While it's not as bad as Japanese Gee, it's still weird (especially the part at 3:10~end and whenever they sing that way in the song) and I'll just continue listening to the Hangul pro version.

^ I agree, it definitely is less weird than Japanese Gee. But it's still...odd. It's like when a BoA song comes on your ipod, and you go to sing to the Korean lyrics but it's the Japanese version, or vice-versa. O_o

I think it's mostly Taeyeon that sounds really bad, and that's a real problem cause she gets so many lines and completely dominates the chorus lines as well. I absolutely can't stand SNSD in Japanese. Seems like usually Korean groups get the hang of Japanese pretty quickly, like Kara and DBSK, but with SNSD it just isn't working out so far. Taeyeon desperately needs some lessons.

COMPLETELY agree. I've been pretty amazed at how KARA is getting grasp of Japanese pretty quickly.

You can see how Taeyeon-dominated this song is, even more than usual for SNSD I believe, and her lines all sound like broken Korean. Singing-wise all the girls sounded really good (I even questioned if it was sung live until Taeyeon's mic dropped signal for a second), so that was cool, and they look cute and all, but the song sounds real bad to me. RDR grew old on me very quickly anyway though.

The demo version of Genie has recently been leaked. It's a comparatively "thinner" arrangement with less bass and no obnoxious laugh tracks. The most pleasant surprise is Jessica's ad libs, which were axed from the release version; Jessica fans should check them out. (Is there a better word than "ad lib" for those? They're not actually improvised at all. Japanese terminology has a similar problem -- they're called "fake(s)" but the implied spontaneity is entirely absent.)

EDIT: In case anybody cares, I took the released version of Genie, edited out all the obnoxious laughter and chatter, and spliced in the demo version's bridge with Jessica's adlibs. Unfortunately I couldn't find a source for the intro that doesn't have the creepy "turn it up" guy, so he's still in there. Aside from that, I consider this my perfect version of Genie.

In other news, SNSD hits number oneon 8th annual Korea's Powerhouse Celebrity 40.

The group's FINALLY going to release an original Japanese song on April 13th to be tied in with a Lipton CM, it will be called Mr. Taxi.



Also they will have a Nationwide Japanese tourstarting on May 18th.

I really haven't been able to stand their Japanese activities so far, but that cover may force me to purchase the single.

After seeing their 'Santa Baby' performance, they should consider releasing an English single. Tiffany and Jessica are American so they are obviously good at English but the rest of them seem fairly proficient in it too. That'd be awesome.

Yeah, but like you said, they've got Tiffany and Jessica doing most of it for them. And after hearing Sooyoung's rendition of Santa Baby, which was god awful since she could really only pronounce three lines and the rest of it was gibberish, I'm doubtful that they're all singing the English lines.



Of course, the biggest problem would be they have no place to release it.

There seems to be a thing going on between Lady Gaga's new song and SNSD's song Be Happy from their Oh album. (Listen~)

E-TRIBE, the composer behind “Be Happy,” responded to the claims through Newsen on March 11th and stated, “Someone this morning told me that there were reports of Lady Gaga plagiarizing SNSD’s ‘Be Happy.’ I listened, and I do feel that there are similarities. The way the song flows and the arrangements are, honestly, the same. I am currently working to get in contact with Lady Gaga’s publishing label to find further information.”

Previously, E-TRIBE announced ,”I do feel that there are similarities. The way the song flows and the arrangements are, honestly, the same. I am currently working to get in contact with Lady Gaga’s publishing label to find further information.”



On March 21st, An Myung Won of E-TRIBE stated, “Those around us say that Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ plagiarized SNSD’s Be Happy,’ so I did check it out. For now, we don’t have plans of taking any action.”



He continued, “It is true that the song’s flow and arrangement are similar, but after discussing it further with various other professionals, opinions remained divided. There are too many convoluted parts to nail it as plagiarism, so we’ll be discussing further options calmly.”

Probably because most people didn't think it was enough for an actual accusation, or they were worried about embarrassing themselves. Not surprising, since kpop plagiarism issues tend to go nowhere. SM were supposedly going to take action against the woman who plagiarized Genie, but nothing ever came of that either.
