I like your analysis and I think you are right about the cycle (and it being vicious haha), but for me it's all just a "how much hands are in the facial area" question.

I don't give a damn about Oricon, but let me put it this way. When a group does well and is #1, they get themselves some free promo courtesy of Oricon. Free promo is always the best promo!

I just meant... dunno, look at the banner on top of the page, RETURN TO THE TOP OF IDOL, it's what I want them to do. I love AKB for the sh*tload of things they release every month and all the drama, but Morning Musume was my first idol band and I care for them. I became a fan during The Manpower! era and damn me if I'm not happy seeing them now selling hundres of thousands of copies after so many years of struggle where the group didn't know where to go.
 
AKB are expected to get the 1st spot in their week of release because they're AKB, nothing new. But for MM is something important because before  Help Me!, the last #1 had been Shouganai (2009), and the previous one was Aruiteru (2006)... and then we have to go all the way to As for One Day (2003), where the big guns were still there to see it.
 
Another #1 would mean they're doing things right and not just a fluke.
After that, all they'd need is a good album AND PROMOTE IT FOR REAL (not just dump it like the last 8) and who's to say they wouldn't get on track to the top?
C'mon, MomoClo are performing at Nissan Stadium, so why can't they?

It's not a logical jump to equate sales with future production values, but with so many people moving to digital sales, Oricon is becoming an easier target. Does any service keep track of digital sales like Rekochoku or Chakauta?

I'm pretty sure there are separate charts for those services but I'm not 100% sure.  I remember seeing things like #1chakauta when I was in japan though.

I wonder where in Nagano though? I won't be happy if it's in Nagano City or Karuizawa/Saku. I have to work on the 19th and can't travel too far.

Ayumi and haruna are very impressive. Riho, Sakura and Masaki look great. Like, I can see the personalities through their photos: Ayumi: glamorous; Haruna: youthful; Riho: confident; Sakura: ripe and mature; Masaki: gracefule and noble (I feel like this is how she'll become in the future, now she is still a child).

Oda and Riho are channeling pure Mitsui right now and being photographed was her worst trait. These girls need to give some motion, some emotion, some dynamic element to these shots.

I say switch Sakura for Masaki and add Erina. Those those three to me go with your statement.  I think Sakura looks good it's just not a good pose.  These other three though just didn't take good pictures this time.

Eripon's the only dud that actually surprises me. Normally she takes really good profile photos. Everyone else's facial expressions have always kind of sucked.

I totally agree
But the other are cute nevertheless ^^ (but Eripon and Yasshi take normally better poses, in my opinion)
