Buono - co no mi chi

Post by Milly »

Release data: 21th Jan

PV at Dohhhup

I like it <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I felt this deserved a mention as well. Buono feat Melon Kinenbi - Onegai Miwako Target performed live at a Melon Greeting event. AWESOME!

This is their worst single by far. Tsunku needs to not touch them, ever. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

I'm doubly disappointed because I liked each new single better than the previous one, which I liked a lot. But now my list of favorites goes Rottara, Gachinko, Kiss x3, Renai Rider, Honto no Jibun, and co no michi. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/hmph.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hmph:' />

(Edit: I edited the link in your post to Onegai Miwaku, it was messed up a bit.)

I don't like it for two reasons.

1) They fucked Miyabi over.

2) Whenever Tsunku attempts a rock-ish song, it turns out craptastic.

I still don't like Momoko as center.

Tsunku did this song? It still seems pretty Buono-y.

I don't like it a lot, but I said that about Kissx3, and it ended up growing on me a looot.

Not always. There's Koko ni Iruzee, and Yuujou, and Saa Sassoku, and, um... someone help me out here. D:

Well, he composed it. Some of the Buono regulars wrote the lyrics and did the arrangement, which is why it sounds like them but the overall structure and melodies suck. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

So that's why it sounds so weird! I hope this doesn't hurt their sales, they've been doing so well.

The PV was a bit much for me. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' /> The green screen stuff was more cheesy then cute.

Whaaaatever, I really like it <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' /> I didn't like it on my absolute first listen but probably from the second I was like "Wow, I really like this" and it took a lot longer for some of their other singles to grow on me xD

I liked this single a lot, actually- perhaps almost immediately upon hearing it. Its charm is its apparent schizophrenia for me. I'm not listening to the PV too much because I don't want to tire of it before the actual single is even released.

Unfortunately most of Buono's songs do not have a terribly long shelf life for me, and I want to get the most out of every release. My typical process of listening to a song over and over doesn't seem to work out too well for Buono for some reason. I go back and listen to them again some time later, and for some reason can't really dig up the same enthusiasm I had before.

Sometimes listening to songs without the PV might be what does that to me though, if I get too hooked to a song just based on its PV pre-release, perhaps.

Anyway! Rambling again! My concise review ending for this single: I like it and you all suck.

Maybe he meant like, when he attempts it nowadays, but even on Koolmon's part, I'll correct his previous statement and say that whenever Tsunku attempts a rock-ish song nowadays and in H!P that it turns out craptastic. Because the rock stuff he does for TNX is quite exceptional.

I actually like the PV a lot, but the song is just very disjointed. The transitions between the main parts of the song structure are very abrupt and don't flow very well, its extremely weird and very unlike their other stuff.

I kind of liked it... I seem like every other release by Buono!, at least more so than the odd-numbered releases. I like the unique melody of this song.

Though I found that turning up the volume to this song would hurt my ears...

Just curious. But is there a reason why it's 'cono michi' instead of 'kono michi' in the title? Can they use C instead of K? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Or is that just a thing to do?

It's a stylistic thing. Like, there is (was?) an artist, Asuca Hayashi. Normally you'd romanize it as Asuka, but she chose to have it done with a C. Also, there's a magazine called "Cawaii".

The Single V is coming this week. I always prefer the real thing to net vids.

There really are some odd key changes in this song. I love that about Tsunku, though, he's not afraid to write complex melody lines. Imagine hearing this song once or twice and then trying to karaoke it! More likely than not you'd get completely lost in the middle.

Still, even his most baroque, intricate melodies are quite catchy once you really get them. And sometimes the complexity just takes a great, poppy song to the pinnacle of awesomeness; I'm thinking of songs like I KNOW and I&YOU&I&YOU&I, which sort of shift chromatically all over the place but still deliver the goods.

Anyway, this one is a grower, but I likes.

I don't think they take a whole lot of "get"ting to really appreciate complex melody structures, but this song has definitely grown on me a little each time I listen to it, though its still not great. Tsunku can be quite the master of key changes, and honestly, most of the time, as long as the beat isn't changing with it, the more key changes, the better. Hell, look at Def. Diva's debut single; he even prided himself in his personal comments about the song on his website because it has 13 key changes in just that one song. I KNOW and I&YOU&I&YOU&I are also two of my favorite songs in H!P history as well.

Where do you think changing the beat went wrong for him? (I can't think of an example off hand.)

He kinda cheated on Suki Sugite Baka Mitai with the whole "keep transposing the chorus up several times" trick, though.

I wasn't exactly referring to Tsunku's work with that statement, I meant in a more general sense, when a beat gets changed abruptly with a key change, its more off-putting than it is pleasing to the ears like a standard key change. This song (co-no-mi-chi) actually has a bit of this, between the verses and chorus, and its what throws me off a little every time I listen to it.

Its not a trick, really, I think it's a legit songwriting technique and it works extremely well. And in between a few upward chorus transpositions, they'd have a downward shift in key for some of the instrumental breaks before going back up again. I likey.

The more you listen to this song, the more logical the beat progression is. I'm too tired to think straight right now, I may break it down later.
