Lon Q! Highland in DS: Puu Puu Seijin Arawareru!

It's a crazy game show based on challenging word games.

One game is an image shiritori. You have about 5 or 6 on screen and you have to touch 3 that connect in order.

Another is a 3 character game where you are given a middle character and you have to make a real word out of the characters given.

There's a slot machine game where you're given a set of symbols or numbers, for example: [8|3|2] =Hachimitsu. and they give you a clue about if it's an animal, a place or a food, etc. That was the easiest example, most are trickier.

There's a bunch of others but my favorites are the Jankenpon game where you have to either win lose or tie when they tell you, the drumming game where you hear a word and you make your character clap or hit the drum. The action is decided by if it's a ト or ド, ホ or ポ etc.

Also, the alien game where you have to listen to a word that is said between the sound PU.

like PUmuPUsuPUme = musume, but they say it pretty quickly and you only have so much time to press the correct characters. This is sort of the boss stage. I wish they would have done the Darth Vader intro in the game. Pu pu pupupu

I didn't say that. It's a dating simulation, but the gameplay looks a lot more deep/complicated than the floods typical dating simulation games they've been pumping out since Tokimeki Memorial was released.

There are tons of amazing "anime games" that are story-driven. Ever played the Persona series? Disgaea? The Tales series? Visual novels? Better yet, tell me these fun non-story-driven anime games you've been playing.

I don't really play H-games, but I can only imagine that the non visual novel ones are just like, Artificial Girl and stuff?

Those were the games I meant, where you just click through dialogue after dialogue and do basically nothing else, not real RPGs like Persona with some anime/manga-style drawings.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough, sorry.

Ah, in that case, I don't think this game is much like that. I haven't played it yet, but it seems to be a lot more interactive than your typical Tokimeki Memorial ripoff.

Visual novels, when done right, are basically RPGs without the tedious grinding. One could even argue they are a more pure experience than RPGs. RPGs are basically a story intersected with "gameplay" that takes no skill, only time. (Though I personally would disagree, I think RPG gameplay does take skill, and depending on how you play it you can get different kind of experiences.)

A lot of VNs deliver stories that would be almost completely impossible to pull off in any other game genre, including RPGs, and Persona is actually a really good example of just that. A story like the one in P3 or P4 would never fly in a Visual Novel because it's way too slow-paced.

I always like to point to ever17 as one of the best examples of a visual novel that would be almost impossible to convert into any other type of game. Give it a try, it's absolutely fantastic. (Of course, dating games are a different story, I haven't really played any of those... But I'm interested in Love Plus!)

And speaking of visual novels, I'm playing Time Hollow on the DS, which is thoroughly excellent so far. It's basically Phoenix Wright, except it's just the "research" parts of it, no court capers, and it's generally a bit more serious I guess. It comes with a pretty surreal storyline about time travel.

EDIT: oh yeah I forgot about Sakura Taisen!

I heard some company was localizing one of the games in the series, but it looks to be the not-so-good last one set in the US.

For me, exploring is always the most fun part in RPGs and, in case of japanese rpgs, the fighting system.

The Gothic games for example have a story where basically nothing happens for 40 hours until you're at the final boss, but exploring the cities and landscapes is sooo fun.

That's also what I love about MMOs (expecially EQ2) the most; just walking around and finding new areas I've never been before and maybe trying to battle some mobs that are several levels above me.

I don't play games where you have to grind though, so all the generic asia-grinders (online and offline), I'd never even touch. =P

I quite literally can't think of any game that has a better story than ever17, it's pretty amazing. However, have you played True Remembrance? The art isn't great, but the story is really interesting. And it's free!

Anyone getting Halo ODST? <insert your rant on how stupid halo is bla bla bla> Like I said on the other thread, I'm getting it Tuesday. I have a dentist appointment at 1pm with my mom, so I'm picking it up after that. If my mom doesn't want to do shopping over there, then I probably should be home by 3:30pm - 4:30pm (all times are CENTRAL) depending on traffic and such. When I get on, I want to play with some of you. Anyone up for that? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... smooch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':riot:' /> I'm up for campaign or just straight-up multiplayer. I'll try to add all of you that posted on the other thread. Feel free to send me a game request if you see me doing nothing on the 360. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... deways.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I wonder if any of my mics work...

And, no, I refuse to pay full price for the glorified DLC that is ODST. If I can get it for 20 bucks eventually, I will, but since I dislike non co-op multiplayer and the story mode is only like 5 hours, I'll pass until then.

Unfortunately I highly doubt the price for ODST will be dropping anytime soon. Halo 3 stayed above $50 for over 2 years. And its still $40 used.

And yeah, I got it, its pretty fun, but some people may not be willing to drop the money for it. I'm enjoying it and looking for people to play Firefight mode with.

Zombie Apocalypse by Konami. Lately I'm lovin' the PSN store & all the great smaller games it's getting. It's so much easier to justify four or five $10 games bought online over a few weeks than it is to pay $60 for one new game at a store. Plus it gives developers the venue to try out different things without having to worry about the full costs of making & distributing a traditional disc-based game.

ANYWAY... Zombie Apocalypse. Basically Smash T.V. with a kind of Reloaded (PS1) feel. And a minigun powerup! Well worth the $10.

This game is beyond mediocre, especially compared to some of the other downloadable games that have hit Xbox Live Arcade, and that may be part of it, because there are already too many games just like this on the marketplace that do the exact same thing, just a little better.

I just finished everything there is to do in Halo 3 and still have some things left to do in ODST, and just finally found Nanostray 2 for DS the other day, so I should start playing it soon, I just need to find the damn DS charger..

Also, on the front of XBLA, it will at least be getting temporarily better this week, since Puzzle Bobble is coming out for Live Arcade. I'm fucking psyched, as long as the game is colorblind-friendly, otherwise Taito is getting some hatemail pretty soon...

Ghibli game FUCK YEAH!

And new Ace Attorney game in February! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /dance.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Video 1, Video 2.

Remix 6 of Rhythm Heaven is kicking my ass for the last 3 days. This is the first stage that took me more than 3 tries to pass. And I hope this is the last stage, because if the difficulty increases any more it will be beyond what I can be bothered with and I will ditch the game and never finish it. Which I would hate to do after all that time.

I have also finished the main storyline of the Chinatown Wars. I guess I hoped for the ending to be somewhat more epic? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... unsure.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='=3=' /> Still it was great for the first GTA I have properly played. I'm only at 60% now, so I'm gonna indulge in some mindless violence before maxing it out. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... laster.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Ghibli game FUCK YEAH!

And new Ace Attorney game in February! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /dance.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Video 1, Video 2.
Awesome news. Hopefully the Ni no Kuni's actual gameplay is good. The trailer didn't show much. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Looks nice, though.

And fiiiiinally a release date on the Edgeworth game. I really wish they would translate Ace Attorney games alongside developing them. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='=3=' />

I should follow TGS.

I too plan to buy a PS3 in Q1 next year, as I would never ever buy a microsoft console.

I really don't want to miss the possibly best game this generation (The Last Guardian) and some of the other games that don't make it to the PC.
