Just wanted to alert you all to my latest blog entry, "Singers on Bikes: Deanna Durbin meets AKB48," in which I compare AKB48's PV for "Iiwake Maybe" to a very similar sequence from an old Hollywood musical.

AKB48 will be releasing their first real album on April 6th. It'll sell millions, people will be crying in the street, babies will be born with the middle name 48, the Pope will come to visit and ordain Akimoto a saint and it'll be the #1 selling album of all time, until Arashi leases their next album, or someone important dies.

Here's a quote from Tokyohive of what'll be in the album.

A total of sixteen songs will be featured in the currently untitled album, including the group’s huge hits “Ponytail to Shushu”, “Heavy Rotation”, “Beginner”, and “Chance no Junban”. The album will be available in two different versions: a limited ‘CD+DVD'"http://www.tokyohive.com/2011/02/akb48-to-release-their-first-album-in-april/#" version and a regular ‘CD-DVD’ version. The limited edition is a special box set that comes with an exclusive 100-page photobook, a random collectible card featuring one of the girls, and an application for a special lottery. Albums purchased at any of the theater performances will include a ticket to a handshake event and a photographing session with the girls.

The DVD will also contain a few special goodies for fans – dance versions of the four songs mentioned above will be included alongside their PVs.

And despite all of what I just said, this will probably be my first AKB48 purchase ever since I've been waiting for an album like I've been waiting for George Lucas to put all the Star Wars DVDs into one complete box set.

Question for you guys.

In the H!P spam thread they were posting some AKB48 covers of H!P songs and while going through someone's YouTube uploads I found a performance of a song called "Infinity" from an AKB48 musical. But I can't find any lyrics for it, or whether they released an album of the musical songs, because I REALLY like it. It's performed by Sae and Yuki, and Sae is apparently a vampire. :P

The musical itself is called Infinity. There's two versions, one Yuki/Sae and the other Takamina/Sayaka.

As for an album, I doubt one exists. You're probably going to have to rip the music from the video. Most "stage albums" are audio ripped from the stage performances.

But it will sell over a million copies because it'll come in 5 versions and just like pokemon you gotta get'm all , who are you kidding?

This song is very Onyanko Clubish. It'll be a hit. #1 for a week. Extra special because half the sales of the single are going to earthquake relief.

Last 3 singles...Sakura no Ki ni Narou...Chance no Junban...Beginner. Beginner is the of the most popular AKB songs and it is amazing, you CAN NOT say Akimoto did bad on that one. That song is pure awesomeness. And Chance no Junban is nice, it's the Janken single though so of course it's not going to be a super cool song without the regular senbatsu, and Sakura no Ki ni Narou is great too. Hmpf. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/hmph.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hmph:' />

Besides these are all typical AKB songs, especially Kachuusha, and they're selling over million, they obviously do "cut it".

I'm looking forward to this song~ I like it, it'll sell so much though since it's the election single.

Ah, well then most songs are not like Beginner, they only started doing those songs 2 years ago with RIVER.

But this is how AKB goes, they've gotten into a routine now

late winter/early spring- graduation song about sakura (Sakura no Hanabiratachi, 10nen zakura, SakuShio, SakuKi)

late spring/early summer- bright possibly summer song (past 2 years its been hair accessories and pv's in guam)(Namida Surprise, PonyShu, EbiKashu)

late summer/early fall- election single (Iiwake Maybe,HebiRote)

late fall- cool dark song (RIVER, Beginner)

early winter - janken single? the first time they had a 5th single of the year was last year with Chance no Junban

Beginner is a POS song that is only popular because it did the "WooOOOo dark idolz" thing. Better singles were released that year, and the stupid false controversy propelled to an unrighteous tier. Tell me one good thing about that song that doesn't involve the image being SOOOO SHOCKING OMG. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... lleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

AKB has been horrible this past year anyway. Their side groups are getting the better material.

I think it's popular because it's a song that's easy to relate to. It's not my favorite song personally, but it attracted a lot more new fans and casual fans to buy it. Plus I think the B-sides were really good, they also had that Ameblo contest thing going on so 2 new groups were formed MINT and DIVA. I think I actually like the B-sides more. But of last years songs I liked PonyShu best.

Edit: I just watched a video of Beginner live, forget about the B-sides, Beginner is awesomest.

Most of the good songs seem to end up in the theater. Maybe everything else is just lackluster since Akimoto is stretching himself so thin, amongst three (soon to be four) main groups, all the subgroups and the theater (ALL OF THAT SOUNDS PRETTY FAMILIAR). I guess it can't all be good.

There's already 4, AKB, SKE, SDN, and NMB. Soon to be 5 with Taiwan. But True. Cause all the Teams each have their own setlists for a year, then there's the album songs, and 2 b-sides....so many songs! But the single songs are meant to appeal to all sorts of people of all ages and genders to pick up more fans so they're more generic. Like SDN48 has sexy songs and 18+ theater shows so of course they appeal more to older males, but a song like AKB's songs can appeal to someone middle aged, a grandparent, a high school, little kid, anyone. I can imagine a grandma buying Sakura no Ki ni Narou, but not as much GAGAGA.

Chance no Junban was great for it being a non-senbatsu single! And Sakura Ki song always manages to bring me to tears, I liked it a lot more than I did Sakura no Shiori.

This new song better have an awesome PV because I don't see myself liking it that much without one. It may end up down low on the ranks like Boku no Taiyou and Bingo at this rate, and that makes me sad.

And yeah, the better songs make it to the theater. I just wish they'd move on to the next stage more often. I guess it's because I only pay attention to AKB that it feels like it's not enough songs.

I have high hopes for you Taiwan!

Have you downloaded their old stages? A3 is great, K5 is great too. A1/B1/K1 are all the same, but classics are great.

Taiwan48 is apparently going to be their own monster and I don't think I'm going to listen to them. (I don't really like Cpop). SKE48 is good too and I think they sing better than AKB48! Don't get bored of them yet! :(

(Though No3b has better songs than AKB48 at the moment. What difference does it make if the songs are still written by Japanese?

On Stage48 someone made an epicly hilarious vid about the upcoming senbatsu election for AKB48.

Unless you know AKB well you probably won't get most of it, but at the end he brings us H!P, Dorimusu, and Mini Moni.

What's with all the talk on this page about Akimoto stretching himself thin/writing the songs? He's not Tsunku, he doesn't compose them. He can just hire more and more music makers. Writing the lyrics to pop songs isn't gonna cause him to break, nor is it the cause of their songs' quality declining in the last two years. Does anyone really listen to the AKB family of songs because of the lyrics?

There's not a single single on this album that I like. Beginner was absolutely terrible noise. I later got used to Heavy Rotation enough to be able to like hearing it, but I hope the album tracks can be good. I wonder if album tracks will be like the stage songs.

[/quote]

You people smell with rotten onion and have lice in your nose hair.

Beginner is a great single and has rightfully earned its position. Want to hear some good things? Sure:

- It is a stylistic and lyrical return to the AKB's very origins before they toned themselves down and pandered to the mainstream.

- It has mature lyrics that treat the listener seriously. Even if it's a somewhat angsty teenage listener, the lyrics trample all usual J-pop lyrical fluff into the ground.

- It has great composition and arrangement. While that's subjective to a large degree, you can't really deny it's well produced. Heavy Rotation was terrible noise, this is a powerful but varied song.

- It has a great PV, and I don't give a damn about the alleged controversy or whether it was real or just a marketing ploy. The PV had proper budget, was well directed and produced and most importantly was open to many insightful interpretations when paired with the song. That it broke some idol PV taboos is its least although a very welcome aspect.

- "WooOOOo dark idolz" thing is always a good thing. Down with the sugary fluffy J-pop. I loved "dark" Morning Musume and I love the dark "Beginner".

There, I said it. I still think the general AKB fandom is the most repulsive and pathetic bunch ever and I wish they could be wiped off the face of our planet. And as much as they throw me off ever calling myself anything remotely related to being an AKB fan it's not going to prevent me from appreciating a good song or PV when I hear or see one. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/hmph.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hmph:' />

The AKB48 Mousa girls are getting their own show

The AKB48 girls apart of the Mousa talent agency - Nakata Chisato, Nakaya Sayaka, Tanabe Miku and Uchida Mayumi - will get their own TV show on PigooHD, a girls’ entertainment channel from Sky Perfect!HD.

Their show will be a talk show titled, “PigooRadio Mousa”. Run like a radio-style talk program, “PigooRadio Mousa” will be 30 minutes long, and sees the girls tackling various challenges throughout the show.

For future episodes, fans can vote on what they want to see the girls do here.

I don't care about Nakata, Nakaya, or Uchida, but I love Tanamin, so I'll definitely be watching.

Maeda Atsuko is going to have a solo debut! It comes out 06/22 and there will be 3 different versions of the single.

In my opinion it's about damn time they gave her a solo career! She's like the Nacchi of the group, most of the songs have her singing so why not give her a solo career?

DiVA (a subunit with Sayaka Akimoto, Ayaka Umeda, Yuka Masuda, and Sae Miyazawa) will add 6 more members to the group! They haven't even had their first single released yet <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />. I hope this isn't the end of days for Sayaka, a lot of people are whispering about her possibly graduating. I am so annoyed! At least they'll have ONE single with just the four of them.
