Beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder, but just because someone is not my type, does not mean I would call them ugly. Am I attracted to, say, 90% of JE? No, I'm not into their style, but I wouldn't call them UGLY, ugly to me generally means things like morbidly obese, disfigured, unclean, etc, or a combination of all of those things. Not my type... not necessarily ugly.

Actually, I think Sayumi is one of the prettiest members. I just hate how she looks here, all modeled up with heavy makeup and dowdy clothes. She looks so amazing in her PBs that this new look was startling. I think in general things people say here should be taken with a grain of salt. We may call this girl and that girl ugly/fat/wonk eyed/horse faced/etc, but that's all part of the celeb world. I could make a thread about any member of Morning Musume and there would be haters and lovers. (I don't find half of Morning Musume to be pretty, but then again I'm a girl so what I say doesn't seem to matter as much as if a guy said it.)



The magazine photographer in all their wisdom decided to do something with Sayumi that she's never done before. I'm sure she was thrilled to play dress-up, they aren't her clothes and frankly Japanese fashion is so weird and out there I don't even another to question it anymore.



Sayumi has ALWAYS had black hair, mostly always straight but sometimes she put a little curl into it. Here she has colored hair, something new, does it work on her? Probably not, I don't see her going and grabbing a bottle of hair dye anytime soon. Sayumi put on some fake-eyelashes and some heavy makeup, something she's not doing all the time ala-Tsuji.
