I like his singing, so I will continue to listen to him. I don't pick my favorites based on their morals, I pick them because I like their voice. I could care much less what he does since I adore his voice. (I would argue that in theory I support his voice not him, but I don't feel like trying to defend that statement.)

GOD, why do I go on arama?! Why?! Those comments are leaving such a horrible taste in my mouth. Ignorance is truly a terrible, horrible thing. And I don't mean that in an insulting manner, just the literal definition of ignorance--someone who just doesn't understand--is insane for this.

Star, I understand how you feel. I really do. Two years ago, I would've made the same case for bands I listened to, justifying with, "I don't buy their shit; they may be horrible people but I'm not hurting anyone just listening to the songs." But I changed my mind without even wanting to when a HUGE favorite of mine just kept doing horrible things and I found one day when their song came on my playlist, I really couldn't bear to listen. And it's the saddest thing when some of your favorite songs have all the magic sucked out of them by knowing the voice you're listening to belongs to someone capable of doing terrible things. Now any time I hear their songs, I can't even think of anything except how disappointed I am in them, and it's just... ruined.

So I understand and I don't mind how you feel one way or the other about this no matter how it turns out, but I'm just throwing it out there that artists are humans and we unfortunately can get caught up in how human they are even when we wish we didn't.

Unfortunately, the music industry, in the state that it is, isn't just about music. Gackt is a public personality as well as a human being and he quite possibly brutally assaulted and raped someone. Whether or not you have some epiphany that the music is no longer enjoyable, continuing to give him sales, Youtube views, what have you is excusing this. Continuing to support him excuses and supports the rape, should it have happened, because not shutting it down DOES support it by allowing it to continue to exist by one's personal standards.

It's the same crap that allows Chris Brown to still be a hailed celebrity. It blows my freaking mind.

And the fact that Chris Brown is still allowed to sell music should be a good indicator that Star isn't the only one who dissociates the music from the artist. It's unfortunately very common.

The Gackt story is getting rather juicy, for lack of better word. But I don't really know how the Japanese legal system works.

And mostofChris Brown's supporters are women. That they have no problem supporting someone who would be willing to beat on them baffles me.

Right, because sex with someone who would beat me sounds so hot. (EDIT: Considering our TMI's, this doesn't sound sarcastic, haha. Rough sex is hot, Chris Brown's wifebeating is not.)

I still call Chris Brown wifebeater. That's his name to me now, and I wasn't even surprised when everyone kept pulling the "Well, he apologized" card. Anyway, I'm interested in this story more than most since it's so detailed. I plan to keep up with it as long as I remember.

There is a difference between being in the moment and getting what you want/request and someone being mad and smacking the shit out of you. Plus it's not like the guys are doing it with intent to injure like he did. (I'm also upset he still has a career)

It's not about being beaten, it's about being abused.

Another thing that factors into this, and let's be honest here, there are women out there that are okay with this shit. Or at least think this kind of behaviour is okay.

Finished my first run-through of Random Access Memories. I like it, but I'm not in like with it yet. It's such a hodgepodge of everything you could throw at "retrofuturism" that it feels securely nesteled in "camp." The mix and the recording are very clean (too clean?), so you get a lot of jarring moments when the song structure clicks to another sound. It reminds me of an interview DP did recently (was it the Rolling Stone cover story?) where they said electronic music is lifeless and they wanted to give music a soul again, but this has equally boxy moments. I'm looking over the tracklist and scrubbing through the songs and they're running together. I want to find just that one moment with the choir and the very Passion Pit feel and it's out of reach. The sound is just too similar throughout to find the prescious moments encapsulated in Funk Retrofuturism. There's an element of already knowing the songs. It's like hearing First Love and thinking, "yeah, this melody. Everyone knows this, it's a classic." It's synonimity; the songs come pre-chewed and are content to plug into what we already think of the 60s, the 70s, the 80s. It doesn't subvert, it memorializes. It very clearly does not push the boundaries, but it does give us a new look back. If Daft Punk hasn't done it, it's new to them.

Oh fuck Daft Punk, we're getting a new STUDIO album from Namie Amuro in two months! "FEEL" releases July 10 and will have 9+ new songs (2 tracks not yet confirmed), 6 PVs (5 new plus Big Boys Cry), and 3 versions (CD, CD+DVD, CD+BD) with a B2 poster thrown into the mix somehow. She's also going out on tour again starting August into December.

We'll be seeing Big Boys Cry come back, but not Beautiful (which also had a PV). There's also no Damage, but Contrail and Can You Feel This Love (which were leaked a while ago) are on. The trailer video is probably Alive.

Tracklist from Dimension-Point:

[spoiler2]

Alive

Big Boys Cry

Can You Feel This Love

Contrail

Hands On Me

Heaven

La La La

Let Me Let you Go

Poison

Supernatural

Love

and

two more songs (A to Z)

Music videos:

Alive

Big Boys Cry

Contrail

Hands On Me

Heaven

Let Me Let You Go

[/spoiler2]

Info from the teaser video:

中の「Can You Feel This Love」、

[/spoiler2]

I pulled out "complextro" and "drum and bass" from that as well as a "simple piano and strings ballad."

Cover images:

[spoiler2]Image Image Image

CD, CD+DVD, CD+BD[/spoiler2]

They seem to be a "speak no, hear no, see no evil" trio of images.

What's peculiar is that all this info is running through a new site, Dimension-Point.jp. It looks set up to hold information on three artist releases, not just Namie's.It's also got a lot of English (a trend in Namie's music lately. The trailer song is all-English and her previous album was mostly all-English). Her official website updated, but removed links to her discography and got rid of that awful Avex template all the big acts were using for a more low-bandwith theme. Her discography is gone and "Music&DVD" only links to D-P.

With her new hall tour, I wonder if we'll see her try to hit up smaller shows in America. After the controversy about her cancelled tour date in Singapore, I'm sure she could definitely fill a hall in Asian markets.

For honestlys, y'all? I'm getting a feeling in my head that I'm going to see one of these hall shows. It's one of those feelings deep in my bones that only get stronger as I think it out. I'm going to see Namie on this tour. Petit and Kahoryn, I'd love to go with you! I need to figure out how to get tickets and also tickets to Japan and how to get around Japan. I can't get into fanspace because I don't like in Japan, so I can't get tickets on the 25th. I really want to go

Update on What The Hell Is Dimension Point Watch: Dimension Point is going to be Namie's new sublabel (likely still a subsidiary of avex and possibly Vision Factory). Word is that she's managing it completely and the webpage is setup to hold multiple artists. We've known for a while Namie is closing in on her final years shucking and jiving, so producing and managing is the best next step. Hopefully this means she gets some real stage design.

Speaking of, I'm definitely going to do what I can to attend one of the tour dates. Does anyone in Japan want to help a brother out with getting tickets and finding lodging? Maybe there could be a BBS meetup~~

Can we have some people posting stuff that they remember from their childhood ?

Mungo Jerry (and some dudes) - Summer time - truly the ultimate song about picking up boys AND girls.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG0oBPtyNb0

I'm also amazed how a human was able to form around that tooth gap and sideburns.

Elton John - Nikita - of cours I had no clue what Elton John was singing about when I was a kid, but I still loved it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXLomhgBjx4

Queen - It's a kind of magic - Freddy doesn't have a tooth gap. BUT AN INTER UPPER HORSE TEETH THING, which was also a small part of what my him so unique.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWf5BLUOhNM

Thanks mom and dad for showing me these great pop classics, that maybe were a bit too deep at the time for me.

Triple post because differentiating-from-the-norm music is important (I consider it to be that) and I love Daft Punk to death:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYDvxo-M0OQ

This interview gives a whole, WHOLE new perspective on the album.

You know, even if I wasn't flabbergasted when I heard the first three songs on the album, I can still see what Daft Punk were trying to do.

It is not as FUGGEN PERFECT as the TRON Legacy OST, or even Discovery back in the old days, but not sampling anything besides Contact was probably a hard thing to do.

That Collaborators series is pretty cool, but I don't like the marketing narrative that Daft Punk is somehow breathing life into a lifeless genre because it might as well be "they did it this way because it's the more rigorous way you could do this and still call it electronic dance." That said, the prospect of doing "difficult"/unconventional dance is intriguing and actually builds a nice concept into the album, but I just hate the notion that Daft Punk came and saved us from ourselves while they were out flitting away time with Disney. If there was one pre-release thing I could take back would be reading that Pitchfork interview where DP denounce the scourge of laptop dance music ("musical energy drinks") and really any connection to electronic music. It created an expectation of something never heard before when it's still Daft Punk's techniques under expensive funk music. I didn't think an album could have a spoiler alert-like situation, but that's a little how I feel.

I've listened to the album a few more times through and I actually really love the core strokes, even if the execution is equally as flat as Discovery--only RAM suffers from such tight and clean recording that it feels bare compared to Discovery's perfectly imperfect sampling. The weak songs play well to the idea of "newness" and robotic emotions (hence rather robotic writing), but are forgettable on the surface. In my mind's eye, RAM exists as a prequel to DP's previous works. Two robots leaving their home world and travelling to Earth until they make "Contact." The AV Club called "Touch" the literal and conceptual core of the album. The multiple, disconnected styles circling the idea of pure newness (the regained sensation of touch) sums up the album proper. Breakbeats, disco, ragtime, ballads, driving guitars, shredding, orchestra excursions. They truly are all random access memories. In that regard, RAM absolutely, 100% kills on the higher level.

The Game of Love still sucks though

It is my lowest rated song on the album. They porn-cheesiness isn't even entertaining.

Daft Punk saved me personally from nothing, since I don't really listen to a lot of (western) electro.

I too had that feeling about RAM being a prequel. Contact was like an ascension to what they were/became with Homework.

My impression was very similar, with all these pretty entertaining funky dance songs on RAM.

I personally would even go as far as saying Contact is the best Daft Punk song to date.

As for Disney ass-kissing, I always just saw the movie as a two hours long Daft Punk music video with Jeff Bridges in it and nothing more. lol

Since when do Vocaloid sound so human. That's the least robotic I've ever heard Miku and Luka. I also adore this song.

Can we have some people posting stuff that they remember from their childhood ?

Mungo Jerry (and some dudes) - Summer time - truly the ultimate song about picking up boys AND girls.

I'm also amazed how a human was able to form around that tooth gap and sideburns.

I am late to this but OMG MUNGO JERRY. This was like an inside joke for my family for the longest time....it was on VH1's I love the 70s when I wanted to be a hippie and those sideburns CRACKED ME UP and the whole grunting stuff........maybe that's why I love tsunku now?

I had this pretty great post about stuff, but then my browser crashed, so here are just some links...

LazerHawk - King of the streets

LazerHawk - Space is the place

Power Glove - Nightforce

Never thought I'd actually say this, but I like a Taylor Swift song. I Knew You Were Trouble is pretty cool.
