Friedman's been an idol fan for quite some time. You can find him doing H!P stuff from quite awhile ago. He also covered Matsuura, Arashi and AKB48 on one of his cover albums and SMAP on another.

One of my favorite Kaori solo songs came on random right after I read this.

I want to say Mizuki. She seems to be doing a good job as leader, and like Sayu she was a fan of H!P before joining, so I could see her just staying forever.

I would have said, if it was going to the family that would be understandable since they were poor off to begin with but the fact they spent it on online games. That's horrible. No wonder she's working her ass off now doing talent work on TV shows now. 10 years is a lot of ground to cover. But I think her saving grace is that C-ute really hit their high point now and didn't crumble like Berryz so more work for her means more money coming in.

But no, really... that's always so fucked up. It's a sticky situation because, as a company, you can never tell if the child or parent will be more irresponsible with the money. Here's a comment someone left on it that really resonated with me:

"Can you imagine working like a dog in a girl group because they work really hard, losing part of your childhood and nothing left financially or family-wise."

Because it's true... You put all this work but there's not much left in some areas afterwards. Sure, you gain a relationship with your fans/members/staff, make great memories, usually enjoy what you do but.... At the end of the day, once you graduate, what you need is money and family. The memories and friendships are great but fans who don't pay for your goods anymore aren't gonna pay your bills. They're not gonna be there for you on the holidays.

I went to Morning Musume '15 's concert the other night and I am completely sold on 12th gen now. Love them. I love all the members, my least favourite is probably Masaki but she still serves good purpose so I don't strictly dislike her either. Miki Nonaka's English is so cute oh my god she's definitely my fave 12th gen.

That's kinda sad. The 4 of them were together in the list and once a member graduates she stays at one number while the others keep going up in the ranking.

As happens on occasion, my MP3 player for some reason switched off of random play order, so while driving to work last night I listened to most of 2015 C-ute, reminding me how ambivalent I am about modern C-ute with some standouts like Urayanjau.

I forgot to set it back to random, so this morning it went on to most of 2009-2010 S/mileage, reminding me how much I still enjoy cutesy Tsunku. It also reminded me that without checking lyrics, there's a part of Suki-chan where I always think they're shouting "Shinigami!"

I really like her look. I don't know how to explain it but I feel like she's got a look that doesn't really describe anyone else in H!P at the moment.

Anyway, her, Karin and Musubu were on a tv-show. The other new CG member wasn't there because reasons, I suppose. I don't know the name and I don't think it's a very prominent show but Rikako was on it for a minute or so the same time last year, so maybe it's a New Year's thing?

And Idol New Year Summit 2016 aired. There's plenty of UFP idols there but as for H!P representatives it's Chisato, Angerme's Akari and Manaka. Yaguchi is also there.

With the way Karin has her hair done in this video, she looks like a poor man's Mayuyu. She was a cute kid, but I really feel she hasn't grown up to look very pretty. She pales in comparison to Moe.

I don't think Karin has grown up to be cute either but I think it's mostly because her features were cute when she was itty bitty and like 10, but now they're just sort of veering into uncanny valley territory on someone who, while still young, is more or less done growing.

Maachan's ability to shamelessly wallow in her own emotions is part of what makes her the only girl in this line-up that I don't find painfully boring.

Well-behaved girls are bland. I was just watching a few interviews from 2015 earlier tonight and musing that I would KILL to see any of these girls cut loose, because every single word out of their mouths sounded like it was painstakingly worded and re-written by some UFP PR person. Just, barely anything personal there.

Yup. This is one of the reasons I was excited for Ogata to join, but her wild side appears to have been successfully neutered by the company. Well-behaved works for some girls, but a group full of well-behaved is boring.
