So yay for H!P doing so well (Especially Koharu. Holy shit.), but can someone fucking tell me how any straight man can find Hamasaki Ayumi attractive in any sense? And not even "oh she's pretty", but in the "I want to date her" sense. I don't get it.

Of all the people on that list, she seems like the best marriage material. BTW, #6 is Kaori Mochida, the lead singer of ELT, and #14 is Aragaki Yui (the actress).

At first I didn't understand what my fault was, but then I understood that it is in reference to the use of kawaii (=cute) and sugoi (=cool). I had read the rule, but somehow I still thought that is was OK to use these type of words. Maybe I'm more familiar with the language than I thought. I'll focus on the English then.

It's not about being familiar with Japanese, many people here are native Japanese speakers (or have great skills). It's about not being annoying.

she can be pretty amusing in interviews sometimes but I don't really see it either. Koda Kumi fell a far way down that list. I'm surprised that Nagasawa Masami didn't break the top 20.

Takahiro and Domoto Koichi are my husbands. I'm sort of surprised Koichi made it that far up given that the KinKi Kids aren't really.. kids anymore. And wait, people actually know who Massu is? ...and want to date him?



The best part of tha male list: 15 year old Yamada Ryosuke made it to #14. He probably scored well with that prized 7-10 demographic and then again with the creepy 30-50 demographic.

I think it's funny though because at least one of my 1st year (middle school) classes has no idea who Ayu is. There was an exercise in the book that used her as an example and the kids had NO idea. NO ONE in the class had heard of her. We didn't even bother in the other two classes. And in my 2nd year classes we are doing comparisons and superlatives so I asked "Who do you like better, Hamasaki Ayumi, or Koda Kumi?" The kid I was asking was like I HATE BOTH! Then the teacher's like who likes Hamasaki Ayumi? No one. Then Who likes Koda Kumi? Like...two girls. I found that interesting.

These poll results make me really curious about the people they polled - what age range was it, what type of people would have seen this poll, etc. I know that a lot of times when these things come around, the JE fans will post them everyone asking people to vote for so-and-so, so I wouldn't be surprised if the MM wota had done the same thing to make Takahashi, Reina, and Koharu so high. That's really the only way I can see Tegoshi and Masu being on there XD The male list is just weird in general - Jin-Kame-Yamapi being the top three seems very 2005. As gross as Yamada Ryousuke being on there is, it's at least not surprising since he's gained a lot of popularity recently. As for the girl list, I really have a hard time seeing Takahashi being so well liked. Not that I personally dislike her, but her drama is tanking so it's hard to imagine she has a bunch of non-wota fans.

Tallgeese, at my school it's ALL about Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen (or however many Es there are supposed to be) and Exile. Also Johnny's seem to be more popular than any female artists. Maybe Girl Next Door, but honestly Greeeeeeen and Exile are all I ever hear them REALLY talk about, and I notice Johnny's accessories on their, well, everything including some of the guys. Actors haven't really come up though.

You have to remember that this is a "who I want to date" poll, not "who's your favorite singer," and I assume most of the voters are males. Do you really find it that impossible for the average Japanese male to find Takahashi or Reina more attractive than like, BoA?

I think the disbelief comes more from the fact that the average Japanese person doesn't even know who Takahashi and Reina are. The current lineup of MM is pretty much an enigma to a lot of people (I don't mean remembering who's graduated and who hasn't, I just mean simple name recognition).

YES!! I'd be only slightly more confused if the poll included 3 of the nameless AKB girls or 3 of those idolling things. Boa is a superstar. I don't know if the name "Tanaka Reina" immediately comes to mind when one is asked to choose the cutest singer. Most likely, this poll had pre-selected options from which to order 1-20. Something like that.
