Finished Bomberman Land Touch 2 after months of searching for that missing earth peice. Turns out that my suspicions were right and that there are two story branches in the game. No thank you.

Also, Tetris on my mobile, starting Fallout 3 again on my dad's compy, and Wii Fit Plus.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I suggested to strawberry that we should make it invite-only so not just anybody can join.

But I guess it's ok if you just send her (she's the admin right now) a mail with your nick.

Since I got my PS3, I've been buying lots of... used PS2 games. They are so cheap and delicious.

So I'm at various stages of completion in Final Fantasy X-2, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Persona 4, and King of Fighters XI.

But they must all go on hold now, 'cause I just got Bayonetta, which is spleen-blindingly excellent. It is all the best parts of every action/beat-em-up game that came before, except easier to control, harder to master, and more saturated with joy (sometimes literally).

Just found Mirror's Edge in the bargain bin at Best Buy... tons of fun so far.

Still haven't finished Twilight Princess... without a Wiimote for the time being. But I'm in the last dungeon!

Left it at a friends house, who lives kinda far away... I'll probably end up borrowing one from another friend next time I see him. I could really use a second one, though.

So Mirror's Edge is enjoyable, except for slightly broken technical issues, like jumping through poles that I should be grabbing, etc. I also feel like having bad guys shooting at you is kinda lame... I'd much rather just run through a map at blazing speeds without having to worry about enemies. At least Time Trial takes them away.

When they removed backwards compatibility, it ruined a lot of what made me want a PS3. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd still love to have one eventually. But for me personally, 'tis not worthwhile. Especially with how broke I am. I've already got a ton of 360 games that I never even opened (and all of which were bought, new, for ten bucks or less a pop). So it's not like I'm looking for more to play right now, anyhow.

And you can forget about a good chunk of Lucasarts games. I have only my direct experience with Battlefront II crashing routinely after about 5 minutes of gameplay, but I'm assuming all Lucasarts games are this way. See what you did, George? You blackened your entire line with just one title! Hmpf!

Also, I have to add that Bayonetta really doesn't seem to have much going for it, other than a lead character with a wildly swingin' ass. Pretty sure that if you take that out of the game, you're left with Devil May Cry 4 & 1/2.

Also also, if you're still playing Street Fighter & decide to pick up one of the Madcatz sticks, they won't work with ANY PS2 game. It's a software issue that's actually more Sony's fault than anything. Madcatz still makes questionable products (my Standard Fightstick lost the use of a button after 2 weeks & I'm fucking careful with my controllers) but in this specific case they're not to blame. Oddly, the stick works fine with PS1 games, so go buy SFA2 on the PSN Store, huzzah!

Finally also, I'm playing with the S.H.Figuarts Kamen Rider Decade figure I just ordered from ejapantoys. I AM PLAYING WITH IT IN MY MIND. Once I actually receive the figure, I will christen him Kamen Rider Pink Spidey and we will play whatever $10 game I've bought on PSN that week. There, full circle and back on topic, huzzah! Again!

I don't know why certain people keep saying this. It's not just "DMC4 with tits." The game's atmosphere is so much more immersive and beautiful. The gameplay is improved, the acting and humor is great, and the music rocks the casbah. It's an improvement over the DMC games in just about every way. Among the folks who own it, and have played a decent amount of the game, the vast majority seem to agree. I've only been exposed to maybe five hours of the game, maybe a bit more (thanks to seeing it at a couple of friends' houses). But I really want to own the game, and eventually will... once it's obtainable for cheap enough. Can't borrow Steve's copy, because he got the Japanese version haha.

I'd much rather play them on the PC via emulator than on the PS3 (thus I don't see a reason to have the old model, considering the new one is quite better), PCSX2 runs already most games very good.

Obviously playing Bayonetta. It's easily the best game of the past ten years, absolutely no contest. The last decade has seen a lot of games that tried to be art, or a movie, or a comic book--this is a game that tries to be a game, and glorifies everything about gaming. The sheer absurdity of the game is fantastic, and the gameplay is practically flawless. I guess it remains to be seen if the games industry will pick up on the game and start a trend towards games that are actually fun again, but at least this is a good start to the decade (yes I realize the game came out in 2009 in Japan).

Also, the developer blog is a fantastic read.

I've also picked up Darksiders, which (from the hour or two I managed to squeeze in between Bayonetta sessions) is pretty solid. It's basically an okay game, delivered with the kind of flourish that it feels like a great game. Again, it feels less like it's trying to apologize for being a game than most games from the past ten or so years, and that's a good direction.

I think this is almost word-for-word the description I gave it when I first posted about it here in this thread, hahaha. If not, its pretty damn close. One thing is, I'm glad to see a lot of reviewers around the internet are giving it the fantastic reviews it deserves, but unfortunately, that's still not going to win over American audiences who would rather just shoot terrorists, play football, or play World of Warcraft, so I fear a bit for its American sales. The game did gangbusters in Japan, though, so hopefully it got what it deserved there before it reached our filthy audiences.

Let's not get into the whole, "America sucks. America is a joke," nonsense. It has nothing to do with America. The problem you speak of... is with the modern casual gamers. The people who, unfortunately, make up a majority of the gaming market. It's exactly the same way in Japan. The casual gamers in Japan are mostly into gimmick games for DS and Wii. And even a bunch of the hardcore Japanese players are kinda irritating, many of them being unwavering Sony fanboys. The truly-respectable hardcore gamers, even in Japan, are sadly a very rare commodity.

I'm not sure wether "did gangbusters" means it sold good or bad, but I guess it's positive.

I don't think the genre is popular anymore and never really was in the west. You can play only very few of this 3rd-person hack'n'slash until you get bored. I do agree that Bayonetta looks over the top (which always is a good thing) and like a funny game, but I can't see myself playing it, because I even got bored with God of War 2, the game many people seem to think is the prime example of this genre. I will however try out the demo when I get a PS3.

Anyway, I finally finished some of the games I bough

Defense Grid is probably the hardest Tower Defense game ever. Especially if you want to complete the levels with special conditions.

Plants vs. Zombies is probably the easiest Tower Defense game ever. The puzzle and minigames are challenging though, which is definitely a good thing.

Deus Ex GOTY Edition. PC GOTY All years.

Trine ! What wonderful 2D gameplay. The only (and really annoying) problem I have is with the controls that the mapped the UP button together with JUMP button, which obviously is a horribly horribly horribly stupid idea, that's also what makes this game harder than it is (though it isn't easy). But other than that, it's really fun to just swing around with the thief and alter the characters on the fly.

I also started playing Day of Defeat - Source, Evil Genius, Indigo Prophecy, SW Kotor, and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic.

Now I see King's Bounty gold for 11€ and I'm intrigued to buy it too...

You can do pretty well for a little while by button-mashing, but it gets too hard for that very quickly (in Normal mode, at least). Unlike most games of this genre, the difficulty spike never made me want to give up though.

Yes I did. It is worth finding an older model, I think, but mine cost almost as much the new ones, which was disappointing.

I've played through Bayonetta a few times now and while it's hella fun, it's not the second coming of action games to me. For pure play control I still say the Ninja Gaiden games have it beat, but as a total package, Bayonetta is quality. I see a lot of people dismissing it after an hour or two of play, but until you play the game all the way through the epilogue you see the whole insane scope of it. My only two major complaints seem to be common, first that the still frame cut scenes are pretty damn tedious, and second, the arcade-style scenes, while fun, go on far too long. Hell, you could clear the entire arcade version of Hang-On in the time it takes to play the homage stage in Bayonetta.

Also, got Ghostbusters for 10 bucks and it's well worth it for that price.

Yes, it does mean good. And God of War is a horrible example of 3rd person action games in this context. God of War games are boring because they are MADE boring. The design is drab and takes itself too seriously where Bayonetta has so much style, fun, and enthusiasm oozing from it's seams and makes for an experience that is a universe apart from God of War. Also though, unfortunately the PS3 version is factually (yes, Sega admitted it is) broken. The game barely runs at over 30 FPS where the 360 version is at a constant 60. Textures are lower res and load times are 3 times as long with no install option on PS3.

That could be a lot of it. The demo, while it was extremely fun, was not very telling of the overall game experience. The demo pretty much runs through the insanity you'd find in a single specialty boss fight of sorts. They wanted to pack that kind of nonstop-action into there, once again, to try and catch the attention of as many people as possible. If they went too much into the more-intricate gameplay, humor, and difficulty that can be found in the game... they would risk scaring away a lot of the casual gamers.

There are only 2 things I can think of that I can complain about with Bayonetta:

1) Screen tearing oh my God. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' /> Fingers crossed there will be a patch for that. It's in Darksiders too, do console people just not care about this? I'd gladly take a FPS dip over screen tearing any day.

2) If you pick "Quit" on the game over screen, it sends you back to the stage select screen, which is fine but it also deletes your checkpoint, so you have to start the level over from scratch . I didn't realize that at the time, and lost a good deal of progress in level 5 because of it!

Other than that, I can't really think of anything to complain about. Maybe the fact that you get shotguns as the first extra weapon, which are, all things considered, not THAT different from regular guns. But that's really nitpicking.

As for the PS3 version, it's still a good game, but it's definitely quite a bit inferior to the 360 "original". 30FPS wouldn't be a huge problem per se, but there are a lot of big dips in that rating on the PS3, and that is of course very jarring. Additionally the load times are not just longer (even when playing the 360 version from the disc the load times are twice as long on the PS3), but more damningly, there are 2-3 second loads for almost everything you do: pause, pick up an item, unpause... For a game that promises (and delivers) "non-stop climax action", that doesn't really work so well. I've also heard that the graphics look uglier, too.

When my 360 still functioned, it gave me horrible screen tearing on certain games. I never saw it mentioned online, so I assume it was just my hardware causing it. I hope you're not having the same problem, 'cause if so, there won't be a patch.

Today is your final chance to register for Wakfu before it goes from open to closed beta. If you like SRPGs and/or MMOs and/or know some French, you will like it.

Am I right in understanding that the only client that exists for Wakfu right now is French?

You can choose English, but the translation is far from complete. Maybe 1/2 the menu text and all of the story text will still be French. However, there is a ton of information in English on the internet, so if you're willing to do a little extra research, you will not be at any disadvantage.

Oh my god oh my god Jump Ultimate Stars is so fantastic. It's fabulous. Lot's of characters that I've seen around and the gameplay is so fun. I also love the 'koma' panel system. Also, going between touch and buttons isn't frustrating (Animal Crossing...)

After finally feeling better again (I've been 3 days very sick), I started Mass Effect 2 and pretty much played it for 5 hours now.

I won't be spoilering anything about the plot. (but thus far I haven't seen much more than what they showed in some trailers anyway, you might get something spoilered if you haven't finished Mass Effect 1 yet though)

As expected, the things that are missing (read: they took out, ffs) I do feel missing.

- No exploration of planets with the Mako, but now you can surf around with your ship directly... which is really not a good trade-off. I loved drifting around the planets and killing some Geth with my buggy that shoots lasers and rockets. The way you need to find minerals on planets, that you can't visit, is extremely boring.

- You can't change the armor of your crew members. There's no reason to take this out.

- Apparently somebody at BioWare massacred the skills. They reduced them sooo much (to around 1/3 of the original), what the shit...

What kinda bugs me is that you can't take direct control over your party members. You can give them orders like where they should stay and how they should attack, so this isn't as big of a change as the other steps back.

It does feel like they trimmed the whole gameplay more to the mass-market and casual, despite Mass Effect 1 already being rather easy even on hard and not very rpg-heavy. HOPEFULLY they won't dumb down Mass Effect 3 even more.

It's quite the opposite of Dragon Age, pretty much in every aspect.

How the game world itself changed is very interesting if you liked the first game. To me, the universe doesn't feel like just ME1 with a new paint job, it does feel like a fresh universe. This is definitely something that surprised me and I'm happy about this.

However, so far the Citadel seems extremely small. The old one wasn't huge either, but it gave you the feeling there are quite a few places where you can go. It's possible however, that there's going to be more stuff later on, I wasn't allowed to go to the council yet.

Eventhough I haven't played the first one since it's PC release (I did finish it of course), I get the feeling that it looks basically the same. They fixed the fugly character-shadows (I think they fixed that with a patch in ME1 iirc) though. Goddamnit that was annoying in the first one. Runs just as good as ME1 did in 1680x1050.

Importing my saves worked flawlessly, it recognized my character perfectly, eventhough I didn't have ME1 installed. (I make backups of most of my saves though whenever I deinstall a game) It's also quite cool how this is all transfered into the world of the second game.

Still no option to disable those completely useless, but annyoing shadows at the edge of the screen. =/

So what's the verdict so far ?

At first I was actually going to buy it through amazon.co.uk, because their price + importing/shipping only costs me around 35€ which is very cheap compared to the 43€ it would cost me on amazon.de. (free shipping to austria)

However, when they announced how much they're going to cut out, I wasn't sure anymore and decided to just try it out first.

I'll play it some more and then see if I buy it immediately, or wait for it to drop to 20€ or something like that.

Treated myself to some new games today.

Uplink, an early game from the creators of Darwinia is a computer hacker simulator. It's a fantastic little game and I got really far in my 4-6 hours I played today. And then I got caught. See, I got a mission to find out info about who all this money was transferred to. So, I see it's sent to this Ian guy and he's gotten 900 000 credits (more than enough to start you off on the right foot), so while I was in his account, I transfered a little to my personal account. Well, I guess even though I covered my logs, the bank just looked up my account info. So, I'm in the middle of my next mission and the screen just goes black. I was freaking out because I thought it froze and there really isn't any in-game saving. And then the message that my account had been eradicated typed on screen. :shivers: Total recommendation here.

Big Brain Wolf is a point-and-click game with a meta-fairy tale comedy plot and Professor Layton puzzles. You play a really, really dopey wolf who likes chess and vegetarianism and has asthma, etc. He really is beyond dopey treading into just being depressing. Just a sad sack. Still, the graphics are clean, the dialog may get better (seriously, I played probably <10 minutes), and I like puzzles. Probably wouldn't recommend though.
