Torrenting these right now, so I'm hoping they're good. Filler is my antichrist, so I'm hoping the series doesn't drag on too long if they're already using filler episodes.
Also has anyone read the manga where the guy gets to join?

Me, me!

What do you think, I think it's kinda crazy they would ever let a boy stay in a group with so many girls. It's also so funny how he gets to be the center.

Also does anyone know where I can get some akb songs?

Does anyone know where I can find the documentary with english subs? With all the Yuki talk about it here I'm getting really curious. Thanks!
You mean this one? If so, I haven't had any luck finding it for download, but I've been searching for months. That website has it for instant streaming for $5 though.

I like it. It's meant to be plain ol' stupid fun, and it is. I enjoy the caricatures of the AKB girls the most even if they look nothing like them. Maeda's the best, being the cold bitchy diva, haha.

That's good! I have a blah nose as well. It's always good to connect with other weird nose people.

No you don't, hush up!

Yuki talks about how she doesn't associate with her parents in the first AKB documentary.
Another thing for me to love about her. My parents are intolerable most of the time too. Maybe they are horrid.

Anyone put in their senbatsu votes? I put in two for Sayaka A. yay! I'd put in more but I am not rich. ;__;

I voted last year for her as well, she's my 2nd Kamioshi. Taka and her are very tied, even though they are very different kinds of idols.

So I'm still learning the girls, but I do recognize Yuko Oshima for the most part (mostly when she smiles, lol). I watched the first episode of Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Riyuu, and she's really, really good! Not in a B-list idol actress kind of way either; she seems genuinely good at acting. So I guess I'm curious if she's the only one in AKB who's good at acting or not. As much as I want to like her, I feel like Atsuko would suck at acting, but is she any good?

In my personal opinion, she's not really very good. I've also heard she's not actually considered very good in Japan either, but gets a lot of roles because she's popular right now.

I watched the first episode of that drama and I think she did fine, no better or worse then the people she was acting with.

What drama? The Renai Dekinai Riyuu one? For me, I realized she wasn't typical idol-actress level re: Atsuko when she broke up the fight with the other girls at the very end of the episode. Doesn't mean what little I saw was Oscar worthy, just that I underestimated her ability based on the fact that she's a super famous center girl in Japan's biggest idol group. I expected her to suck or be passable at best, but she's actually really convincing and believable as a realistic character in an above average drama IMO.

Maybe I've just watched way too many horrible actresses in shitty dramas, but she really impressed me there when I had no idea what to expect from her at all going in.

Atsuko is a pretty good actress in my opinion, I always enjoyed her in the Majisuka dramas, you should check her out anyways! I haven't heard that she's bad either, I've only heard people give her a lot of praise. Anderei, are you sure you aren't talking to haters? I don't really like Atsuko anymore, but even I think she has talent.

As for MajiSuka I thought all the acting was bad, but sort of in a so bad it's good way.

Manatsu no good was 3rd on today's Oricon ranking with 22.053 copies sold, so the total number is now 1.660.845 which means...

That Morning Musume's LOVE Machine has finally been beaten!

And it only took 1 week as opposed to the 31 weeks that it took LM to reach this number.

I'm sure there would be far too much butthurt if I posted this in the H!P section, so this will stay here for now.

Its even beating out the non-Jpop stuff now too on the worldwide charts:

AKB 48's new smash 'Manatsu No Sounds Good!' sold nearly 1,7 million singles and downloads in the first week after its release. That's the biggest weekly sales by a single since Elton John's 'Candle In The Wind' in September / October 1997.

'Manatsu' bows easily at no.1 on the new global top 40, which will be updated at Friday night (European time).

Legitimate question, not trying to hate at all: Does it bother you as an AKB fan that this song reached that sales figure, when people are essentially buying votes instead of really buying the single? I like a lot of AKB's music, but I thought this song was especially generic. Wouldn't it have been more satisfying for something like GIVE ME FIVE, where they tried to do something cool, to have sold like that?

Welcome to the vast majority of AKB's sales. Buying votes is what it's always about.

Well, I could try her on for size in at least one drama, I guess, but I'm not gonna watch something sucky just because she's in it. I actually had no clue Yuko was in Dekinai Riyuu before I saw her on screen (and she smiled, lol), so does anyone happen to know anything good she was in? I'm reluctant to try HanaKimi 2.0 (the one Atsuko's in) just because the cast is so huge, I'm sure I won't be able to tell anyone apart. D:

No bother to me, because when you get down to it, business is business. The copies were sold, they got money for them, regardless of the reason someone bought them, AKS raked in the cash for it. The fact that they came up with such a genius marketing scheme for AKB that they just sold the most singles in recent WORLD history, not just Japan, is pretty impressive. I also think the song is awful as well and would only buy the single for the B-sides, if at all, but none of it is really terribly satisfying to me on any level, its just pretty novel that they're making music sales history, but I do sometimes wish they would have made such history with a song and single that I personally think has more artistic merit to it.

That's a good point. In an industry struggling to battle piracy, it does seem like they're the only ones in the world who have come up with legitimate incentive to buy the physical product. That's probably an overstatement, but they are at least doing the best job of it.

Just think of how cheap you can get the single second hand after it's all said and done? Image Not that I've bought a single yet, but if I ever had the chance to, I might, if it had the right B-sides on it.

Yeah, you can easily get second hand theater versions on eBay for about $5 including shipping, and they often feature the B-sides from multiple limited versions, so it's kinda win all around if you like a few of the songs on that single. I've got about 30 AKB related singles and about 15 of them are cheap theater versions, and I'm quite happy I'm able to get them for that cheap, cause they're usually only missing a DVD which you can download in full quality anytime, but I'm a little more picky on audio quality of CDs versus mp3s.

I've yet to manage to figure out how to match ripping my mp3s from CD and having them sound as good as the mp3s I download. So half the time if I buy a CD I end up not ripping it and going with the downloaded version, which sounds much better.

I don't know what program you're using for ripping - iTunes? You should be able to change the settings under Edit/Import Preferences. MP3s max out at 320kbps; you can't make it anything beyond that without going into lossless compression, which just makes files really, really big.

Anyway - I actually liked Manatsu no Sounds Good; the live rip was a bit better since the echo of the stadium makes it cooler. But my personal favorite is Choudai, Darling, because it's sufficiently retro and cute.

I was having a really hard time understanding what the hell you were trying to say there. The way I read it, it sounded like you were trying to say that mp3s you download are sound better than actually listening to the CD, which is like arguing against the theory of relativity. Then kitaoji's reply made me realize what you were saying, and yeah, definitely tweak those settings, because even just ripping them from the CD right to your computer or mp3 player will sound better than any mp3 you download from the internet, since the compression and multiple transfer processes that take place for a file to get from its originator to you degrades the quality even before the first time you open it up.

I think that's probably my favorite b-side as well, music-wise, though the lineup is so blah/media senbatsu/same old crap, Mittsu no Namida definitely wins on the lineup front, but Choudai is the better song.

That what surprised me the most. She used be in the top 10 and now she is an undergirl. I wished they didn't let SKE, NMB, and whatever in these elections. They can have their own elections.
