We Are Buono!

Post by Shoujo Q »

Buono's 3rd album was released the same day as Morning Musume's single so it might have fallen off some or your radars. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':popper:' />

Go buy it or download it or whatever it is you do to get your H!P fix. I know it's on the BBS Online Radio so if you haven't heard it yet, go do that.

So here are my thoughts, feel free to post your thoughts. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

One Way = My Way -
It's a good opening song but it's not as good as the last two album's opening tracks. I can see it as a pretty good concert song, it'd get a lot of energy out of people.

Our Songs - Single track, it's good I guess, I liked it for what it was but it's a single track, moving on! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Independent Girl - Dokuritsu Joshi Dearutameni -
A solid song that builds up into a guitar rift. I like it, I can see myself listening to it more then once.

MY BOY - My favorite of the single tracks. Nothing else to say about it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Urahara - The opening of this song I thought of another song, may have been H!P or not, but for the life of me I can't remember which song it was and it's killing me. (HELP ME!) T___T Anyway it's a slow song that takes a break after the first 4 songs. It's cool down time.

Take it Easy - We continue into cool down mode with the 3rd of the single tracks. Mellow out with Buono~

Bravo*Bravo - And we're back with the rock with the 4th Single track. PATI!

Kataomoi. - It's an okay song, but off the album it's not my favorite. I just skip it to get to the next track.

Blue-Sky-Blue -
And I skip it to this song because it's one of my favorite on the album. It has a quality to it that reminded me of Goal.

Koucha no Oishii Mise - And then we get something completely off tilt and here's a poppy fluff tune. If Buono were doing ending themes or opening themes for Card Captor Sakura, this could be useless it has that type of quality I think. It's very un-Buono like but it's good I think, I'm still unsure. D: It's confusing.

Tabidachi no Uta - I love the instrumental on this. This is a good ending song, but unfortunately this isn't the ending song we get a special treat after. I guess you could call this and the song before the second Buono cool down as we get ready for the finale encore.

We are Buono! - Buono! no Theme -
This is a great song, I love it! D: It could have gone first on the album but it works at the end as a period note on a great album. The lyrics leave much to be desired but they are cute. The little part where they say their names and the guitar plays is very reminiscent of the K-ON bit in the OPing of the anime series.

Overall thoughts - I personally think it's a much better album then their second, maybe even their first. There are a lot more songs on this album that I would listen to over and over again. It's all about the rock in this album and I like that about Buono. Also I like how the album is put together it doesn't feel all pieced together like say, a Morning Musume album would be.

Buono's pretty much the sole remaining H!P act that's reliably great, or at least very good. Of course, this means their breakup is imminent. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':popper:' />

If Shugo Chara! ends, I will cry.

And not because I'm a Shugo Chara! fan.

I can't stop listening to this album. ;-;

Okay, good to know I'm not the only one thinking that. XD

Independent Girl is kind of SCANDAL-ish <3

Urahara's intro, I think makes me think of either Little Big Planet or Little Miss Sunshine.

WOW, the guitar solo is GREAT!

Kataomoi is just really good, no complaints.

Blue Sky Blue
is kind of strange, but good for them for trying something different. The heavenly echos are interesting, especially in the guitar solo.

Koucha no Oishii-ten makes me think of the "softer, less sexed up side of Viyuden" <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':popper:' /> . Magokoro no Michi, that's the one. I love both songs.

Tabidachi no Uta is a sweet false ending. I like the acoustic guitar and violin moment after the guitar solo. Oh, the ending is really good.

Buono no Theme could have been fine toward the start of the album, not even the opening (if they changed the title, I guess) I has more of a 2nd or 3rd track feeling. I love when Jpop songs announce that you're about to hear a guitar. OK GUITAR

I only really care for about 3 or 4 Buono singles, but their album tracks really shine, especially this one. I should definitely revisit the ones I can't remember. It's like, there's Renai Rider, and a big blur around everything else, until recent singles.

Urahara's intro reminds me of Morning Musume's, Ai to Taiyou ni Tsutsumarete.

Took me all day to figure that out. T_T I overplayed the song though. :x

I am saddened by the indifference to this album here. This is the best H!P album since Buono's first album, and in all likely hood will not be bested any time soon.

Random jonky review I did that pales in comparison to Pucchi's.

Is it Koucha no Oishii Mise or Koucha no Oishii-ten?

If it's the latter, I've got a problem on my hands...lol

I listened to their new album, and it's the opposite of suck. Dare I say, it rocks in a way I didn't think any HP act other than MKB could. Are their other albums rock too, or is this just a concept album?

This is their 3rd album, here's a link to them on Hello Tracker. I'd have to relisten to be sure, but I think this one is the rockingest. If not, then it'd be Cafe Buono, their 1st. Buono 2 is less so, but still better than most H!P releases in the past several years.

Oh goddammit, the link just gives the main page. Well, you know how to google. Or here's their listings on jpopsuki 2.0 if you have an account there. If not, I've got invites, PM me if you want.

Buono only numbered their second album.

First album was Cafe Buono! and it was very good but experimental since they played with rock, pop (Or whatever you want to call Kokoro no Tamago) and a little electric pop ala Perfume (Internet Cupid).

Second album was Buono!2 and it wasn't so good but they were getting more into the rock but this was like a Sophomore awkward stage album. My opinion is that the singles were what carried this album. Early Bird and Goal were the only two album tracks I liked. Minna Daisuki was was their last attempt at a Shugo Chara Opening so it sorta doesn't fit in with the rest of the album.

And then you have We Are Buono! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Here's a link to Direct Downloads. I dunno if the links work though. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Now you know why there are so many hard-ons for this group around here. Start to finish, this is their most rocking long-player, but you might like Cafe Buono! if you like this.

Every week The New York Times does a round-up of new CD reviews and I stop to glance at the titles in the vain hope that one day they'll surprise the hell out of me and review a J-pop title.

Anyway, I got my copy of this album in the mail yesterday (it took 2 weeks from the day CDJapan shipped it) and I listened to it twice at work today. Not the best way to listen to it, since I have to keep it low so as not to disturb my office mate, but I enjoyed it a great deal. Haven't had time to differentiate the individual tracks, but I just liked the overall tone of it, the move in a different direction from what these girls normally do. A little more aggressive, girl power kind of thing. But fun, without being strident. And without annoying me the way Aya Hirano does when she rocks out. (Sorry, I like Aya, but I just think her voice sounds better with lighter, melodic J-pop material, like the anime themes she's done, than with rock.)

I recently picked up the Buono concert from last spring, "Live 2009 Hybrid Punch," and in the second half, an all-woman rock band comes out to accompany them live. Great stuff.

Which begs the question: how much of the background music on the new album is live accompaniment? Parts of it sure sound like a rock band and not the canned tracks we usually hear. And if it is indeed live, is it the rock band from the concert?

Thanks.

I guess I'm the only person here who thinks this is pretty bad. Their sound has changed a lot recently to either just be calm pop music or heavy rock music with little melody, instead of being a great mix of both like they used to be. Urahara and Buono Theme are the only 2 songs on here that I find listenable, and I didn't like the singles from this album either, except Take It Easy is fantastic, which most people here also seem to hate, and My Boy has grown on me since it originally came out, too. I hope they get some more interesting singles soon or they're quickly getting put behind a few other H!P acts on my ranking list.

What other H!P album has had this much rock instrumentation? This has the most I've ever heard. (Not counting Hangry&Angry's album, which comes to mind because it has two former MM members in it, but it's not from H!P.)

Anything else approaching it?

Thanks.

Nope. This is the first ever rock-ish album or even group (with of course the exclusion of HANGRY&ANGRY) I've heard coming out of H!P. There's the occasional rock-ish single, but never a group that's done nothing but (although I know in the beginning their songs had more of a pop vibe).

I think that was the image they were wanting Buono! to have, and why the picked the girls they did. Although I haven't really seen this out of Airi, Momo and Miya both harbour that rock style.

The weird thing is, I used to hate Take it Easy too and now I love it. Something about hearing it for the first time while watching a decidedly NOT-ROCK video bored me and I wrote it off. Surprisingly, it was hearing it as the anime ending theme that made me realize how amazing the song is -- usually anime-tie in songs have the opposite effect, but maybe it was disassociating the song with any expectations of "rock" or "cool" etc. Now it is one of my favorite songs on the album.

I watched the Buono concert last night (Live Hybrid Punch 2009). Since it has a quartet of female rockers accompanying them in the second half, I was sure there'd be songs from the "We Are Buono!" album. There weren't. The songs they do in the concert are basically J-pop songs with a rock beat, not the rock songs they do on the album. Then, in the documentary segment of the DVD, I learned that the concert was taped over a year ago, so maybe it shouldn't be such a big surprise.

In any event, it's a great concert. One of the best from H!P I've seen in a long time. And between the songs in the concert (which included a couple of their singles, the only songs I was familiar with since I haven't listened much to their earlier albums) and the songs on "We Are Buono!," these girls have quite a wealth of material.

I'm gonna do a blog entry on the concert within the week.

Eh, up until this release, those groups had a grand total of three albums worth owning, with each having one: the debuts of Berryz and Buono!, and C-ute's third. Buono's second is decent, though.

I went looking in my collection this morning for the second album in order to see how many songs on it were performed in the concert and learned, much to my dismay, that I never bought it. I must correct that oversight.
