Tomodachi Collection

Post by Pucchi-Mo »

*Producer's note: I decided to free Mano from Ongaku Gatas (the What are you playing thread) and give her a solo career (this thread). I moved it because I plan to add pictures.

I just got Tomodachi Collection. I'd say it's more like a DS complex virtual pet (with Miis) than an Animal Crossing type of experience, since you don't control a player, but a lot of the enjoyment comes from how creative you can get with what they give you. It's not exactly "The Sims", but I guess the personality and character editing are similar ideas.

So you get a tiny island and you need to make the first person to live in the apartment.

My island has a pretty damn close version of Base Ball Bear. I started out with the lead singer, and he was sad & lonely, so I created Eve, err Shiori, and so on.

I tweaked their voices and speech patterns, gave them appropriate ages, birthdays, & blood-types. I didn't understand the specifics of personality traits, but I made them all different, & they are somehow still compatible.

Shohei just farted!

You basically just try to keep them happy, get them to make friends & fall in love. You can give them items and when their satisfaction meters go up, you get money. After a level is filled, you get to select one form of entertainment to give them. (song melodies for karaoke -with lyrics that you can customize, electronics, books, new interiors, etc) I don't fully remember the lyrics I made for Koide's JPOP song, but it contained "rainbow Wii" & "ROCK-ON MAMA". You edit a default song and can choose from a list for each word, it's cool because you can make things rhyme.

They're all asleep, so activity is very limited late at night <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/perv.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> . I know you can go into their dreams if the "Yume" kanji appears in their bubble. *I clicked on Koide's face while he was sleeping, and I got to this screen that has a bunch of colorful markers..

THEY WANT ME TO DRAW ON HIS FACE WHILE HE'S ASLEEP!! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I'm laughing hysterically because I just made him look like the member from KISS who has cat makeup.

I'm gonna try to make Morning Musume...

I don't have the money to support the H!P girls in this yet, but I'll post pictures when I do make H!P members.

I can already see why Tsunku loved playing Tomodachi Collection.

A new shop was built that tells fortunes and it told me that Koide was going to be a guitarist. SPOT ON!

I feel bad, I told Koide not to confess his love to Shiori and he got depressed.

However, an hour ago, Shiori told me that she was in love with him, so I told her to go for it. They have 100% compatibility, damn.

NO PREGNANT BASSIST PLEASE. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... unsure.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Ever since I saw this on Kaori's blog, I've been really really interested in the game so thanks for your review. Is it out with a US version or are you playing with the Japanese version? What do you mean by, you don't have the money to support the H!P girls? Are you talking about virtual money (like you have to play to earn money) or do you actually have to pay money to get more characters?

There is unfortunately no English version. I'm answering for Pucchi, but only because he was telling me about the game earlier~ He was talking about virtual money and you have to feed and keep them happy!

Pucchi, this was your awesome song:

Wo Wo Ki-re-i. Rainbow Wii

Onna noko GO! Daisuki dayo

ROCK ON MAMA, fu-fu-fu Fukuoka

Kimochiwarui ni

Bye Bye-ii Lullabye-ii

Thanks EmEl, this is correct.

Actually, there is word of a DS title called "Friend Collection", but no release date yet.

It's only proper that Jrock & Jpop inspired Miis speak Japanese anyway.

Unlike Animal Crossing & Sims, this has actual speech and you can influence what they say.

I don't know the full extent of their vocabulary, but it seems like they'll learn more things over time.

Yes, I meant the in-game money. All good actions toward the friends will lead to earning bits of money to spend on gifts. After some actions, like scratching their backs in the perfect spot, they'll even give you a present, usually something like medicine, or soap and a towel to take to the bath.

It's also tricky because sometimes they'll respond negatively to your gift.

I'm definitely not trying my luck with 9 Kimagure Princesses. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I don't suppose it's playable at all if you don't know Japanese? It sounds really interesting but I'm not ready to import it if it's going to be impossible.

Ok I know this is a dumb question that I should already know the answer to, buut... how do regions work with the Wii? Is it region locked? Is there some way to modify it like the PS?

I don't consider myself to be someone who knows a ton of Japanese, but there's a fair amount of kanji in some menus, so it could cause a problem for some. You have to give them advice by pressing the button of the option you want, I don't know if it's lenient or if I was just lucky. It definitely wouldn't be "impossible" to play, but it could be frustrating. Though trial and error would fix that, and the majority of the game has some sort of visual along with the text.

If you have one of those carts to play downloaded games, try it out that way first. (actually, there might be a DS emulator for PC, that would probably be the easiest preview for anyone interested but uncertain)

I saw the game for about $40 at a few places, that's medium range for an import DS game.

Playasia link$40

Yesasia has it for $45, I won't even bother with a link.

I've never even heard of AmiAmi, but 2,970yen sounds good.

Wait, shipping costs might make it similar in total price to the other sites.

It's hard to tell because the examples mention figurines and not games since that's the site's focus.

AmiAmi link

It's located in Japan, but they have an English FAQ. They only accept yen, but through paypal you can convert your money. They say some things only ship within Japan, but hopefully this will ship overseas.

For me, any command in the game that I didn't really understand, kind of became clear after selecting it and seeing what it did. Most of the game has a visual cue, and if you can remember the kanji in whatever they request, you pretty much just match that to what is in your inventory. I think I saw some site a while ago that translated the menus, but I can't find it... Maybe after I figure it all out, I can explain it to everyone.

This preview site explains things a little, the best so far.

On my island, a stadium game just opened. There are 2 sides, and you draw or write 2 different things and see which side your apartment inhabitants will choose. For example: draw a cat or dog, ocean or mountains..

The very best moment was when I wrote AKB48 vs H!P, and EVERYONE instantly flocked to the H!P side. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /lmfao.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

That was the first time they all agreed, so that made it even funnier.

JUST KIDDING about my post above. Someone was talking to me about this game earlier and had said it was a Wii game xD It sounds fun, I might try and grab it. Did you get yours from playasia? I've never ordered from there before, but I'm assuming they're pretty reliable? Yesasia I've noticed tends to list every game ever in existence, but rarely actually has them when you go to order <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /sleep.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

I've noticed that with Yesasia too, but they sometimes have good deals, so I put up with their crappy updating ability.

I did get mine from Play-Asia, they have it on hand now, so it will probably ship out pretty quickly.

I've never had any problems with them.

EPIC BUMP.

I just started playing this. Does anyone else still play?

Language-wise, it is just perfect (somewhat easy Japanese, wide range of phrases that depend on "personality type", various games where you pick up new vocab). Also, it is hilarious and wonderful.

I made a Mii of myself and my husband and we're in love. Actually, I 超好き him but he only まあ好き me back. Fucker.
