Just out of curiosity, what happens if you try to run a game that's too much for your computer? Just laggy gameplay, crashes, etc.? I'm just curious so I know what to look for in anything I try to buy or play, including Alan Wake. Since, even if I don't get it in this sale, I DO still want to play it some day, and I tend to stay away from PC gaming simply because I have no idea how it works when it's good or bad. For techie plebes like me, consoles are much easier to deal with even though I'd like to PC game more.

You got the world in your hands now, Bond villain.

Anyway, you can still emulate N64/PS1 and previous stuff pretty good and play a lot of turn-based games.

Which current/semi-old/old PC games are you interested in ?

If you really only play on your laptop's display, which is around 720p, you can still play some semi-recent stuff.

I'm a huge fan of PS1 gen RPGs. I forget where, but there were some interesting mods for FF7 recently posted here that I'd like to play. I have Breath of Fire IV on my computer (have had it for about two years, just no emulator). I actually just never got around to researching emulators to figure out how they work and where to get one, etc.

As noob as you can imagine someone to be with PC gaming, I'm that person. Fresh from under my rock. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Tbh, I'm much less interested in post 2008 games anyway, so this works out fine for me.

If you like point & click adventures, it's Deponia.

If you want to play the best the only FPS dungeon crawler released in the past 10+ years, it's Grimrock.[/quote]

I ended up getting Deponia. I need a breather after all the grimdark RPGs and first person shooters I've been playing for the last I don't know how long. And I got sold on critics comparing the game's writing to Pratchett's books.

I'm making my way through Old World Blues now. It probably has the best writing of all 3 DLCs I played so far, but at the same time is the least playable of all of them. It's like an interactive book with some fetch quests thrown in for good measure. Seriously, the intro itself and the following dialogues took like an hour and a half.

The updated one, just because I want to be able to take it with me to my mom's and stuff. And I'll just see how it plays out...because so far the characters that are leveling aren't who I thought would be going into it. o_O

A whole caravan of shit just hit a fucking windmill.

The debacle with Sim City is so insane.

First, a modder finds out a way to put the game into an offline mode.

Second, the "absolutely necessary" always-online shit is nothing more than a line of code that checks for a connection to the servers every 20 minutes.

Third, EA CEO STEPS DOWN.

Not gonna happen, as apparent by the ever longer history of this extremely intrusive and/or always-online crap. Stuff like Tagès, Ubilauncher and so on will always keep coming back every now and then.

I'm starting to give up on the gaming community as a whole. It's entering the same shit tier that is the one of other medias, really.

After 50 hours of play time, I just finished my first play though of Macross 30: Voices Across the Galaxy. So freakin' awesome!!!

It's the first import game I've played in years, but since it will never see the light of day outside of Japan, and how Macross is my favorite franchise of all time, it's a no brainer. It's a "flight action RPG" celebrating the 30th anniversary of the franchise, and involves a planet that's basically the Bermuda Triangle in space, which screws with space and time to the point where the game is a direct sequel to Macross Frontier (2059) that takes place in 2060, but features characters from the entire Macross series in their prime (the first series begins chronologically in 1999).

You wanna see what worthless assholes the CoD "pro gamer" crowd consists of today ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7HbCkU_-cM

My only feeling for these people is pure and utter disgust.

Eventhough I think this kind of behaviour and "scene" is the worst on both consoles, I doubt it's that much better on the PC.

My nerd rage against people who play CoD is pretty big. I guess I'm happy they made gaming mainstream so I can see companies spending lots of money on their games, but always being associated with CoD whenever I say I'm a gamer is more than a little annoying.

What I hate more are the "grrl" gamers that front all big because they "play COD like the boiz" and hate on other girls that don't play those games. Fucking girls need to stop insulting other girls especially since we're a niche within the community anyway!

Yes, I couldn't agree more.

Those always need let their vaginas hang out via their nicknames ("...Girl" and so on) and it's so laughable.

My friend got me Final Fantasy 13-2 for Christmas and Friday, I just got around to taking Final Fantasy 13 out of its shrinkwrap so I can understand what the fuck is going on. I had played the beginning of 13 a few times, but never really got the story because it's very selective about doling out information and particular about giving you that information later than you should have been given it. I'm about 8 hours in at the moment (chapter 5, I think) and I'm really enjoying it. I can get behind the battle system. It's sincerely more challenging than just being a "press X to win" simulator. There's real depth and the return to ATB is lovely. It reminds me a lot of 10-2's system of combos and open battlegrounds, but actually developed further. The graphics are fantastic and I'm liking the soundtrack (even if there are only one or two memorable musical themes). The story is unfolding, so I'll withhold judgement, but the ensemble storytelling and constantly shifting combat strategies is keeping things fresh.

The whole experience is very clearly controlled, but not much more than any other video game ever. I think the addition of an extremely honest minimap makes you realize how "corridor" the trek is. Thankfully, you're never too far out from a story nugget. I think the complexity/artificial obfuscation of the plot and world is why the gameplay is more locked down than, say, 7 or 8. It really is an alien world. So that's why there's an encyclopedia, that's why it leads you down each map; because if you get lost in a crystal dungeon, you may end up forgetting what made it crystal in the first place. And at least that's an earnestly unique way of handling such a segmented, time-shifted story.

VII is the only "futuristic" FF I like and VI is the only "girl main character". FF that I like so I pretty much have no desire to play XIII.

So I will continue to play Itadaki Street Po. Don't ANY of you guys play Fortune Street on Wii?!

Just a calm snow day, playing Chaos Wars. Most likely, none of you have heard of it, but its fun.

Also, has anyone here ever played Ape Escape? I used to be ocd about catching every monkey on every level when I was younger.

Since I got a key for BioShock Infinite with the HD 7870 I've bought a month ago, I was able to play it at midnight and get some 3 hours into it.

I've unlocked the 1999 mode with the good old Konami Code from the get go.

It's really the only way to play this, anything else would be a disgrace and not do it justice.

It actually got kinda Dark Souls-y because of how the respawn system works in 1999 mode, which is great of course. I'm really digging the challenge.

I've pretty much blacked out all media regarding this game, except for the first two trailers, so even the beginning was cool already.

Also, runs pretty great with a fluid 60~75fps in max. details:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =134037955

Unfortunately, I now have to wait a week to play it again, since I'm visiting my parents. haha

Yeah, but I had the Songbird Edition of the game ordered something like 6 months ago. I didn't think there would be a simultaneous PC release since I don't recall the previous two getting PC releases until months after the fact.
