I couldn't agree with you more. I honestly believe this was one of their worsts. The least they could have done was feature the graduates.
I've listened to the album a few times now and it's just not working for me. For much of it, I'm not sure I'd recognize it as Morning Musume if I didn't know ahead of time that it was. Only "Seishun Collection" really sounds like them, probably because it's so derivative of other songs they've done. As such, it stands out as the only relatively distinct song on the album. I'm not faulting their performances--the songs are just too damned generic.
Remember when their albums had pleasant surprises? Rainbow 7's "How Do You Like Japan," anyone? Or "Genki+" on Sexy 8? And, not so long ago, Platinum 9's "Take Off is Now!" and "Guruguru Jump"? And those are just off the top of my head. Their albums are generally fun to listen to. This one's a chore.
Oh, and I miss Koharu's screeching. At least there was personality at work there. Where's "Rainbow Pink" when you need it?
omg you forgot the electroconvulsive therapy <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
But you are right. This was a horrible album. I wanted solos for everyone. Instead, the usual suspects got them. I'm getting so sick of Reina it isn't funny. I hope ninth gen brings a strong singer and someone takes over her spot.

I thought Platinum 9's pleasant surprise was "SONGS" (actually mine was "Watashi no Nagasugiru Daimei ga Aru Uta" but I don't think that would be a popular choice). And I know you said "pleasant", but if only "Seishun Collection" sounded Morning Musumeish then surely the whole album was a surprise at least?
For the record my pleasant surprise was the close-to-consensus favorite "Fantasy ga Hajimaru", but it was quickly taken over by the synth and echoey responses of "I'm Lucky girl".

What's the first thing you do when you return home after a concert?

Yeah... late to post this, but my goodness this album is awful. I like one song (the Fantasy one I suppose). Sorry I don't have much insight. I agree with all the negative stuff that's been said. This album is just plain boring.

Yes, let's just categorize this new album as an "unpleasant" surprise.
