Re: Hello!News Network :: 2018 Anniversary Edition
After the voting (done by the members) the winners are:
[spoilerbox]
5. Kiyono Momohime
3. Funaki Musubu
3. Yamazaki Mei
2. Ishida Ayumi
1. Kawamura Ayano

I'm really glad they actually chose girls who tried out something. Singing is cool and all, but when you're not the best singer you just fall flat. For a TV performance you need charisma, and all top 5 were really good.
By the way, there was also a prize: The winner will produce a show to air in September.

Re: Hello!News Network :: 2018 Anniversary Edition
Imma be an ass and double post because I've got another big post incoming. I've ranked the performances according to my opinion:
[spoilerbox]Hirai Miyo - Come with me
I guess it’s half-cheating having the original vocal track on while dancing. But I take it. Especially since when she starts singing on her own she nails it. But - no offense to all the other dancers in H!P - she’s probably the best dancer H!P ever had. There’s this smoothness, everything looks so cool and light when she performances. The fact that her singing is absolutely decent is just the cherry on top. I’m kind of surprised that she didn’t make the top 5, but as said before lol, she only sings for 1/3rd of this song lol
Dambara Ruru - Love Take It All
I don’t know what it is with Ruru. She always looks like she was born to be on stage. She looks like she’s enjoying herself so much. Compared to Sakura and Sayuki (the three of them are imo H!P’s top singers) she puts so much energy and feeling in the performance that she has to be higher in the ranking than the other two.
Kamikokuryo Moe - Romantic Ukare Mode
Moe is like the other side of the medal to Ruru. Ruru is powerful and can be sulky and sexy, while Moe is pure and bright. When she did LOVE Namida Iro some time ago I was already blown away, Romantic Ukare Mode fits her just as well.
Funaki Musubu - GIRL ZONE
Not saying that she sang better than all of those that I put below her, but she showed much more charisma than them. The rap really sells it.
Kawamura Ayano - Sunao ni Amaete
Kawamuu is a perfect example how you can come far even with weak vocals. Make the song your own. Kawamuu is mostly cute, but she managed to be sexy with this song, and that tapping? Unique. But it fits surprisingly well.
Yamazaki Mei - Chance!
Give Mei an anime tie-in. She’s a better singer than Koharu, but probably as charismatic. Gotta be honest, Mei definitely grew on me. She might even be my favourite 15th gen member by now. Maybe I’m just drawn to people who give a feeling of loving being on stage. Mei is just like that. I remember the Ningen Kankei no way way performance where she was all smiles. I can’t wait for 15th gen to get bigger parts in the group.
Ishida Ayumi - Wasurete Ageru
This is the best I’ve ever heard Ayumi sing. But what really sells it are her facial expressions and the whole acting thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if she followed Maimi in doing musicals and small acting roles.
Yamazaki Yuhane - Kiseki no Kaori Dance
Someone called her the reincarnation of Matsuura Aya. That might be a bit too much, but she certainly has character and decent singing ability. I think she needs to up it once more to be like Ayaya. Then again they just don’t come like this anymore.
Satou Masaki - dearest.
Masaki is not perfect, but damn, that’s probably the best I’ve heard from her. Especially when that chorus hits. You realize that she really loves music and can actually utilize it. The small cracks were unfortunate, but well. It’s not like she’s supposed to be the songstress.
Kanazawa Tomoko - Omoi Afurete
Songs like these fit Kanatomo really well. I know she’s really good at ballads in general but once again I was reminded why I love her singing so much.
Oda Sakura - Hikkosenai Kimochi
Well… Sakura is good. Ayaya’s songs fit her well, especially her ballads. She gets the feeling down better than Sayuki. But maybe that’s the bad part if you’re already one of the best singers - it’s all so normal. Nothing special about the performance. Great though? Absolutely.
What I did realize though is that I definitely prefer her singing deep parts. Damn, made me feel something. Her arm was a bit hectic though.
Takeuchi Akari - Suna wo Kamu You ni...NAMIDA
Most people forget Takechan when talking about good singers. Not gonna lie, me too. But this just shows how important her performance was. It was such a great one. She might not be in my personal top 3 H!P singers, but she’s pretty close.
Kiyono Momohime - What is LOVE?
You know it starts off with “ah yeah, Momohime will certainly grow into one of H!P’s top stars in a few years” - because she is already really good for her age. And then she uses that talk box. That’s such a cool move. It’s unique. When you’re already on TV for once you gotta make the best of it, and she did: Good singing and an extra.
Shimakura Rika - Naseba Naru
Why did Rika end up higher than some of the songstresses? Because 1. she surprised me and 2. she did well. She sang well and captured the feeling of the song. Was it the most exciting performance? Nah. But it was great.
Takagi Sayuki - Daite yo! PLEASE GO ON
Sayuki sang better than Masaki, for sure. But I feel like she missed some energy or general coolness. The feeling of the song wasn’t there. You have to be the bad bitch for this song, Sayuki was the talented idol singer singing this song, not the bad bitch.
Uemura Akari - Ai wa Maru de Seidenki
Huh. I know that Uemuu got better at singing, but I didn’t know she got that good. And she even says it’s not in her best range, that choosing it was a challenge to herself. I mean you hear it, but she still sounds pretty good. Those are the nice surprises you only hear in solo performances. One more reason why they should keep that idea up.
Ono Mizuho - Aenai Nagai Nichiyoubi
Mizuho touches me in a way Ruru does, just with weaker vocals. She just wants to be up there on that stage and her face really tells it.
Nishida Shiori - Onegai Miwaku no Target
Hot take: Shiori is Beyooooonds’ top singer. I know, Yuhane, but Shiori. Both are great. It’s good that a group like Beyooooonds got both.
Akiyama Mao - Midnight Temptation
Probably the best singer among the dancers, restricted by her dress (why couldn’t they let the girls choose their own outfits? Hell.). During the corona home videos I already realized how good of a dancer Mao is. Makes me fear that she goes the Funakki/Riho way and disappears in a year to study dancing.
Kitagawa Rio - Kokuhaku no Funsui Hiroba
You know what? I think her voice is quite similar to Moe’s. Very idol-ly. I really hope they build her up as one of MM’s next lead singers. She already has better expressions than 12ki and she is the best singer since Sakura.
Ogata Risa - Last Kiss
Risa once again shows why she’s Tsubaki’s unofficial ace (back off Kiki). Last Kiss fits her really well. She’s got a bit of that oldschool vibe going.
Nonaka Miki - Aishite Aishite Ato Ippun
That’s probably as good as Miki gets. Her singing was good, her dancing was fierce, and I was really surprised by how good her facial expressions were. But in the end she is simply not top tier. Her voice lacks depth and there’s this tiredness that she simply can’t get off her face.
Ise Layla - Fuwari, Koi Dokei
She’d fit really well into Tsubaki, and I don’t mean it as an insult. She seems to be elegant, is a good dancer and her voice is soft and blends well. Did she do better than Mizuki or Manaka? No. But it’s the element of surprise - coming from a group like Anju, who’s in your face, to do a softer song.
Eguchi Saya - Sekaiichi HAPPY na Onna no Ko
Happy, fun, enjoyable. Saya is one of those that always fall flat, especially since the rest of Beyooooonds is such a crazy bunch. But she’s definitely a decent idol on her own.
Fukumura Mizuki - I WISH
The idea with the story was super cute. But I can’t get myself to like watching Mizuki perform anymore.
Kobayashi Honoka - Hajimete no Keiken
I love her piano play. She’s another one of those cute idols that don’t need to try hard to be likeable. Mano songs seem to fit her well, since she has a nice soft voice like her.
Sasaki Rikako - Kimagure Princess
I know everybody went wild about this, and yeah Rikako’s dancing and expressions are amazing in this. Her vocals fall flat though… fair, it’s probably one of the wildest dances this evening, but it was a bit disappointing.
Inaba Manaka - KoiING
Well, finally a performance to underline that Manakan is actually a decent singer. That’s hard to show in a group like Juice. Manakan is one of those who are naturally and effortlessly idols, and it shows in this performance.
Kudo Yume - SEXY BOY ~Soyokaze ni Yorisotte~
Was it “good”? Not really, her singing fell flat and her movements were too hectic. But you know what? Screw that. It was whacky! It was fun! People will remember her. When you’re on TV you need to stand out. (I’m probably a bit unfair in judging Riko’s cringey sexyness - Yume is just as cringey. But at least it’s fun and not try-hard.)
Miyamoto Karin - Gakkyou Iinchou
While streaming it live someone said “Karin seems like she’s done with it”. I wouldn’t go that far, but that performance really was a bit forgettable. Karin is still a great singer of course, but eh. Probably the most boring song this evening, but performed really well.
Matsunaga Riai - Tomodachi wa Tomodachi Nanda!
She sang well, but where was the energy? Give me energy! Think of your friends, loved ones, everybody when performing this song!
Kaga Kaede - Silver no Udedokei
Kaedii is good, and her facial expressions here were great. I love how much emotion she put into this. But overall this performance was a bit boring, especially since the rap was missing.
Kishimoto Yumeno - First Kiss
Personally I’ve never been a fan of this song so, dang. The interesting part was that kids around 10 could do it so well, so singing it well when you’re 20 and okay at singing isn’t that much of a surprise anymore. Of course Kishimon does well but eh.
Makino Maria - Happy Summer Wedding
I know Maria’s love for Morning Musume is real but - like with Mizuki - I would’ve loved her to perform a non-MM song. Especially I WISH and HSW which are pretty much overdone… she’s still cute and does quite well, but eh.
Maeda Kokoro - Yokohama Shinkirou
I know they wanted to make her super cool with this song and it fits her quite well, but it’s just not powerful enough. Still good performance.
Yokoyama Reina- Tsukiatteru no ni Kataomoi
Reina is by far not better in terms of performance than those below her in this ranking but she’s just so much fun to watch! I couldn’t catch much of her little story in between but it was a cute gimmick nevertheless.
Asakura Kiki - Lady Panther
Kiki is actually one of the weaker singers in Tsubaki, but she’s quite decent here. But to be fair, Lady Panther is really a fun song. That’s what I mean that even your song choice can influence enjoyment. If you do mediocre on a boring song, meh. If you do mediocre on a fun song, better.
Inoue Rei - Maji Natsu Sugiru
I think the beatbox in the beginning is hers, prerecorded..? Well, Rei is a good singer, but not an amazing one. She falls flat several times, and the song is not good enough to make up for it.
Takase Kurumi - Summer Wind
The song was just a number too big too for her. I always thought Kurumi was one of the better singers, but her limits were very obvious here.
Kasahara Momona - Cinderella\Complex
Her expressions and dancing are good, her emotions as well, but the depth falls flat. To be fair, eh, when you got the original with girls like Ai and Reina as comparison that’s not really fair, is it?
Onoda Saori - Ne~e?
See Kisora down there. I don’t get why potentially good singers need to pick a song that makes them sound cute, but bad. Sure the selfie was a funny idea but way too long.
Yamagishi Riko - Aitai Aitai Aitai na
I know this performance got lots of people talk about her. Good idea to focus on her dancing, good idea to make it sexy, to give people something to talk about.
Personally I thought it was super cringey. Her bad vocals, the completely unfitting dress that made her shaking her butt look like a granny with diapers… and all of it a bit try-hard. A bit too stripperiffic.
Morito Chisaki - Anata Nashi de wa Ikite Yukenai
I was starting to warm up to her… and then this performance came. Thing is, both her singing and her dancing were okay - but I feel both was half-assed. Better had done something like Riko and focused on dancing alone. The dance break was okay, but I swear if she lifts that right arm one more time I might snap.
Ikuta Erina - Koi wo Shichaimashita!
Maybe they should play audio over Ikuta’s performances. Her challenge was fun, the way she presented herself on stage was fun, she’s just one of the worst singers in all of H!P. Good thing that she added the challenge or else she would’ve been lower in this list.
Niinuma Kisora - Uchouten LOVE
The idea with the uchiwa was clever. However, considering she’s one of the better (!) singers in Tsubaki I would have prefered her to try to sing well, not overly cute. She’s still good but it was a bit of a throwaway performance.
Okamura Minami - Itooshikutte Gomen ne
I love Miimi but this performance showed me that she could never become a solo performance idol lol. Her smile is great and she’s really cute, but that’s it performance wise. Her Beyooooonds school thing was amazing, if anything she should try variety.
Okamura Homare - aMa no Jaku
Geez, she’s cute. Can’t say much more about the performance, her voice fits old S/mileage songs really well. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of old S/mileage lol.
Ichioka Reina - Elegant Girl
I don’t know. Reina is not a bad singer in general, but her voice is just not good. It’s super boring. Too bad. I really wouldn’t replay that performance.
Haga Akane - Aa Susukino
Ouch, that hurts. I love Akane, but I think her performance was among the weakest. The song doesn’t fit her, she sounds weak. But at least she looks really good.
Hashisako Rin - Cabbage Hakusho
Rin is cute, and that shows in this performance. It also shows how much she’s grown since Massara Blue Jeans. (Still, it’s a bit boring and, eh, her singing is not that great. And her bouncing is driving me crazy.)
Tanimoto Ami - Kaite wa Keshite no "I Love You"
Ami is more of a visual than anything else. Therefore her performance also falls pretty flat, but she’s quite cute at it.
Satoyoshi Utano - Majokko Megu-chan
Actually, same as Ikuta. She’s fun to watch, and even though her dance is not as good at Miyo’s (and a bit too hectic) she’s good. But her voice...[/spoilerbox]
I'm okay with the official results, though. I really feared Masaki or Karin would win, but the girls preferred originality.

Re: Hello!News Network :: 2018 Anniversary Edition
Miyo would have been my favorite had she stuck to singing. Her dancing was uninspired, while her singing was far above anyone else that night. Ruru was my overall favorite.

There was a while back during Platinum Era where Risa and Takahashi were starting to look alike. Eri too for a bit. Now Mizuki and Erina are doing the same thing.
So are Ayumi and Masaki and the only think stopping Sakura is her lack of bangs.
Someone needs a image change. A drastic one.

Apparently, it was UFP that decided the girls' song.
Now all the tweets are gone, I'm going to search all this after work.

I think that's talking about the ballads tour.

Woah, the whole account is gone. Either they decided that was easier than to delete the vids individually or they got bad mail from the tv channel. Welp.
On H!P's summer tour, eh. I wonder how attached the girls get to their songs, seeing that Miimi didn't even know hers lol.

I'm all in for a comeback of Ai's platinum blonde shortcut. And go full out and give it to Mizuki. Nobody would see that coming.
(Out of the oldest five she had the least variety in hairstyle. Actually... she's always had the same one, right? Just went brown at some point.)

I haven’t seen the whole Solo Feat yet but I’ve watched some clips on Facebook. Yamagishi Riko’s chair dance was so painfully awkward for so many reasons, I couldn’t even finish the video. ????????
My girl Miki was absolutely glowing though. And Miyo surprised me with her dance skills AND vocals. Honestly I feel like she’s too good for Beyonds.

Sakura and Sayuki both covered MISIA's Aitakute Ima.
Sakura: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOLMFcxMvjE

I wonder if this is a teaser for their cover summer concerts.

To the surprise of no one, MM's spring tour has been fully cancelled.
Hope we get to see the rest of the footage from the rehearsal filming.

Re: Hello!News Network :: 2018 Anniversary Edition
<div>I expected Sayubee to do better than Sakura on this because her voice is just naturally more suited to MISIA songs, but I wasn't expecting her to be this much better. Towards the end of Sakura's version, I was reminded of something I wrote about Reina Tanaka in my MM vocalist rankings from several years ago: "I have been impressed with the talent of her voice many times, but I can't remember a single time I've ever been moved by it." I don't know if I would say that I've never been moved by Sakura's singing, but I wasn't on this. To be fair, her voice isn't built for this kind song, but I was mostly bored by her performance. Sayuki, on the other hand, murdered this even beyond my expectations. Smooth and sultry on the quiet passages, easy power on the choruses, and genuine emotion throughout. I really loved it.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>It's cool that they let both of them actually ad lib on the end, rather than "ad lib" a pre-written melody. Sakura's high note was very nice, and the highlight of her performance for me.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Also, here's a YT link to the combined version of the entire song: <a>https://www.youtube....h?v=cIdjdCwbO9c</a></div>

Holy shit, Sayuki was AMAZING. Talk about knocking it out of the park! This is by far my favorite performance from her, hands down. The emotion, passion, everything she put into this, you can just feel the love and respect for the song and its meaning she has. It was perfect for her voice as well.
I’m super excited to see how the solos will pan out now.

I'm very interested in who's getting these songs:
<div>Kabutomushi / aiko</div>
<div>First Love / Utada Hikaru</div>
<div>Planetarium / Otsuka Ai</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Especially "Kabutomushi," which is one of the very first JPop songs that hooked me back in the day.</div>

Planetarium (Otsuka Ai) / Onoda Saori
First Love (Utada Hikaru) / No one
Well this is disappointing, lol! I like Kiki, and she's one of TF's better singers (which isn't saying much, although Kishimoto has become pretty good, and is one of the more engaging and passionate H!P singers) but I don't think she has the strength or subtlety to do "Kabutomushi" justice. This goes double for Onada with "Planitarium." I'd be down with Kishimon singing either of these, but there are a dozen other girls I'd put in front of her.
I guess my next project is to go through the singers I really like, and search out the originals of the songs they'll be singing.

Re: Hello!News Network :: 2018 Anniversary Edition
I was SO looking forward to Yuki no Hana. Feel very let down that Takechan got it. She's a fine singer, but I don't like her voice. I also don't think she has the subtlety for this one. I would have loved for it to go to Tomoko or Karin, maybe.
Re: Hello!News Network :: 2018 Anniversary Edition
<div>So I went through and picked out the 20 singers I'm most interested in and checked out all of the original versions of the songs they'll be performing. I pretty much nailed it when I said "So basically 'Folk Songs On Tour' then?," but I'm down with this.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I know they're pushing this as a "cover ballads" tour, but many of the songs are better described as mid-tempo pop or rock, and most seem to be pretty safe selections for the singers. I don't necessarily mean "boring," because many of them are beautiful, just safe. There are a few I expect to really shine, though, as their songs either stand out form the crowd, or just fit the singer so perfectly (or both!) The arrangements are going to play a huge part in how well some of these go.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The performances I'm most excited for are Miyo and Kishimon, who both got songs that fit their emotive tendencies perfectly. Mao and Homare also seem to be set up pretty well for success.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The girls I'm kind of worried about are Layla, who did a solid-but-not-amazing performance of "Fuwari, Koi Dokei" at SOLO FES, and now she's gonna do Ayaka's "Mikazuki"? Okay, Jan. "Mononoke Hime" is going to push Sakura to her limits, and likely beyond them. The arrangement here is more critical for Sakura than anyone else. I hope they drop the key a few steps, because even if she can hit those hight notes, I'd be shocked if she can do so for an entire song. And lastly, Mei. "Tegami" just seems so far beyond her tool-kit that it almost feels like she's being punished, lol! (Who did our little panda piss off? ) I mean, I suppose they could do a cuter arrangement of it, but that would make the entire song pointless. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>On the positive side, all three of these girls have an opportunity surprise us and blow us away. Most of the rest have the opportunity to meet expectations or fail. Momohime, Kokoro, and Musubu kind of got shafted in that respect, and I was hoping those three in particular would have gotten more interesting material that would allow them to really show their stuff. Personally, I'd rather be in Layla's, Sakura's and Mei's position.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I'll probably go through the rest of the songs to see what pitfalls await all of the other girls.</div>

I listened to Sakura's rendition just once but I've repeated Sayuki's several times. it is baffling the talent and passion of some of these girls that goes underutilized. Everything about this pandemic sucks but it has been interesting to see H!P as a result be forced to get a lot more creative and experimental with their releases and talents recently

Someone in the comments said Sakura sings like she’s talking to a lover she broke up with, while Sayuki sing like she’s talking to a lover who died.
I enjoyed Sakura’s singing more, technically it sounded like she had more control over her voice and notes. I was surprised she did whistle tones!
But I enjoyed Sayuki’s performance more. The notes where her voice was a little off conveyed her emotions and she was able to tell such a heart breaking story using her voice. I think that’s what makes her rendition more powerful to listen to, the raw emotion she has.
Both did a beautiful job!

About those H!P solo performance concerts...
Two girls had the honor to perform their solos live at NHK World/J-Melo.
Kiyono Momohime - Kosui: https://twitter.com/davidguuuuuy/status/1292780042427097088
Miyamoto Karin - Olivia no Kiki nagara: https://twitter.com/davidguuuuuy/status/1292792597417615360
To be honest I just wanted to say that Kiyono surprised me. She sounded awesome.
Karin could have easily become an anisong-singer. I think she's still missing something (depth, maybe?) to really make it as a soloist, but she's definitely a good singer.

Kiyono's one of the best singers in H!P, and she's still only 15. She's gonna be a monster in a couple of years.

I feel like she sometimes gets left behind when you think of "good singers in BEYOOOOONDS/HP" because:
1. BEYOOOOONDS has quite a few good singers, and pretty much only one bad singer
2. Management hasn't given her any big, stand-out, solo lines in title tracks
3. Wota often talk about other members instead of her (at least in comments and such)
We can't forget this was the little 12 year old girl who won Best Performance (tied) in her first Shindan test for singing Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi. She had her awesome solo cover of Moonlight Night from Hinafest last year... She made that song her own. Even her cover of What is Love back a few months ago from the solo fest was just so cool.
I was worried she'd follow a similar fate to Hama-chan, where she's this popular KSS that just doesn't end up delivering as much as you expected... But I think as long as she continues to be given moments to shine, she'll surprise fans every time.
PS here's Ai Sono Touch My Heart from her birthday event as well

This moment from a KSS performance of Say! Hello! from 2016 is still one of my favorite Momohime lines. The way she just slams out that line, especially that last note...... worthy of an Italian chef kiss, lol.
