I'm not really up to translating the article, mostly because I really can't, but it says she fell from the 3rd floor of her house, and was found with her head bleeding. She was also drinking. Police ruled it a suicide.

Man, that's fucked up. If you watch the second video, it shows the ground where she fell, and there's blood all over the ground, its just kinda disturbing if you put the pieces together. Who knows what this could mean for Maki, though I'm really not concerned with her anymore, it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

I don't think that's blood... or at least I hope it isn't. That's a LOT of blood. I would think the police would have cleaned it up before the media could get such a clear shot of it.



Same with not really caring about Maki anymore, but she's had so many stressful things happen to her over the past couple of years. :x Sucks.

On the 23rd, the mother of Goto Maki (24), former member of the popular idol group "Morning Musume." was found on the ground outside of her home in Edogawa, Tokyo bleeding from the head. She was taken to a nearby hospital, but she was already unconscious and in critical condition.



The Metropolitan Police of Komatsukawa station are looking into the details. According to the authorities, the evidence at the scene points to a possible suicide attempt by jumping from the third story.



When Goto was in elementary school, her father was killed in an accident and her mother had to raise four children while running a restaurant.



In '99, when Goto was in her first year of middle school, she won the audition to become a 3rd generation member of MoMusume. As a new member, she contributed to the group's big break with their single "Love Machine" that same year. After becoming a star, she used her income to buy a house for her mother and continued to support her family.



Around the same time, her brother (23), who had been in an idol unit, went missing in 2001 and then in 2002 was caught drinking underage and retired from the entertainment business. Then in October '07, he was arrested for fighting with a guard and stealing cables from a factory in Shibuya and was charged with robbery. In May of 2008, he was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison. Throughout all of this, their mother continued to support the family, but according to her neighbors, she seemed in poor health and was having trouble with her liver.

On the evening of the 23rd, former Morning Musume. member Goto Maki's mother fell to her death from her home in Edogawa, Tokyo. The Metropolitan Police Department is looking into the cause of the fall. Just before 11pm on the 23rd, former Morning Musume member and singer Goto Maki's mother, Tokiko (55), fell from the third story of her home. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Ms. Tokiko was seen falling from the third story and taken to the hospital, but the injuries to her head were too severe and she passed away. In addition, Ms. Tokiko was intoxicated at the time, and the police are looking into the possibility of suicide.

Looking at the video clip, that appears to be a water stain, you can see it running down the side of the street. No one bleeds out that fast.

Another year, another tragedy for one of the girls. (Yossi's brother died in January also, three years ago.) I remain a devoted fan of Maki, so this hurts like hell. And her mother's a year younger than me.

I've been letting this sink in for a while, and I'm truly saddened. While I may not have followed her career after she went to Avex, Maki will always be the first Japanese girl I fell in love with (though not necessarily the first to love me back). I never met her mother, but the handful of times I was privileged enough to meet Maki, she was always kind and gracious enough to spare a moment for a whiteboy with bad Japanese grammar. I sincerely hope she makes it through this.

I never read those details of her childhood before, but it doesn't seem like it was very happy. While she was far from my favourite in H!P, my sympathies are with her.



I misread the truncated title on the index page as "Maki Goto's mom was killed" and was like OH SHI-. Then I read it right "has killed" and felt at ease because somehow I have imagined she has just caused a traffic accident. The family called 119 [Japanese 911]. Approximately an hour later, the hospital confirmed her mother's death. She had fallen from the third floor of her home, and the police believe the possibility of suicide is high.



According to the authorities, Goto's mother had just come home and exchanged a few words with Goto before going upstairs. Immediately aftwords, Goto heard a loud thud and went to the third floor to see what had happened. The window was open, and her mother was laying in the street directly below. It seems that her mother was intoxicated. There was no suicide note.

I guess everyone's going to go to Kago for comments on any news related to H!P now that she's the most readily available. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be in Maki's situation. I wish there was a way we could send messages of support to her and her family, but at the same time I imagine she might just want to be left alone.

Apparently, Maki has 2 older sisters too and everyone lives together (sans Yuki, who is in jail). I wonder how many of the girls were supporting their families. Maki and Kago are two, at the very least.



This is a tragedy that spans a decade. I remember hearing that Maki's father had passed away when she was young but didn't think much beyond that...but now.... Japan is notorious for its shitty infrastructure regarding social welfare and there is practically no safety net for single mothers: no daycare, little welfare, and workplace discrimination. Her mother must have struggled so much to raise a family and working in a bar might encourage alcoholism (esp if depressed). This is sad all over.

This is really sad. Maki has always been one of my favorites and one of the reasons for that was because I could relate to how screwed up her family life was outside the idol world. I know that you have to be in a terrible mental turmoil to attempt suicide but would Maki's mother have thrown herself out of a window with her daughter(s) in the house knowing that she would probably find her or at least have to see her? Additionally throwing yourself out of a third storey window doesn't seem to be a very certain way of killing yourself, you could just as easily spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.
