I'm not a fan of After School but I really like Orange Caramel. Magic Girl has a really cute retro pop sound.

Well, it looks like we have another parallel to (well not MM, but) C-ute. http://www.hello-online.org/index.php?act=...&topic=1111

When hasn't a K-pop song sounded like something else? At least they do it better (and by that, I mean that's a pretty nice video they got going on.). ;D

I hear the similarities though, but I wouldn't call it full on plagiarism unless someone is hearing something completely different then what I'm hearing. I don't have the ear for tones. :x

I'd call AfterSchool the Morning Musume of Korea, they now have subgroups, so why not copy the H!P style to boot. ;D

4Minute will be releasing a Japanese version of I My Me Mine on July 28th. ;D I love that song, so I'm happy it will at least get a video.

That is all.

2. SNSD's Tell Me Your Wish, in English. Apparently this chick came in second place in Dutch Idol and then Sony Music Entertainment bought the rights to make a cover. It's actually... really good. Ah, the value of a good lyricist... It's not like the lyrics are particularly deep (at all...), but they actually fit and don't sound awkward as fuck, unlike the fanmade shitty English covers on YT.

OH MY GOD THIS SONG HAS JUST BEEN KILLED FOR ME

that is nothing what it's supposed to be

Everyone's making such a big fucking deal out of the ºC-ute/Orange Caramel thing.

Quoting what I wrote on May-Lyn's 'cos I gotta atleast contribute if I'm going to download all of their junk:

I can't hear any plagiarism there. So the songs "sound the same." I guess if that's the case, Morning Musume plagiarised "Seishun Collection" too, since it's so similar to "Genki Pikapikka" and "Nanchatte Renai."

But... it's literally the exact same song, with different lyrics <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hatthe.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' /> They ever so slightly messed with it in the chorus, added in a few effects and stuff.

You can't make an argument when using the same songs from the same group. If you picked a different from a different group and THEN compared it to a Morning Musume song, then you could make a perfectly logical argument. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' />

I attended the June 11 show of the Wonder Girls World Tour 2010 with 2PM in Houston, Texas. I finally decided to do a write up, i.e., my painstakingly detailed experience, since the second leg of their tour will begin today (June 25, 2010).

Prologue

Looking at the tour dates, the closest venue the Wonder Girls was performing was at the House of Blues Houston. This is actually about a six to seven hour drive from where I'm staying this summer. I asked a friend if he wanted to take a road trip. He agreed, and we bought regular tickets. (According to comments on Live Nation, the VIP tickets had been sold out a month before I even found out about the tour. The VIP tickets were a pricy $150 though.)

Early in the morning on June 11, we departed, had a fairly smooth drive to Houston, and arrived around 2 pm. We parked at a paid public parking lot right across the venue. It still had quite a few spots open, so we thought we were just incredibly early. I looked on my phone for a place to spend some time until a couple of hours before the show, and there was a shopping center a few blocks down the road. We went inside the House of Blues and saw it was a pretty small restaurant and bar with a small stage at the end. We both really thought this was where the concert was going to be held. Leaving the building, we just see a group of Asian girls running past us. My friend wanted to follow them just to see what they were up to, and right around the bend of the House of Blue entrance, there's a pair of escalators going up against the wall. We reach the third floor and find that there's already people lining up! We were both really surprised by this. We drove seven hours to see a concert, and we were pretty determined to get as close to the stage as we could. We decided to stand in line... for five hours.

A security guy comes up to us and asks if we had what was called a "pass the line" receipt. There were three lines: the VIP line who got to meet and greet the artists, take photos with them, and receive a "tour gift" (which ended up being a mini poster); the "pass the line" line for people who bought something from the House of Blues store; and a regular line, which started a floor below. We answer that we don't have such a receipt, and he directs to either go to company store and buy something or go down to the regular line. Like I mentioned before, we really wanted to get close to the stage, so we surrendered and went to buy something at the company store.

I go into the store to buy the cheapest item they have in stock. While I waited in line with my M&M's, I talked with a lady who worked there. She said that people have been lining up since 8 pm the day before, and she doesn't see that very often. This, again, amazed me. I really did not expect so many people to know about this concert (though I should have been prepared when I noticed tickets were sold out). When I get to the register, the guy checking me out says I need to spend at least $15. A little annoyed by then, I grabbed some House of Blues drum sticks that was right next to me and to add to the purchase.

We throw all the unnecessary and unwanted items into my car and head back up to the priority line. Being 3 pm by then, we only had 4 hours to go. It shouldn't be that bad. So we just wait and wait and wait some more. We were talking about the demographics of the line population. We both agreed that it had to have been at least 85% female and 90% Asian there.

Image

There was a time when a camera man came around to film the lines. We were pretty sure that it was for tour video. By the time he got around to us, I was looking pretty lame waving my Vitamin Water bottle at the camera. He stopped at my friend's chest. He was one of the few white people there, and he towered over everyone else. Remember that there were mostly short Asian girls here, so the camera man had to lift his camera up to get my friend in the shot. The camera man ends up asking if my friend is here for the Wonder Girls and asked him to say a message to them. That was exciting. So if you see a tall white guy wearing PucchiBest's white on black Medley shirt on some concert footage, do send a message my way.

There were a lot of people with custom shirts. Many rooting for both Wonder Girls and 2PM, and some, just 2PM. I asked a group of girls standing next to me in line who they were primary at the concert for, and they replied 2PM. This made me realize that many of the fans at this concert were here just for 2PM, making Wonder Girls an almost unwelcomed bonus to them.

Back to more waiting. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to sit for some reason. We had to lean against the wall most of the time. About an hour and a half before 7 pm, they made us move against the rail.

Image

The door of the venue is at the top left corner of the previous photo. The VIP line went rightward, and the "pass the line" line comes toward the camera. We were probably about 40 people back from the beginning of the line. You can see the regular line, which starts right underneath where I was standing, was already out of view, wrapping far back farther than I could see.

At 6 pm, the VIP started to go into the the venue to do the meet and greet, etc. Letting only a few people in at a time, there were extremely shrill screams every time the door would open. I prepared myself for the concert by putting on my earphones. Luckily, they isolate noise really well, which normalized the outside volume to something much more reasonable. Interesting enough, the VIP came right back out after they finished to get back in line. I would have expected them to just stay inside.

Finally, 7 pm arrived, and the people were allowed into the venue!

Main Event

Image

The VIP were allowed in first, and then the priority line, which we were in. Amazingly enough, the floor around the stage was not yet full, and we were pretty excited for getting so close. We were five or six feet from the stage. I suspect that most of the VIP went up to the balcony. It was good at first feeling the air conditioning after being outside for so long, but not long after, the floor became incredibly dense. People were pushing forward trying to get as close to the stage as possible, and the ambient temperature of the room just shot up. I looked at the time, and it was 7:10 pm, meaning the concert probably didn't start for another hour. So again, amongst all of the little Asian girls trying to push ahead and us trying to hold our ground, we stood for another hour.

Image Image

There was absolutely no room to move about. Everyone was really up on each other. I did have a backpack on, which I did get complaints for from the person behind me.

I saw a lot of people with cameras up in the air. I'm pretty sure when I ordered my tickets it said that cameras would not be allowed. I brought mine anyway incase I felt adventurous enough to sneak a couple of photos. After a while, I saw that it would be impossible to keep so many cameras down, and I kept mine out most of the concert.

The camera man from before filmed off the stage and started to make the crowd rowdy, creating false hope that the show was about to begin. This was about the time I decided to keep my earphones in for the remainder of the concert. With all of these people so close to my ear, their yells started to become a bit painful. I was talking to this guy next to me, and he thought I was a genius for wearing earphones. He wished he had brought some ear plugs, and I could see it from his facial expressions when people started to scream.

At 8 pm, music blasted through the speakers, and 2PM started their performance on stage with "Without U" (video clip). Personally, I have no idea who these guys are, but they were pretty good on stage, performing a lot acrobatic flips across the stage. I didn't know what songs they performed, but according to a friend, they performed three other songs: "Again & Again," "Heartbeat," and "I Hate You."

Image

There was a point during one of their songs, a couple of members of 2PM reached out to the crowd. At that very moment, the entire floor just compressed toward the front of the stage. It was absolutely amazing how that occurred having the floor be as dense as it was. By the time I realized what was going on, there was a good three feet of empty space in front of me. Again, holding our ground, my friend and I had to make sure we weren't pushed back when the crowd inflated.

2PM introduce themselves (video clip) after the fourth song. Two of the members seemed to have fairly good English. They then end their time on stage performing "10 Points Out of 10 Points." Despite all the fans pushing so much when 2PM was out, I was pretty impressed with the performances they put out. I mentioned that a lot of people here were pretty big 2PM fans, so the energy of the crowd during their performance was phenomenal. 2PM mention themselves that Houston is the first city they've been to on tour that the fans actually sang along with them, which is interesting since I'm pretty sure they sang all of their songs in Korean.

Image

After 2PM left the stage, the curtains closed. There was about a twenty minute intermission, waiting in a sea of hot and sweaty people. Luckily, the girl in front of me had the scent of strawberry-kiwi or watermelon in her hair that I kept catching. Not paying attention, the speakers started to blast the familiar tune of "I Wanna". The Wonder Girls were coming out on stage! All of the members were introduced via a silhouette dance behind a massive white canvas.

Image

This took me by surprise. Being on such a small stage, I wasn't expecting anything this spectacular. (Notice the amount of cameras in front of me; it was insane.) The canvas dropped, and there they were. Following them since their debut in 2007, I've only seen them on screen, but wow, it's a completely different experience seeing them on a stage in front of you. They put on some sunglasses and started performing an English version of "Good Bye." This was really cool because it's one of those times when you're used to listening to a song in one language and then you hear it sung in a different one.

Image

After the Wonder Girls threw their sunglasses off, they performed an English version of "So Hot" (video clip). When the song ended, they formally introduced themselves to the crowd, ending with each member walking off stage except Lim. Lim definitely speaks English really well compared to the other members. She asked the crowd what they think about each member, starting with, "We are all similar...", and some guy in the crowd yells, "You're all Asian!", which my friend and I thought was pretty funny at the moment. Most of the answers yelled out were "she's hot" and "she's cute". She mentions that since they're in America, each member wanted to sing a song that was familiar to the crowd.

Lim started with Lil Mama's "Lip Gloss." This song was unfamiliar to me, but this proved to be a excellent transition from the talk by using the lyrics of the song. Yubin performed The Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" (video clip). By this time, my friend and I were just laughing. These English songs were so unexpected. Next Yenny performed Duffy's "Mercy" (video clip), Sohee with Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" (video clip), and finally Sun with Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" (video clip).

Image

At one point, they all collectively sang two more English songs by The Pussycat Dolls: "Don't Cha" and "Stickwitu".

Image

The concert actually slowed down after this. There was another talk while the stage crew set up for the next song. A grand piano was rolled out onto the stage. One of the girls said that she wanted to say something, but she didn't know how to put it in English. She asked the crowd if they knew Korean, and everyone just roared, meaning that there must be a lot of people who could understand it. She proceeded to speak for a minute in Korean. My friend and I had no idea what she was talking about.

Their next song was "Saying I Love You," a piece that was written by Yenny herself. She played the piano (points for her) while something was being blasted above the stage that looked like snow. I am almost sure that what was being thrown into the air to emulate snow was ice shavings. There was absolutely no confetti or something of the sort after everyone dispersed after the show.

Image

They proceeded with another low tempo song, "Nobody (Rainstone Remix)."

Image Image

The Wonder Girls then all left the stage, leaving only the projection screen behind. The lights were dimmed and the music video for "2 Different Tears" was played for the crowd. It's an entertaining video, but a disgruntled fan yelled out, "I can watch that on YouTube!" I'm pretty sure it was the same guy from before. After the video finished, the Wonder Girls returned in their outfits from the video to reperform the song to the crowd. A good way to A/B compare the member's vocal abilities I guess.

Image

The girls told the crowd that it was near the end of the show and asked what song they should perform last. The crowd guessed what was next, which was the English version of their debut song "Tell Me" (video clip).

To my dismay, the Wonder Girls did indeed walk off stage after that song, but the crowd wanted more. Everyone started to chant for an encore. Text appeared on the screen on stage telling the crowd to yell for their return. After about three or four minutes of the text playing with the crowd, the Wonder Girls returned to the stage with the outfits similar to the ones they wore in their "Nobody" music video, and indeed, they were saving the best for last.

Image

The crowd was pretty pumped during the performance of "Nobody," clapping and singing along, but it was time for the end, and the Wonder Girls said their goodbyes and walked off stage for good.

Image Image

It was interesting to see that 2PM didn't return at the end. They must have gotten away while all of the rabid fangirls were distracted by the Wonder Girls.

The lights in the venue were turned back on to their fullest, and the crowd started to break apart. My friend and I pushed our way to where the concert goods were being sold, and I ended up getting the tour CD, and my friend purchased a poster and keychain. We walked across the floor to see three security guys standing in front of the stage either to keep people moving or to prevent people jumping onto the stage and running toward the Wonder Girls.

Conclusion

It was a long day after a seven hour drive and six hour wait, but to me, it was totally worth it. This was the first concert I have attended, and even though it was rowdier than I expected, I really enjoyed the entire show. I will definitely remember to bring ear plugs or noise isolating earphones to future concerts. They make the high outside volume seem almost normal to the ear.

I didn't take an excessive amount of photos or full videos because I was much more interested in watching the stage than staring at my camera to see if the picture is in frame or focused or not.

Both Yenny and Yubin commented on their Twitter accounts about Houston, which is pretty neat knowing I was there.

I love concert reviews~ <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' /> I could never phsyically go to a concert like that. I hate crowds. x_x

Anyway, You know there's a thread for the Wonder Girls Tour right? You didn't have to post the review in the catch-all kpop thread. Heh

Ang, the lyrics are different. That's what's ruined the song for me. I liked the Korean lyrics better.

I've already been told this. But the fact of the matter, and the point I was trying to make, is songs sound similar all the time. No need to get all butthurt and OMG THEY PLAGARISED IT about it.

New Super Junior song from their repackage. Actually, several new songs, but one's a remix and the other one, All My Heart, is good but I don't have a cool story about it (except it was composed by Eeteuk and Henry - oldest and youngest, one used to kind of... invalidate the other's existence as part of the band before growing half a brain, etc.)

A Short Journey. The song itself is pleasant and pretty, but... well, for those of you who know Super Junior, one of the members, Kangin, is entering the army for 2 years in just a few days. So, as sort of a send-off gift, the other members more or less gave him this song. It was composed by Donghae, written by Eunhyuk, and it's Kangin's husky voice that you hear through the verses. I happen to kind of be in love with Kangin, he's been my favorite member for 3 years, and his voice sounds splendid here. It's quite poignant. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' />

The song they performed on Music Bank, called No Other! IT'S ADORABLE. It's very evocative of, you know, current Top 40 junk with the electro-R&B-pop-thing, but somehow it's much... cuter. Less GET INTO BED WITH ME, more HOLD MY HAND PLEASE? More importantly, they just can't stop smiling. At least check it out for the cuteness? It's a nice departure from the whole abs-and-grunge-beastly-idol-thing.

blahblahblah OH AND KAT-TUN WAS ON MNET COUNTDOWN. IT WAS FUNNY. The thing is, most Korean boybands get a hell of a lot of vocal training and are somewhere between fantastic and decent singers by the time they debut, and ditto dancing, seeing as most of their performances are highly choreographed. KAT-TUN... ehehehehe not so much. Well, there is a heavy dosage of auto-tune in their new song, which... kind of saved them... dunno what Korean reaction was to them yet.

To catch you up, I ripped this from the Wiki! ;D

In August 2010, Girls' Generation will start promotion in Japan beginning on August 11 with the DVD release "少女時代到来~初来日記念盤~" (Girls' Generation's Arrival ~ First Time in Japan Commemoration Disc ~) which will feature seven hit music videos and bonus footage. Their great debut event will take place at the Tokyo Ariake Coliseum on August 25. This is the greatest debut from any Korean artist coming to Japan with 10,000 fans invited. Having signed a contract this past May, Girls' Generation will be working under Universal Music Japan's record label Nayutawave Records for their Japan promotions and they are planning to release their debut single in September 2010.

Here is their official Japanese Website.

The videos that are going to be on the DVD are as follows.

・Genie

・Gee

・Oh!

・Run Devil Run

・Into The New World

・Girls' Generation

・Kissing You

And in 4Minute news, I'm super happy that I My Me Mine is getting a Music Video and that they are performing it. But considering they are using it for their Japanese debut, it's no surprise they'd make a Korean version. I'd like to go back in time and wish they would have released something for Funny, I loved that song. D:

We got yet another girl group trying to break out, Girl's Day released their first song, Tilt my Head.

Think they'll make it, or disappear into the unknown after this?

They came out with a Twitter, International Fan Forum? and a YouTube Channel. So at least their company is trying, but I think they just sound like every other group out there.

And on top of that... they look young compared to the other girl groups out there, or it might be just that one girl. I swear she looks like she's 12.

I don't know why they decided that autotune was a good thing. From some of the videos I've seen of the girls (Not just this one, but others) performing live other songs, they don't need it.

I like it too, I just wish JYP would keep it mouth out of the songs. It's really annoying, kinda like Tsunku annoying. (Thankfully he hasn't been in any H!P songs lately, and I hope it stays that way.)

BTW Full PV for 4Minutes I MY ME MINE is out. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

They are going to be on Music Japan with AKB48, Perfume AND S/mileage. Should be an interesting thing to see.

DIE IN A FIRE (It feels so nostalgic using this here) YOU AUTOTUNE PIECE OF SHIT !!! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... dammit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

[/quote]

Watched them on Music Bank (which Super Junior won YESSSSSS) yesterday. I... they were... not good. Like, the auto-tune didn't even help. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> They're cute, but...

Miss A, on the other hand, is very promising. Excellent dancers, nice surprisingly deep voices, legs legs legs... kind of like a tall, stripped-down, not-over-hyped 2NE1. It's interesting, though - they sing like 2PM, as well. think Jia (pink hair girl? I think I got her name right)'s lines that aren't in the beginning are sung very... 2PM-esque, a bit choppy and breathy, but it's a necessity given the dance. Compare that to the first verse of Again & Again and you'll get what I mean, I think.

When a Korean group decides to go into the Japanese market, are they still considered K-pop?

Anyway, 4Minute released their Japanese version of I My Me Mine

I'll reserve judgment till I see them perform live.

Short haired one on the far left in the beginning of the video looks like T.O.P.'s bastard child. XD

And I think they are technically still considered K-pop?

Except for Tohoshinki. Most of their stuff was released in Japan but they were out of Korea (if they ever released anything in Korean, I missed it), so I have no clue what to call that.

I'm not sure if this was a rethorical question or you wanted to spark a serious discussion about it.

Anyway, imho the K/J to me is where it is produced.

E.g. JunJun and LinLin are J-Pop singers to me.

So, if the japanese version is based on a korean song and produced by Koreans, it's still K-Pop to me.

Nah it was rhetorical. But I did kinda want to hear other peoples take on the subject. ;D

If I'm misreading your sentence, forgive me, I've been awake since 1 AM, LOL <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> but Tohoshinki DEFINITELY released things in Korean - though under the name DBSK, and it was in Korea. Dunno if they ever released any Korean singles in Japan, though. They debuted in '03 in Korea and didn't debut in Japan until '05.

Am well aware of that, but they did more things in Japanese that I know of. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' /> I never really saw many downloads/single news for Korean singles they were releasing, only Japanese.

That's okay. XD I was being a little vague now that I reread my post.

IIRC that's because Korea tends to follow the album->single release flow (like in America) rather than the single->album flow of Japan.

That really depends on what artist/company. After School has released 3 singles and no albums with two digital singles in that time span as well. SNSD on the other hand, It was like Gee and Genie were like singles instead of mini-albums that led up to the album Oh! Then they repackaged with Run Devil Run. I also know 4minute did promote I My Me Mine after Huh so that might be what you are talking about. I get kinda confused with Kpop and their way of releasing stuff. 2 tracks on a Cd is called a mini-album whereas 3 tracks on a Cd is called a single with another artist. I... Don't know what I'm saying.

Well, then, I suppose I meant to aim my post in the scope of HomoTohoshinki since they were brought up earlier, but I don't know a whole lot of their history to be any sort of expert on the matter.

I forgot Kara was releasing in Japan also this month. They decided to go with Mr. I think they should have picked something else but meh. It's okay, but I think it loses something when it got translated.
