Risa's leaving not really harming MM that much, popularity-wise and the group itself.

Risa is hard working and has a great voice, but sometimes I still don't get why she got to stay in the group for so long.

How so? I've certainly noticed it in S/mileage after the girls in the group were only around for what, a year and a half since their major debut? When someone in the predictions thread guessed at one of the MM newbies leaving for school, after seeing how promoted S/mileage was seeing half of the original group drop like flies, it seems like it's entirely possible. When Maiha left to resume school life, it was a big deal. Now it seems so commonplace. Idols in the past seemed like they were a part of the tapestry of the industry, living the roles and seeming to enjoy the work. Now, I can totally imagine these girls with outside social lives and weekly salary checks. What happened? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' />

I guess it is a bit much to expect preteen girls to decide their life career at that age, though.

I'm not sure if S/mileage would have broken apart if not for the second generation, supposedly Saki would have left regardless but Yuuka might have stayed if she were still emotionally attached to the group. They could have just added one (or maybe two) members and kept it at pretty much the same dynamic rather than adding five, changing the entire system with some disorganised submember thing that was scrapped, anyway, and making it the new MM. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatthe:' /> I'd want off of that rollercoaster, too.

Exactly, with Ai and Eri gone, Risa just seems like driftwood. It's kind of hard for her to be a leader of a group she seems so detached from, I would imagine.

Because Akihabara is FULL of idols. It's a job to a lot of girls, not a career choice. Either it be the 48s, or Maid Cafes, or promoting for stores. Also with the success of the 48s, idol groups just seem to be sprouting up everywhere. I think a lot of girls chose to be idols because it's easy money and they like the attention. Hey I could be wrong, but that's just how I see it.

Anyway, back to Risa!

Sweet jesus, thank the lord! I have always found Risa's voice and persona to be one of the most obnoxious things to ever hit Morning Musume. It's true that the group will seriously be hurting from the loss of it's only mature voice, but I can't say I'll miss Risa's foghorn like caterwhauling. I just wish she would have graduated back in 2010, instead of Eri or the pandas!

Things are going to get very interesting if Reina or Sayu depart in the near future.

NOOOO!!!! I don't want Risa to leave...she's the only reason I could stand Love Machine being performed... I also don't want Sayumi to be the leader...that scares the shit out of me... But I do wish Risa luck in her studies and any and all future performances, I'm going to miss her voice and energy

This was totally predictable, but it's a little odd that they even bothered naming her leader if they've been thinking of this for over a year. They've never PLANNED a short-term leader. It's like of they had named Rika leader for the month or whatever between Yaguchi quitting and her graduation.

but I am not surprised that Gaki is graduting.

I'm sad, I really dont want her to gradute. But I'm not surprised

She's been in the group for ten years, and both of her best friends has graduted, Kame and Ai-chan.

Maybe it wont last long until the pepole that is left from the 6th gen will gradute as well...?

And the average age will drop to what, 15? It's a lover average age than Berryz XD

So now it will only be three members left from the 9/8-nin era (The era from Onna ni sachi are to Onna to otoko no lullaby game)

What will gaki do after her graduation?

Those fax fliers are even less of a source then neowing. Note that its still speculation which is why its never been mentioned as only a rumor. But I do hope it is ture, just because I'm tired of Dream Musume and their covers of the same songs over and over again.

Totally agree! Risa has the only mature sounding voice in the group, and I really think it will leave a void if something doesn't change. At the same time, as much as I love her, I'm pretty indifferent to the news. I guess I just saw it coming from the day they announced Ai's graduation. The only thing that surprises me is that it's happening so soon after the announcement and not at the end of the year like Ai.

I don't like the direction MM is going, but it just seems they decided to cater to a different demographic than the opinionated 20-going-on-30s that make up the majority of the BBS populace. As much as I want Emo Musume to return, I guess it's time I looked up what the 10th Gen names are. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... smooch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='=3=' />

Here I disagree. Or rather, I think it's too soon to say what direction MM is going. Yes, they put out a childish single with awful costumes, but it's been pointed out several times that this is nothing new for H!P and certainly one single like this isn't a sign of any trend. Really this just tells me that C-ute is overdue for their turn to wear stupid animal costumes. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' />

While I don't think we'll quite go back to Emo Musume (though Only you was kind of in that vein), I think there's still a chance they have something to offer for us old farts. For me, the 9th and 10th gen are a bit like the 4th and 5th gen. Right now they're all fresh and new and some are still stumbling, but their energy and personalities brings something fun to the group.

And I'd just like to add that Sayumi will be a fantastic leader, anyone who says otherwise knows nothing about Sayumi. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /noway.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' /> No, she can't sing to save her life, but that's never been something the leaders teach. She's hard working, she's great at variety TV and the best publicity the group has had in years. No one loves and promotes H!P like Sayu.

Well Neowing doesn't say it either... it really is only CD Japan saying it. Even the Japanese they do put on that page says nothing about it being the last.

I'm not surprised she's graduating, but I'm surprised it's so soon. But if she's going to repeat the current pattern of a short-term leader following a long-term leader, at least she didn't get scandal'd out. And maybe that'll mean a long leadership for Sayumi, which I would not hate.

And I'm really, really bummed that the 12nin didn't get a single that wasn't Mobekimasu or the freaking chicken outfits for me to draw a picture of.

You still got time. The spring tour ends in June and there will be another single (after Pyoko Pyoko Ultra) before she hits the dust.

I am not surprised at she is graduating but at the fact that she is graduating so soon. I was thinking an autumn graduation. Oh well, I can't wait for the Sayumin era to happen!

It's pretty much guaranteed that MM will pump out one more single before she graduates. I wouldn't be surprised if there was even some sort of album or mini album too. UFA loves to milk all of the money they can out of graduations.

She's no Takahashi or Reina, but I think Risa is more popular than she seems. There's a lot of hate for her here, but she always seems to have a decent percentage of fans at the concerts. Though with the short notice, it might be hard for them to squeeze much more than a single in.

Pretty sure she's typically in the bottom half of the monthly HP goods sales ranking as well, so she's not Ms. Popular in Japan either. She's from closer to Yokohama than Tokyo, if I remember right, so maybe she'll have her final concert at the Yokohama Arena. That's where Maki and Kaori graduated, so plenty of MM history there.

They knew since Takahashi graduating that she was going, if you believe the messages Risa and Tsunku left. They had time to work things out. I predict photobook, solo dvds and a solo b-side on their next single. Though I do like the idea of a separate single like they did with Takahashi. That might be a better idea.

So far the final concert stands at NHK Hall in Osaka, and that's with the added 14 dates. They may very well add another few to cap the end of May.

Also, about any other girls graduating, I seem to remember a time when you could graduate from MM but stay in H!P (but additional solo careers and side groups are dead)

Maybe if one of the remaining older girls leave MM, they'll create a new group for her to go into, like how Rika became full-time Viyuden.

I love Risa! I don't know how I can enjoy Morning Musume without her. They're turning into another S/mileage due to how young %90 of the members are. And now I guess I see why she got special costume treatment in Pyoco? Maybe. Dunno. Anyway, happy to see her stale ass gettin' the boot. Not too confident in a no OG Musume and all new girl Musume, but I guess this is the way MM's been in the past. Since I came in with the Pandas, I'm more used to stability in the lineup... Meh, oh well. At least my new favorite, Mizuki, is a new girl, so she's got some mileage left in her tenure.

The only thing I've seen with MM with Risa as leader was the Mobekimasu PV and Risa hardly got any play in that. In fact, the way she was coiffed and made up I hardly recognized her. Not a good sign of leadership potential. I can't imagine them shunting Sayumi aside that way. Sayumi may sing badly but she's great at getting attention. I hope she amps it up once she becomes leader. If she just vamps and lets the other girls do the heavy lifting, vocally and dance-wise, I'll be happy.

Still, I've always liked Risa, right from the start. I'll miss her. (But then again, I miss Koharu even more.)
