As for as dance breaks/specials go, this is actually one of the weaker ones I've seen. But I suppose you have to think about the choreographer and the level of the dancers involved and judge it by it's own merits. But even then it's still a bit disappointing.



She sounds so much like Reina when she sings. Which is actually kind of annoying. I hope that changes in the future.







Here's some random performances.



Sayumi's autotune still manages it's way into a live of Fantasy ga Hajimaru. I cannot tell if she's lipsyncing or just using a backtrack, though.



They changed Suki na Senpai around to have more solo lines.



Also, Tsuugaku Ressha might be the very first song that actually sort of suits Sayumi's voice. Aika's doing the cute voice for Sungoi My Birthday though, and that's really annoying. Drop that voice please.



Full concert looks exciting, though. Can't wait to watch it.

Whatever... She's 12 and had been in the group half a year at that point, and she's already outperforming 90% of the girls to hold the title MM member.

When talking about the actual dance, I was talking about all three of them. I've just seen a lot of dance breaks, and I felt like this was one of the weaker ones. Doesn't mean she isn't a good performer.

Riho is already as good as the best in MM, sure vocally she isn't with Risa in strength or Ai in pitch tone and overall awesomeness but I believe that's just an experience thing.

I just thought the dance was a bit overhyped. I'm not saying Riho is bad by any means because that would wrong, I just don't think she's super amazing the way a lot of her fans say. I think she's put up on a pedestal that's too high, so I went in with higher standards and expectations than I should have. I expect more from people who receive tons of praise than from people who don't receive much at all. I'm actually not that hard to please, I have really low expectations from most jpop idols.





And on that note of low expectations, I want to say that I really liked Sayumi's little solo of Tsuugaku Ressha. Tsunku should let the bad singers do more slow songs like that.

Not to beat the dead horse, but seeing MM finally becoming more dance-oriented just makes me miss Kamei even more because this really would've been her place to shine. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' /> Noooow they wanna highlight great dancing with MM just because center-girl Riho shines with it, but Kamei really would've rocked that performance out of the water, especially since Riho's dance skill is even outperforming Ai there. I wanna see how she'd stack up against former dance queen Kamei.



But on a more positive note, I really love Riho's consistency when she sings. It's probably because she was a dancer first, but even though her voice isn't all that amazing or interesting, she's solid when it comes to holding the notes very, very steady despite doing lots and lots of movement with a more intense dance. I'm gonna guess that means she has really good breathing technique?

OK, here's the thing, I haven't said this before as it might be a tad controversial and possibly cause offence so I've been skirting round it but maybe it's time to say it.



The important thing is that what I am about to say applies to me and me alone, I'm not implying anything or casting aspersions on anybody on this BBS, OK.



My real problem with the 9th Gen and possibly the 10th Gen if they follow the same format is primarily their age. If my friends or family saw me watching videos of a group that has about half their members aged around 12 or 13, wearing short skirts and make-up they would think I was some sort of paedophile, and what really worries me is that I would feel the same if I saw any adult male doing the same thing.



I'm not interested in the 9th Gen because, to me, they are just little kids and as I said on another thread I find little kids of that age generally very boring and irritating. If I look and the video of Riho dancing with Ai and Risa I honestly just don't notice her, she just some little kid dancing about behind two very attractive women.



In addition I find it ludicrous that kids of that age will be singing about love, heartbreak, unrequited love whatever, it's just plain stupid.



Before anybody starts on about MM regularly having young girls in the past, yes I know but they were generally 1 or 2 amongst a lot of older girls so it didn't matter. With Ai leaving and Risa, Sayumi and Reina on borrowed time MM is likely to end up as a very young group indeed.



I'm sorry but that's why I just can't watch MM now and, even if they made a great record (and my opinion that the last 5 records are amongst their worst stands) I still wouldn't be interested.



I just can't follow a group with little kids in it, it doesn't feel right and I have zero interest in them.



I will continue to keep half an eye on MM whilst Ai and Risa are still there but after that I'm afraid that's it for me.

I do see your point in this, but unfortunately this is what sells in jpop. And really just pop overall. I would love to see songs about other things, but love songs are mostly what seems to be expected.



But at the same time, I can't understand Japanese, so lyrics mean little unless I go and look at a translation.

Anyway, the videos of the concert are solid. I would have enjoyed Moonlight Night more if it wasn't for the massive hype that preceded it. Still, if Riho is this good now, she will be really impressive in 2-3 years.



I also though Mizuki sang very well, she has the best voice of 9th gen without question.

I think that what he's trying to say is that part of Morning Musume's appeal is that there have always been plenty of older girls, versus C-ute/Berryz which were just full of young girls right from the start.

Yes, but only in the last 18 months/2 years as they have got older and have started becoming young women rather than girls. I'm still not bothered about their earlier work.



If Tsunku had kept any three (or maybe two) out of Ai, Eri and JunLin and only introduced two of the 9th gen it wouldn't have worried me too much, it would have been as it was in the earlier days.

I fought younger members for years, but since Tsunku hasn't changed a damn thing I finally gave up and accepted them as long as they are enjoyable (Erina, Riho) and not useless lumps (Mizuki). Hopefully he won't fuck with C-ute or Berryz and add toddlers to them, but I have little hope and I'm sure we'll have auditions or Egg additions to them within a year.

And about those concert clips, Riho is the queen of fucking everything. I rarely allow myself to get excited and I'm sure it will settle down with time, but I'm just gonna enjoy the moment here. There surely were better singers and dancers in MM's history, at least in absolute terms, but Riho's wow factor is just that, wow. I also love what they did with the Moonlight Night arrangement there, it must be one of the best MM concert songs ever.
