Ameba has revealed the 2009 winners of its annual Blog of the Year awards. Based on approximately 170,000 public votes collected between late December and early January, five awards were given:

Talento/Actor Category: Takeru Sato (link)

Talento/Actress Category: Nozomi Tsuji (link)

Model/Gravure Category: Rinka (link)

Comedian Category: Ken Shimura (link)

Culture Category: Yuri Fujikawa (link)

This is the fourth year that Ameba has presented its Blog of the Year awards. As of the end of January 2010, the company's popular blogging service Ameblo is home to more than 6,000 celebrity blogs.

I was never able to read her blog, but wasn't it mainly...like, sparkles and junk? Or am I mistaken?

Also, everytime I see "Ameba," my first thought is Haromoni@...

Man, I remember the days when Tsuji didn't look like a freak. Ah well, I still love her.

And grats on the award, Tsuji! Your blog IS entertaining to read.

Doesn't anyone like Tsuji's new...look? I think she's cute with that highly artificial doll-subculture styling but it seems like no one else agrees haha.

I have never read her blog. Does H-O translate it? Maybe it is worth a read.

Seriously. Because her blog deserves it way more! But I guess all those kids who wish they had a "cool mom" like Tsuji added to the votes.

I am with you. I love her mama doll look. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> Her style is adorable. I am surprised people don't really dig it.

And no Hello Online doesn't translate it. She's posts more than Yaguchi though, so I would imagine it would be a part time job just translating and formatting the beast~~

Nono loves her some circle lens! I have a pair and man, do I look creepy with them. She'd look better with a natural, dark color...

That being said, I still like her look. It's highly... erk, I don't have a good word for it. Like the not-tan version of gyaru? Lolita? Fuck, I need to study up on my Japanese fashion subcultures. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

... on the other hand, of course Ameba would give her the award. They've been sucking her dick (... er.) all year, what with the Poupee Girl promotions and everything.

As far as I know, brands like Liz Lisa can even be considered a form of hime-gyaru, even though their stuff is a little more trendy fashion than the pure princess Jesus Diamante. She's somewhere in between the two, so I think either "gyaru" or "hime-gyaru" would be appropriate. I've also heard people refer to her as koakuma-kei lately, which seems to fit her sometimes as well.

I actually think the dress and boots she's wearing in the picture Cyrene post are cute. It's more the ridiculous white eyeliner, alien contacts, crazy weave, and enormous hairbows that I'm not a fan of. But my dislike of Tsuji is a combination of factors rather than just how she dresses.

(edited for stuff I just remembered xD)

Yeaaah. Tsuji's style to me is pretty terrible. The GIANT hairbows and the crazy weave styles and the pigtails and the circle lenses that are like 5 colors too light for her eyes. I don't understand why people think that looks cute or good.

Pretty much this. It's just really tacky. I have the same attitude towards the ri-fucking-diculous nails Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi, and Momusu often sport.

Interesting! What is koakuma?

These fashion subcultures are so...theatrical to me that it goes beyond pretty or ugly and just becomes fascinating. I'm just sort of blown away by the amount of time and effort put into all that. It is incredibly high maintenance = dyed curled hair, heavy makeup, bedazzled claw nails that make your hands useless, and the frilliest clothing and accessories. So I'd never wear it but I love looking at how girls "transform" themselves into this fashion.

Tsuji, in this get up, just comes off to me as a cartoon character.

Koakuma Ageha is a fashion magazine that is generally seen as the bible of hime-gyaru and kyabakura (cabaret club/hostess club) girls. I'd actually be surprised if Tsuji has never been featured, but I know she's not one of their regular models (who are like...worshiped by some hime-gyaru xD). The magazine focuses on hime-gyaru stuff, but also a more "sexy" style which is what has come to be known as Koakuma-kei. The skirts/shorts are super short, clothes are tight fitting, they wear the high boots, and the clothing tends to be less princess-y/cutesy and more street/sexy. They still do the huge curly hair and the super decorated nails. For instance, here's a classic hime-gyaru and here are some Koakuma styles.

Thank you for the ed-u-ma-cation~~ I love this kinda stuff. I love the Ageha too, it has such cute girls and clothing. (it's also the magazine that has the ads in it, where I order my circle lenses from. ♥) I am kinda happy to know there is word for the fashion though. It's super cute.

I am surprised they haven't featured Nono yet either~ <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D/' /> She'd be perfect eye candy for the magazine.

It came to me as a surprise that she got the award... I mostly skim her entries because they're either too sparkly and Noa-filled for me, haha. Yaguchi's is slightly better... but the circle lenses really creep me out. I liked the 'natural' look she had in MM... not so much now... just one big living breathing doll to me. o.o""

Unfortunately that is how Japan likes their talentos.

But I do like Nozomi's fashion style, I mean, I would never sport that but it suits her. In compensation, if you look at her photos with Noa, she can also wear more sober things and still look amazing. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Either, she has a nice blog, she posts frequently even though some entries scare me and I do think think she was the reason why Taiyo's blog was so popular some time ago for he did lose some positions when hers was put on air. I just don't understand why she is better than Yaguchi. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I do love both and yay, the prize didn't go to anyone outside UF.

The NYT just put out an article on Ageha! This is the recap off Jezebel

http://jezebel.com/5467670/valley-of-the-l...ls-and-escapism

The NYT's Kaori Shoji reports on two new "doll-like" fashion movements making waves in Japan: Mori (forest girl) style and Ageha (butterfly) style. ....The other movement, Ageha, translates to "Swallow-tail butterfly girls," but really means girls who dress themselves as ornately as possible.....

These types of movements do not stem from a desire for compliance or to fit in. Indeed, many of these street-grown fashion movements focus squarely on self-expression, even when others believe it to be unacceptable. In the NYT article, one of the Ageha girls mentions:....

To some, being fashionable is a simple matter of looking appealing, or of being cute. But to others, the true power in fashion comes from the act of transformation, of being someone completely and utterly different.

I do agree that she wears more sober things when with Noa and her husband, but sometimes I just think she overdoes it. But then, I remind myself that she's actually only 2 years older than me, so I guess it's somewhat understandable with the cutesy style (not that I dress like that haha). She has nice outfits, so I gotta give her that. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Huh... I stopped following her blog after people stopped translating the posts...

However, it kept my interest while it lasted, as random or repetitive as some of her topics were. Admittedly, I was more interested in stories of Noa.

I can't imagine anyone looking like here walking down a street without standing out too much, but Tsuji's persona has always seemed surreal in the first place, so it didn't seem unnatural for her.

Does anyone know if her blog is still being translated, or have people effectively given up?

Man that girl gets around. I'm pretty sure she's one of the same girls that got followed for the Himitsu no Arashi-chan ageha specials a while back.

Anyway, it sounds bad in her quote, but I think (obviously I could be wrong, she may just be a flake xD) that she's talking about the princessy/fairy tale aspect of the style. It's so over the top it's beyond just looking cute. I think you could compare her feelings to that of say...someone who dresses up for ren faire, or does cosplay. The idea is to sort of "escape into another world." Though unfortunately the difference is that with dedicated hime-gyaru, they tend to pretty much move in to that new world xD
