J Drama

Post by mrip »

I've been watching the drama LIFE, which is based on the manga series and I can't help but notice that the girls look awfully similar to H!P girls or it might be cuz I've been catching up on some concerts in the past few weeks.

Image

It looks like Maimi, Risako, Miyabi, Risa, Saki to me. There is also a girl that looks like a younger Kaori.

info + downloads

Pretty good trashy shoujo drama with an awesome soundtrack.

Can I also just write "any such show is utter mindless bullshit and has no entertainment value whatsoever" ?

The picture looks like this to me:

Momoko, ???, Miyabi, JunJun, some kind of mixture between kumai yurina (who I actually like) and saki shimizu.

Nothing really looks too enticing this season, so I'm just gonna sit out and maybe wait til next one. I did, however, watch all of Innocent Love and Ryusei no Kizuna last week. Innocent Love was good until they took it overboard with the last ep. Ryusei no Kizuna was absolutely solid in all aspects. Like IWGP, it had the perfect mix of drama, mystery, and comedy. I DL'ed all of "Last Friends" but I have yet to start it.

I'm mixed about how I feel this season. On one hand, i'm very excited because i consider Akai Ito to be part of the winter season, since it started in December and took a 2 week break after the movie was released. And I really am enjoying this drama.

But on the other hand, only a few other dramas really stand out to me. Love Shuffle seems good, but I'm waiting for subs to go up for it before i watch it. I already watch Akai Ito without subs and I'm lazy. I also have Uta no Oniisan downloaded but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Voice is really good so far. Eita is a good actor in it. Something about it doesn't really grab me though.. i prefer human dramas to a plot that's more centered on medicine or law. I cried this episode though, with the whole plot where the husband who couldn't do anything gracefully and was quiet was dying and in pain still did his best to try and make his beloved wife french toast like in their favorite movie to try and make up with her.

And yeah, RnK was really, really solid. It felt a lot shorter than the 11 or so episodes it ended up being. I'm still sad that it ended up being the detective. He was my favorite. Last Friends is hit or miss depending on your taste. Even though I really like dark dramas, i found that one to be overboard on the melodrama scale.

I've heard the other ones are good too but I don't know how many I can keep up with at one time

My max seems to be three.

Re: end of Ryusei no Kizuna

I was surpised by the ending. I was always wondering why they were hinting at the detective's dead son. It led you to believe that the detective lost his son, and the kids lost their parents, so he kind of took them as his own. But of course it was more sinister than that.

BTW, in that drama WTF was with Nakashima Mika's character?! It was damn hilarious! It reminded me of a random "Densha Otoko" character thrown in purely for comic relief. I like how she kept calling him "Axel" and he's like "Who the hell is Axel?!"

RnK: I began to suspect the detective at the end as well, but mostly because I knew it had to be someone we didn't suspect, and there were only so many options.

Maybe it's just me, but I was really liking it and then suddenly I realized there was only 2 episodes left. I kept wishing there was a little bit left.

I was pretty shocked that they had Hayashi-rice dude help the kids out, however. I was expecting this dramatic "How could you lie to me? You don't love me!" scene, which would eventually cut to an awkward "Sorry about that, uh...maybe one day we can be friends?" and an up-in-the-air ending. So I guess that was nice. I liked the character of Shizuna.

Nothing this season particularly jumped out at me. I'm kind of in the position where, if it will be streamed online, I might watch it, but I'm not going out of my way to download any of the dramas. However, depending on what I think of Love Shuffle, I may download that one. It was the only one that seemed fairly good, but I haven't watched it yet.

Uta no Onii-chan surprised me. It's a lot better than I expected. I had no idea what it was about going into it. (I thought it might be some sort of super hero thing even.) Ohno's acting is pretty good so far. I think he's better at comedic acting. (Even though his character is completely dull-zo so far.)

I gave Mei-chan no Shitsuji a try, just because I really like Eikura Nana and Mizushima Hiro...but it's pretty cheesy. That's what you get for a drama based off of a manga, I guess. It gives me the impression that they're trying to make this Hana-Kimi 2, with all the good looking guys, and true, they are good looking, but the humor isn't there. The one plus about it is the ending song, however. I'm really digging it right now. (My SunShine by Rock'a'trench)

Also, side note, I've watched the first three episodes of the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango but...eh. Not such a huge fan. Maybe it's because I really liked the Japanese version, but this one seems so...stiff. Rui especially. (I'm not going to attempt their Korean character names.) Domyouji isn't too bad, but the whole idiot thing isn't coming across too well.

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Love Shuffle, but I haven't really gotten into anything else this season. I tried watching the first few episodes of Voice, Q.E.D., and Mei-chan no Shitsuji, but I haven't made watching commitments to any of them yet. Last season I enjoyed Innocent Love and Celeb to Binbo Taro.

This is my pick for drama of the season Daigo is so cute in this and just makes me laugh with everything he says, I think it's just how he says it. He sounds so naive and innocent <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... Anyone liked Bloody Monday? I'm almost done, and I like it so far. The "hacking" is still very TV-ish, but at least it attempts to look legit. I laughed at the blatant HP sponsorship.

I bawled like a baby at the first episode of Voice. I also laughed my ass off at "It kept me from going to jail." I like it. And I don't know if I can keep watching it ahhhh I cried so much. I'm such a sissy. xD

*toes ground* Korean incarnation of Boys Over Flowers.

It's... more dramatic, I think, and not as much physical comedy as the Japanese one.

Oh, and the... MatsuJun's character? ditched the curly hair after six episodes. The Korean guy playing MatsuJun's character looks much better with straight hair, but yet the HYD purist in me wants it to still be curly... ah, well. I could practically write a thesis paper on analyzing and contrasting the similarities and differences and inferring cultural reasons and..

I just watched the first 4 episodes of Voice - it's ok.

I find Eita's character really aggravating. He's got two personalities, one minute he's incredibly annoying and silly and then he's all serious and empathetic. Is he supposed to some kind of quirky genius - because it's just coming off as annoying to me.

I don't like it when he just miraculously comes to a conclusion of how and why the person died and rushes off the tell the family member.

I really like the Korean version of HYD and the Japanese version. But, imo, I think the guy who plays Jun Pyo (Tsukasa) has acting really well and does a better of MatsuJun. I love Jun to death but I envisioned Tsukasa's character as the one closely to Jun Pyo's character. I haven't seen Meteor Garden yet, is it any good?

Most people [who don't have a MatsuJun bias] I've talked to seem to agree with you. K-Dramas tend to be super srs, so fittingly BOF is more of a serious adaptation? MatsuJun is a riot, but HYD was a lot more... crazy? I can't explain it..

Meteor Garden is... Taiwanese. By which I mean it has pretty bad production values, haha, but.. I can't judge, I've only watched like five minutes of it, but I've heard it's not bad.. I think it's leaning more towards the Japanese HYD in the overall tone, but I think it's also pretty loyal to the manga? I dunno, this is just what I've heard.

I wish K-Dramas weren't so srs bzness, I've yet to find one like Nobuta wo Produce (my favorite ever) that's more light-hearted/comedic and not centered entirely on a ~love story~.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a drama like Nobuta? Japanese, Korean, whatever, I just am so tired of the standard romance format.

I think that the Japanese Version is alot eviler and alot of violence. The Korean is more coemdy i like it that way. And the plot develops more also. And the characters are such eye candy.

Oh boy are they eye candy. The HYD cast became cute to me after watching, but they had to grow on me. The Korean boys are BAM, insta hotness. I love Kim Bum. And the character who plays Akira (I forget the name and dramawiki is down) but he's barely been in it yet.

Otherwise I think this season is really lame. Although I like Akai Ito, but I classify that as a winter drama.

It's been so long since Nobuta (lol 3 1/2 years), I can't remember the tone exactly, but for other comedic dramas maybe try Stand Up!!. I also liked Brother Beat and Kiken na Aneki from the same season as Nobuta. I think both had a fair amount of love story going on, but enough comedy/other drama to mix it up. You might also like Yamada Taro Monogatari, and the currently running Uta no Oniisan and Love Shuffle. Since the last two are still on, I can't tell if they're going to go totally love story eventually, but so far they have a lot of other stuff going on.

I'll second Stand Up! as a good comedy. One of my favourites although tracking down a decent rip/sub is a pain.

Actually does anyone know where I can find Stand Up!? I'm pretty sure my copy is shot to hell with errors and shit. I got it from D-addicts a long while ago.

For now, I really really love Love Shuffle. Also, I've been really warming up to the drama Akai Ito (which is the pics on Pi Kago's avatar and sig). I just got done finishing episode 4 and my jaw dropped because I really didn't expect Sara to jump off the building.
