But that's everything idols do (though I do believe that some idol personalities are more based in reality than others). I don't see the blogs as being any more ficticious than Alo Hello DVDs, TV appearances, concerts, etc - they're just an extension of those things built for a new popular media. I think we're actually on the same page there, the main point of my post was to respond to your questioning of why people liked them. As long as they have some kind of content beyond "I'm going to be in this drama next friday please watch!" they can be entertaining in the same way DVDs, TV appearances, etc are.
I do understand what you're saying now, and I mostly agree, beside the fact that these blogs really aren't entertaining to me except some of the pictures are entertaining for a few seconds. They very much are alike to the Alo Hello's, TV appearances, etc., just a lot more boring to me. I think my main retort was to the idea that the blogs actually show some kind of insight into their real real lives, not just their not-at-work "real" lives, which is far from the case with these blogs. It does seem a little overboard with everyone going crazy following these like a sitcom or going through all the trouble to translate them when they're so damn boring, but I guess that's just my opinion.

It's definately a personal preference, and to be honest I haven't read any of the H!P blogs (aside from the first few entries of Kago's), so I'm not sure how representative they are of celebrity blogs as a whole. If you're not into the person writing the blog or they don't have anything particularly funny/entertaining to say, then yeah they can be mundane as hell

I also generally see blogs as just another forum for self promotion -- both along the lines of "buy my new cd! today i did a super secret fashion shoot!" and "OMG AREN'T I CUTE AND COOL??" Think about it this way: do any of your friends really "honestly" present themselves on facebook or myspace? No! They are little snapshots of our best images of ourselves. Take that and magnify it a billion for those in the media spotlight.

Have you read Maki's blog? Talk about nonsense. But then again, I really enjoyed reading Kitagawa Keiko's original blog, which was filled with her own self-reflection during her year abroad. I also can't help but read Teru's (from GLAY) because he talks so much about everything. Shokotan has her famous blog (it was what propelled her to her celebrity to begin with), but I've gotten over the thrill of seeing a cute girl stuff a cat into her mouth.

You don't have to convince me, I already said I agreed with you guys on that point I just don't see it as a bad thing since it's no different from what they do in any other form of media that we enjoy. Personally, I've enjoyed the ones by Daigo, Ninomiya Kazunari, Ohno Satoshi, Yokoyama Yuu, and Kago's when it first began (the charm in that one kind of wore off). I'm fans of all those people though, so that's not much of a guage, but I did like Takki's when I used to help translate it despite not liking him at all. He made up this whole fake company in which his fans were members, their job title determined by age bracket, and he'd tell them goofy things to do "for the company." So it really all depends on the direction the person (or their management) takes it. No matter how mundane the entries though, they can be a good way to get a person back into the spotlight. Though I don't care either way what Tsuji does, this is a great marketing tool for her. They only need to rely on the novelty of "omg what's going on with Tsuji and her baby!" to get her into the top ranking spot and catch people's attention again, and then she can work her way back into more "traditional" media. It's what Kago should have done, but really hasn't =/

I don't know if anyone here is interested, but since H!O stopped doing regular translation of Nono's blog, it's been picked up here. Please give some feedback if you're so inclined~ ^^

I have to say out of all the H!P girls who have blogs, Tsuji's is the most boring. Or rather it can be interesting but her "Let me describe every meal I'm making for hubby and baby EVERY day", well that gets old really quick.

The girl really likes food I guess.

I remember on one of the old new years shows they showed her scarfing down food inbetween live shots.

I actually love her blog the most. The other girls tend to be a bit boring, as well, but Nozomi's is so enthusiastic and filled with family love. It's making me really like her to see how much she cares about her baby and the cute things she does with her husband.

She does post an aaawful lot, though.
