Honoka Kobayashi performing Chopin's Scherzo No. 1 in B Minor, Op. 20

Goddamn, she's good. This is a fairly expressive performance, too, and not just a straight reading.

Yeah, Honoka is amazing. Just watching Beyooooonds' performances and MVs you know that she plays the piano but this is definitely next level.
It's pretty obvious that she spends a lot of her free time training.

Every time I've listened to the Petit Best 16 album, I've found track 16 to be a beautiful song, so unlike the other songs on the album that it must have been from a musical or special production of some kind. I've never been aware of who was singing or what the origin of the song was. I mean, who in H!P hits those high notes so beautifully? Well, I finally checked and the song is "Triangle Alpha," by Morning Musume 15, and is from their stage musical, "Triangle." I then found a video clip of this song as performed in the stage production. And it's Riho hitting those high notes! I watched the clip. The singing quality is much better, of course, on the studio recording heard on Petit Best 16. She sounds great. Why didn't she sing like this more often? She does not hit those high notes in the stage clip.

Also, is the cast album for the musical worth getting?

Here's a link to the clip:

They’re cleaned up in the studio version. She probably couldn’t consistently hit the notes in a live setting. She never hit the 123 high notes either.

TRIANGLE was a good play but a shit musical, honestly. The songs were all really short and uninteresting, except maybe 4 of them. The only way to acquire the full cast recording is to buy the DVD, anyway. But even if you were fine with that, I still wouldn't recommend it. However, if you're digging around musical songs, I strongly recommend "Suki Dakara..." from "Zoku 11nin Iru! Higashi no Chihei, Nishi no Towa", West version. It's easily the best thing Sakura ever recorded.

I was just curious about how many girls we're actually losing, so I went and looked...

From March 2019->approx April 2020, H!P will lose a total of 14 girls, 2 groups (CG and Kobushi.)

This puts 2019 at a total loss of 7 girls, with 2020 already at 7 of already known grads (future grads in the year obv not included.) The last closest year in terms of numbers was Jan->Dec 2017 where we lost 11 girls (from C-ute, to Momoko, to Kobushi blowout, Aiai loss and Kudo.) Runner-up is 2015 (9 grads). Most years were about 4-5 grads.

2020, if we have even two more grads, will be equivalent to 2015. 4 more total grads and we're at 2017 level.

I know it’s easy to block from your mind, it was a horrible loss, but 2009 and the break up and removal of Elder Club from H!P was a very big deal. Just as sad as any graduations. While the majority stayed in UF, they just didn’t have the same exposure as they did within H!P.

Re: Hello!Spam :: 2020 ~Anniversary Mode~

The ANGERME exodus had me thinking. We're pretty much safe from graduations from all major groups until fall tours (up to December) this year. Summer is out due to Olympics and I doubt Up Front would "allow" anyone to squeeze between Murotan, Kobushi and Funakki.
Of course, if it was something urgent like health issues or a really important education offer would make them rethink this, but for everything else they could just let the members tag along like before.

My prediction on H!P graduations up to the near future:

Morning Musume

Someone has to go this year, but they will go in December at the fall tour final. I've always said it would be Ikuta but for some reason now I feel like Ayumi might be next. If Akane doesn't graduate for school - which would mean inbetween the already announced graduations - she's gonna stay. However, I'd expect a mass exodus following in 2021.
Not only will both 9th and 10th gen hit their 10th year in the group, Mizuki will also turn 25 (albeit rather late in the year). Ikuta hinted so much at management talking to her about graduation that she probably won't see the year 2022 as a member of Morning Musume. Adding a vocally decent generation with 15th gen also puts Sakura on a test imo. Therefore I'd say:

Fall 2020: Ishida Ayumi
Spring 2021: Ikuta Erina
Fall 2021: Fukumura Mizuki

ANGERME
Hopefully the two big losses of Funakki and Murotan will be ANGERME's last this year. It will be interesting to see what 2021 brings. While ANGERME continuously added members left and right, up until last year they weren't so big on the graduating game. Maro in 2015, Meimi in 2016, Maho in 2017, and then it started with Dawa in 2019. Before Maro the last graduation was Yuuka's in 2011. A lot depends on the member's wishes. Will Take stay and rebuild the group? She's quite young at 22 years. How long will Kawamuu hold on? Will Moe and Risako drift more into fashion and leave idol business?
It's also interesting to see how different ANGERME is age-wise from Morning Musume. MM has 7 members that are over 20, Morito following soon in February, let's count her in, then we have 8/14 members over 20. ANGERME, after their announced graduations, will only have 3/8 members over the age of 20. It's more apparent when you look at girls currently in school and graduated members: MM's graduated-to-schoolgirl rate is 10:4 (and 3 of the 4 are the newly joined 15th gen), while ANGERME's rate currently (before graduations) is 4:6 - Rikako is still in high school. My take:

March'20: Murota Mizuki
somewhat later'20: Funaki Musubu
After that, ANGERME's mass exodus of old members as well as continuously adding new members saves them from losing anyone else in 2020 and 2021.

Juice=Juice
If we're unlucky then Juice will get in a situation similar to Anju's after Dawa's graduation. While I think that Tomoko won't graduate before fall this year: after that the group could be in wild fall. All of 1st gen as well as Manaka could graduate. Age wise, Sayuki is older than Take and Manaka is only one month younger than her. Karin and Aarii aren't far off with one year. Looking at the girls' ambitions we see both Tomoko and Karin with solo projects - always a bit of a red flag in H!P.
Interestingly enough, neither Sayuki nor Aarii have been involved in any solo stuff lately. Sayuki's biggest asset is her singing, but outside of Juice or H!P concert shuffles she hasn't gotten a chance to show it. Maybe it's because she's still weirdly unpopular among Japanese wota, but to me it seems like she could easily just dip into Up Front territory of background work, like doing demo tapes and stuff. Would be a shame, though. I bet Aarii will leave showbusiness - her biggest solo part was always gravure and she's become rather quiet about that (compared to her Young Gangan run in 2016). She could also go the Yurina way and become a full fashion model. But what does that mean for the group?

Fall 2020: Kanazawa Tomoko
Spring 2021: Miyamoto Karin
Summer 2021: Inaba Manaka
Fall 2021: Uemura Akari

By then the group will have added 2-4 younger girls that are, hopefully, as good at singing as Riai and Yume. Sayuki will train them a bit more before graduating and passing the baton on to Ruru.

Tsubaki Factory
Tsubaki saw very well what sudden graduations could do to a group with Kobushi. They're also more of a team than anyone else right now - individually the members aren't that great, but their power lies in their teamwork. Losing one girl would probably get them into trouble. I think this might have also been the reason why they went on semi-hiatus when Kiki wasn't there - performing old things was okay, but promoting new stuff could only work with the full cast.
I wondered when Kisora would call it quits because she's basically always in the back. I don't think she's unhappy, though. And considering the things mentioned above, I think Tsubaki will try to stay as 9 for as long as possible.
That also means that Kiki will have to pull through.

Reina is sooo cute whenever she gets to talk about trains.... So when she gets to be the ambassador for a new train, even better :)

You could tell how happily overwhelmed she was. Reina's really grown on me over the past few months. I mean she really got a whole group dedicated to her--I guess the # in CHICA#TETSU looks like some sort of signage that's on the front of trains. Then both of CHICA#TETSU's songs are actually about trains/stations. This may be the first time a group is so closely related to the interest of a single member, lol

I remember seeing this and being bothered lol. I expected Kurumi in the bridge, but I also thought people would get bumped up by a line to keep it in order of seniority. So her getting Yamakki's line was strange to me. Also, Takechan sharing a lead role with Mizuki just doesn't seem right haha.

Maybe they figure just fill it for this ver, then when Ayapan is gone they'll change it where Yamagishi and Ichioka go before Kurumi.

Karin will graduate sometime before this year's summer. This leaves only Morning Musume and Tsubaki Factory (and Beyooooonds, but they're still new) as groups who won't lose a member in the first half of this year (or else they probably would have announced it by now - but considering how packed everything is with graduations I doubt there will be any announcements soon).

Tsubaki is also pretty fresh compared to Morning Musume's oldest members - Fukumura Mizuki and Ikuta Erina. Considering that Mizuki was an Egg, too... I decided to make a list of all members that Mizuki has said goodbye to as a member (or trainee) of Hello! Project.

Fukumura Mizuki was introduced as a new member of the H!P Eggs on June 22, 2008.

As an Egg, she’s seen the following members leave:

2008.06.29 v-u-den

2009.03.31 Elder Club

2009.06.11 Arihara Kanna

2009.10.25 Umeda Erika

2009.10.30 Inaba Atsuko

2009.12.06 Kusumi Koharu

2010.12.15 Kamei Eri, Junjun, Linlin

Fukumura Mizuki joined Morning Musume on January 2, 2011. Since then, she has seen the following members leave:

2011.08.27 Ogawa Saki
2011.09.09 Kosuga Fuyuka

2011.09.30 Takahashi Ai

2011.12.31 Maeda Yuuka

2012.05.18 Niigaki Risa, Mitsui Aika

2013.02.23 Mano Erina

2013.05.21 Tanaka Reina
2013.07.05 Otsuka Aina

2014.11.26 Michishige Sayumi

2015.03.03 Shimizu Saki, Tokunaga Chinami, Sudo Maasa, Natsuyaki Miyabi, Kumai Yurina, Sugaya Risako
2015.06.12 Shimamura Uta

2015.11.29 Fukuda Kanon

2015.12.31 Sayashi Riho
2016.05.30 Tamura Meimi

2016.05.31 Suzuki Kanon
2016.08.04 Inaba Manaka

2017.06.12 Yajima Maimi, Nakajima Saki, Suzuki Airi, Okai Chisato, Hagiwara Mai

2017.06.30 Tsugunaga Momoko
2017.07.06 Fujii Rio

2017.09.06 Ogawa Rena

2017.12.06 Taguchi Natsumi

2017.12.11 Kudo Haruka

2017.12.31 Aikawa Maho

2018.06.20 Ogata Haruna

2018.12.16 Iikubo Haruna

2019.03.11 Yanagawa Nanami

2019.06.17 Miyazaki Yuka

2019.06.18 Wada Ayaka
2019.09.25 Katsuta Rina

2019.12.10 Nakanishi Kana

2019.12.26 Yamaki Risa, Ozeki Mai

2020.03.22 Murota Mizuki

2020.03.30 Hirose Ayaka, Nomura Minami, Hamaura Ayano, Wada Sakurako

2020 Funaki Musubu, Miyamoto Karin

Members that joined (as full members) after Mizuki became a full H!P member are in red.
*Manaka came back.

That's a total of 49 members since she became a member of MM (same for Ikuta). 25 of them joined after her.
She saw 4 groups disband/go on hiatus (Berryz Koubou, °C-ute, Country Girls, Kobushi Factory), 5 if you count Buono!.
