I would never ever buy a microsoft console.
That's unfortunate to miss out on the best games of this generation.

I'm trudging my way through scribblenauts. Cute little game, though the controls make me want to throw my DS at the wall. I think I've spent more time on the title screen summoning various things to fight each other!

well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I've stopped participating in the console wars/being a fanboy during the early GCN/PS2 days, so I won't continue this and will not try to convince you, as history has proven, it just won't work. Besides, I would attack every owner of a microsoft console ever with my argumentation and I really don't feel like doing that stuff anymore, seeing as how most console people just don't care about the market and wouldn't understand me anyway.

And yes, I do know I have to some degree attacked them just by saying this.

Petit Melon--that's exactly what Ive been doing in Scribblenauts. Playing the actual game is so incredibly painful I just don't bother anymore. Terrible game, but awesome toy.

If you really want me to explain, I can. If not, skip the next paragraph.

It's not like I love Sony/Nintendo. (I used to love Nintendo though, but as I said, I'm not a fanboy anymore and I also don't have a Wii)

However, seeing Microsoft trying to break into another market at all costs and all the people just seem to not care about how Microsoft tends to be very asshole-ish in all the other markets they're in, I really can't understand how you can support such a company by buying their console.

I'm not disagreeing with a third force entering the console market again, but I strongly disagree with it being microsoft. Hell, I'd rather have fucking apple make a console, which would just a dumbed down console and pay double the price.

The console market used to be near and dear to me, but it's not anymore. To me, if you let a company like microsoft being really successfull in a new market, it just goes to show that you actually really do not care about the market.

I also have to agree that Scribblenauts is a very interesting game.

I don't care about the systems, it's the GAMES that I love. And by hating on either the 360 or PS3 you're missing some great games. Granted, the PS3 has far less than the 360, but the good ones really stand out. Uncharted 2, for example, is at the top of my most anticipated of October list.

I don't dislike the system, I dislike the company behind it. They've proven to be major assholes in the other markets and they obviously aren't any different in the console market, which, sadly, they will also dominate at one point.

At least the asian market doesn't give two shits about them.

That is pretty true. I'm not saying there aren't good games for all the systems, but I'm not going to waste my time and money on a system that has far less than the one system that interested me in the first place and has still NEVER let me down for one day of my life in the last 4 years. If there end up being good games for Wii or PS3 every once in a while (and I do mean once in a great while) I just play them on a friend's system until I get bored, which unfortunately doesn't usually take very long, then I've got it out of my system and can go back to playing games that actually make me feel accomplished and fulfilled after spending time on them.

Unless they actively went out of their way and fucked up every single thing that made the original good, it will be a good game. Besides, the few sites and reviewers that I usually agree with have said the game is as good, if not better than the first.

It is. They're called "demo versions" and this one's pretty damn cool.

FINALLY got a SFIV fight stick. Fry's Electronics got in a whoooole bunch of the Standard Edition for both systems, and even a few of the Tournament Edition sticks. I was thiiiiiiiiiis close to buying the TE stick when I went back on payday, but the 2 I found there had been reduced in price to $122 (down from $129) due to them being either floor models or returns. Still remembering the painful burn of their craptastic Fight Pads, I decided that I'm not taking any chances on anything previously touched by human hands, so I bought the Standard Edition for $70. Once home, I immediately fired up the PS3 & went to SFIV's online Championship Mode... only to have my ass handed to me even faster than usual, due to my forgetting to reconfigure my button setup. If SFIV had HD Remix's fake fireball, I'd have been throwing them like a mofo.

Awesome news. Hopefully the Ni no Kuni's actual gameplay is good. The trailer didn't show much. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> Looks nice, though.
Gameplay feels like pretty standard cRPG. Maybe even slightly archaic, because I couldn't really see much difference between that and Chrono Trigger or FF VII - which are the only major cRPGs I've played and finished - and I assume things have slightly changed since then. The drawing of the signs comes out as more of a gimmick that they put in because they could, unless it later evolves into something less trivial than just drawing the 2-stroke sign displayed on the top screen when prompted. It brought to my mind the teleportation system in the Betrayal at Krondor, however, and now that I think of it there's a lot of room for quite awesome implementation of that. Because, when was the last time when you have actually took notes while playing a game?

It surely does look absolutely gorgeous, though. The Ghibli-quality animated sequences are one thing, but everything in the game is drawn, modelled, and rendered Ghibli-quality. This is especially visible in some close-up scenes where you have the detailed 3D characters against beautifully drawn backgrounds, and it's almost seamless. In the wide shots it isn't even "almost", it just is seamless. I'm pretty sure that for quite a while this game will be held as the reference of what can be done on the DS graphics-wise.

And it better comes out in English, and NOT dubbed. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':drunk:' /> Although I'm not sure if that's officially possible, with how some 2/3rds of the dialogues are fully voiced.
It's not like I love Sony/Nintendo. (I used to love Nintendo though, but as I said, I'm not a fanboy anymore and I also don't have a Wii)

Aww, Ap's just like me some 5 years ago. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rainbow:' /> I'm definitely not a fan of the MS company and would prefer them to go away altogether, but I can't get myself to care too much about them entering the console market. It's not like the Japanese would let them monopolise it. And, some competition of ideas from a different cultural sphere is not a bad thing. I'm curious to see what round 3 will bring. From the perspective of a generally not involved and uncaring observer (never had a big console), PS3 was way overhyped and only seems to be recovering now, Wii is underutilised and can't get rid of the "casual" stigma, while the 360 provides probably the most levelled-out offering, although plagues by the ridiculous amounts of RRoD.

But in the end, it's the games that matter. So if I may ask not to turn this thread into a console wars grounds, there's other places for that. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' />

Risen since about 3 days and I've already spent 17 hours with it.

It's sooo good, this is how you make excellent RPGs and not the metrosexual crap Japan has been dumping most of the time after FF10. (Obviously not including the very good Persona 3)

Oh man, bunches of things.

The Movies (and the expansion) are my current focus. I love The Movies a few years ago when it was more contemporary, but I think the concept has aged well. For a sim, I think it's really unique and balances the detailed and the automatic very well. Unfortunately, my issue is that, after some point, you stop getting any employment offers, so your studio grows and you kind of just have to deal with the employees you have.

Sims 3 found its way onto my computer again. Despite spending a crazy amount of time between downloading it and trying to get hacks and objects and mods to work, I've spent a really small amount of time playing. I think I fell into the routine of creating a one-person house and just grinding him forever without any social interactions. I'm looking forward to the new expansion and being able to open a shop. That was one of my most used features of The Sims 2.

aaAaaAAAaAaAaa: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity has really evolved well since the pre-release and demo (read: it doesn't take so many points to unlock levels anymore). Love it love it love it.

Bookworm Adventures II is my first foray into Bookworm Adventures and I don't feel like I'm missing much. It's nice to open up during a slow class period and just plug away at some words. I haven't found the game to be too hard, but I'm only a quarter of the way through (I think).

World of Goo disappointed me, though I haven't been looking forward to it. The game itself has a ton of polish, but I'm not so warm to the gameplay. That and the game seems to assume you understand the universe and objectives. Not bad, but not for me.

Tropico 3 is HARD not out yet, apparently.

Plants vs. Zombies is a fun twist on a tower defense game that surprised me because I had such a negative pre-disposition to it from all of the hype.

and lastly, Cities XL doesn't have a crack yet so isn't something I'm playing, and I'm still on the fence. The gameplay seems complex and versatile and the social features are unique, but I'm still not warm to a city building MMO (especially a pay-for-online one).

Only 7 chapters in, but Uncharted 2 is as good as advertised. It's what the Tomb Raider series should have always been, and what the last Indiana Jones movie should have been as well. Nathan Drake is still the lovable, smarmy, buttmonkey that made him great in the first game.

Finished my first play through of Uncharted 2 and started directly into the second. Amazing game. Probably the highest production quality I've seen in a game since MGS4. It'll without a doubt take a number of Game of the Year awards, especially on the PS3 specific ones.

I played a few PS3 games at my friend's Play'N Trade store today and it was the most boring shit I've played in a while. I played Uncharted 2 for a while and Demon's Souls for even longer, both of which were extremely uninspired and very trite in their design and execution. I felt like I had played ten times better versions of both of the games in other games that I've played within the last year or so. There was nothing attention-grabbing about them and nothing that just really captivated me to want to keep playing, aside from both controlling like shit. And these are both games that PS3 lovers have been raving about the last month or two. I really don't get it.

Also started WET for 360, which is extremely irritating and not a terribly good game. Not bad, but made way too difficult for no one's sake. Finished Mini Ninjas last week and just got into the Saw video game, which is just a more realistic version of Silent Hill set in the Saw universe. Pretty awesome.

Also got the demos for Bayonetta and Magna Carta 2 from the Japanese Live Marketplace, and Bayonetta is fucking astounding, I already pre-ordered the Japanese version because its coming out in Japan this month, where America won't get it until February of next year. Magna Carta is WAY too slow to be enjoyable, it took me a half hour to finish one real-time battle, and even worse, its 2 discs long <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='=3=' />

Wow, I just feel sorry for your joyless existence. Please tell me what action adventure game is better than Uncharted 2, especially because you must have at least played it enough to see it do shit that no game technology has ever done before. Hating on it for being a PS3 exclusive is just petty. If it was on the 360 you would be praising the shit out of it.

This is the console game I'd love to play the most this year, actually.

If it's anywhere as good as Tim Schäfer's last Jump'n'run (yes, I know Brütal Legend is more of an Action-Adventure) Psychonauts, it will be an imaginative blast to play.

However, Uncharted 2 certainly does look like it is very entertaining to play.

I really hope they'll port it to the PC early next year, afterall Tim has his roots on the PC.

Played a demo of DJ Hero at ToysRUs the other night. Holy hell is that game fun. I was skeptical at first, but Boom Boom Pow with Satisfaction? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... whafap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sideways:' /> My biggest issue with the game is that the crossfader, which picks whether your on the left deck, right deck, or 50-50, is too sensitive to the left and right decks. Even though the crossfader can kind of click into the middle, it's still kind of hard to get it in the near center while looking at the screen. Also, the stage designs are really, really nice, but they've still just got three audience members <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /pouty.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Still, I'm a fan. I wish it had a PC release....

A lot of people keep saying this, but just like any other music game, ever, you're just going to have to get used to it. If they made it click to the middle really strongly, people would complain its too hard to get from the left to the right, etc. Hell, I remember people complaining that you had to strum with one hand and hit buttons with the other when Guitar Hero came out. People just have to get used to it with time. There's usually some kind of learning curve involved with any music game with a specialized controller. The game is pretty awesome though, I just wish the demo had more than 1 fucking song. Well, its technically 3 songs but you can't play them separately, so its kinda just like one long song. And you can't pick expert either, and I'm already conquering hard, but after playing Beatmania for about 3 years straight, its not too foreign to me.

Even though the crossfader can kind of click into the middle, it's still kind of hard to get it in the near center while looking at the screen.
A lot of people keep saying this, but just like any other music game, ever, you're just going to have to get used to it. If they made it click to the middle really strongly, people would complain its too hard to get from the left to the right, etc.

I'm not saying it needs to click in harder, I'm just saying that the sensor area for the center of the fader is too small.
I was a bit sad that it isn't even coming out on PC <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' /> Hopefully it'll come out on there soon.
Word, I want to play some Brutal Legend, because I'm metal like that. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' />

Finished playing Phoenix Wright: Justice For All. The last case was the best of the bunch and at least partially made up for the lackluster rest. And I so knew Franziska was a little crybaby inside. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'm gonna wait a bit more before starting Trials and Tribulations, not to be done with all the goodies too soon. Just please, no more Oldbag. Especially not in a spaceman suit. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... eeping.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Also finished all stages in the Rhythm Heaven. :phew: It was fun and not that bad in the end. I wonder if it has improved my reflexes and sense of rhythm for real at all, or did I just get better at the game itself. I hope for the former because I could really use that. It's gonna be a while before it starts catching dust, because I only have 8 out of 50 stages Perfect (and 14 more superb) so there's still a lot of bonus mini-games to get, which are just too much fun to waste your time with.

Also started playing The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. First time really playing any Zelda game for real. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /ph34r.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> It's a fun but rather undemanding and childish game that you could probably finish during one day if you cared enough (without attempting a speedrun). From the looks of it I'm already past the half of the main story. Obviously a Zelda game on a DS had to have touchscreen controls, but the lack of button controls annoy me a bit. I think the touchsceen controls in this game are the most gimmicky of all DS games I've played and are there just because they could be. Problem is that save for a few neat features (drawing on maps, using a boomerang) they could very well not be there. However I really loved the idea for pressing two maps against each other to transfer the symbols. For the longest while after figuring it out I could stop giggling at how clever it was. Now, if only the whole game was awesome like that...

3 weeks until I got all parts for my awesome new PC! Then I can finally play some badass new games. Or WoW. Or Ocarina of Time in P64. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' />

Re: What are you playing?

I bought RE5 on Steam more than a month ago (when it was released, for 35€, pretty cheap for a new game, thanks Capcom for doing so good and cheap PC versions ! [even if they do come rather late after the console version, but I can bear with that]) and finally got around to really play it yesterday.

I think I'm in chapter 3, but I don't remember exactly.

The game itself is fun to play, but there are several small things that annoy me:

- Why do the Health Sprays have a green "1" in the lower right corner if you can't stack them !? lol (apparently the console version doesn't have this)

- Why can't I split up ammo ?

- Why did they take out the yellow herbs and 3-herb-combos ? (It was really cool to get a max. HP boost in RE4 with a R+G+Y mixture)

- Why aren't there any artifacts you can join like in RE4 ?

I'm surprised at how good Sheva's AI is though (most of the time, that lamp carrying was horribly annoying).

EDIT:

Oh and Quick Time Events, fucking retarded shit.
