March 20 to March 22 at Meiji Shrine Hall - yes, that means three days instead of the usual two this year. Two shows a day, makes a total of six shows.

Also new this year: Every group will get their own premium show.
<ul class="bbc">[*]March 20: Tsubaki Factory and Morning Musume '20
[*]March 21: BEYOOOOONDS and Juice=Juice
[*]March 22: Kobushi Factory and ANGERME
[/list]Unfortunately, Morning Musume will only perform on March 20 - their regular concert schedule clashes with the event.* Hello Pro Kenshuusei and the Kenshuusei Unit perform in their place (therefore not performing on March 20).

*For everyone who's interested: Morning Musume will perform their usual spring tour concerts on March 21 and 22 at NHK Osaka Hall.

You might wonder if H!P planned another deal outside of Japan because some members have hinted at this... and you're right! It's just not the Americas or Europe or any place you might have thought of.

It's Vladivostok ("east coast" Russia).

I bet she rolled her ankle when dancing and though she’d be fine. It’s always because of a rolled ankle. With the shoes they wear It’s a wonder it doesn’t happen more often.
