I think Amuro Namie should hold a concert in US.

She has much more stage presence and marketablity than Hikki does.

I don't see why she would. Namie doesn't speak English and doesn't have a presence in America that's not attached to her Japanese material--mostly because she doesn't have anything besides Japanese material. I'm a huge Namie fan, but it would be absolutely stupid on her label's part to try to have her come over here for a tour. She could latch herself onto Comic-Con like other random Japanese artists and have a concert there, but without a real presence in America, that's the best she could do.

On topic: The Honolulu and London dates are sold out. Everything else is still up for grabs.

I would love a Namie tour, but I think one large, one or two night performance is NY or LA or somewhere more populous would be more suited for her fame here.

Because Amuro is much attractive and marketable than Hikki?

Only demerit of hers is that she can't speak English and didn't go to Columbia University. Are those that important to hold a concert?

Amuro can't speak any Taiwanese but she did have a concert there. Why not in US?

To piggy-back on that: she rarely does any speaking or MC parts. In Taiwan, she only spoke a little at the very end. Hell, she doesn't even announce her own dancers <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /noway.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

America is not Taiwan. Americans, in general, are not very accepting of people that don't speak English. With the exception of Spanish, foreign language music just does not make it to the charts in the U.S. but once in a blue moon. Utada Hikaru has English material that she released in America that she is promoting by doing this tour. Amuro does not. She could probably do a one-night performance in L.A. (read: Japanese central) or at some anime convention, where she'd be playing for the Jpop fans, but without American material to promote, there's no way she (or any other Japanese act) could book a tour like this in the U.S.
I'll be buying my tickets for the Chicago show tomorrow morning when they go on sale, I'll definitely be there, I don't care what music she plays, even if she played all of her worst songs, it would still be entertaining getting to see my first favorite Jpop singer live, especially in a setting like the HOB Chicago, its a really small club, its not just going to be a huge ridiculous concert where it doesn't feel personable or anything, its a really small, close-up kind of environment. And thank GOD its a 17 and over show.
Hopefully there will still be tickets available when I get back from Korea and Japan in January. I'm saving all my money to buy stuff while I'm over there lol, but if there are still tickets left I'll definitely be up there!

You quoted what I said, but didn't seem to listen to any of the points I made. Reiterating what TnB, neshcom, and I have previously said, Namie has no presence in America other than in the small anime fanbase she could latch onto for a performance here. She doesn't have nearly enough presence to hold a successful tour. America is not like Taiwan; it's extremely culturally isolated and not any bit interested in an artist who neither speaks English nor has any English songs to sing. Outside of the anime fanbase, Namie would have no one to pay attention to any forray into the American market. I would not be averse to flying to Japan and seeing her in concert there, but an American crossover is not possible for her at this point.

If the only argument for a Namie tour you can make is that she's attractive, you're not considering the American market as a whole. Also, if you believe the only reason Hikaru is holding a tour in America is because she speaks English and went to Columbia University, then I don't think you and I are working with the same logic and this is probably a pointless conversation.

Mainstream Taiwan eats up anything Japan produces. Mainstream America stereotypes Japan as weird and nerdy.

Utada's site update:

ALL VENUES SOLD OUT except Chicago (February 2nd) and Las Vegas (January 30th) venues.

If you're intending to go to either of those two, I'd suggest buying tickets now if not soon.

I found out she was touring the 2 days after it was announced, and went to the O2 website to try and get London tickets, and it was already sold out. My god. That was quick.

Meh, looks like Chicago is probably sold out as well, cause I just keep getting "Sorry, no exact matches were found, but other tickets may still be available." even with no filters. :/ Oh well, more money for Korea.

Umm, duh. *raises hand* You shouldn't even have to ask me that. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Steve actually bought my ticket along with his, since they went on sale back when I had zero dollars to my name. Just after starting my new job, but before actually receiving my first paycheck from them. And even if he hadn't offered to do so, I would have found another way to be sure I got a ticket. Hell, to see Morning Musume, I even made it out to Anime Expo. And that show was all the way across the country, at a time when I also had zero money. Utada is one of my favorite artists of the past decade, and she's playing a show in my hometown. Simple enough. I was gonna make a pun and say, "Simple & Clean." But damn the English version of the song. Lord, and she's likely to sing it at the concert too, haha. If anything, if she's gonna do stuff that's not from the new album, let's hope it all comes from Exodus.

Oh yes and, Showrainy is also attending the Chicago show. Which was mentioned earlier in this thread, you lazy sod. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> A few other people expressed interest, like Spanchez and Martin Landau. But neither of them can realistically do it, as it's a much longer trip in their cases. Can't wait to see ya, either way. 'twill be nice to see the FPD more than once a year, for once. Unless this is your only planned trip to Chicago this year, in which case Steve and I will hafta drive out to Indiana and drag your sorry ass back during the summer sometime. If not during the Matsuri, then whenever works for you.

Yeah lol, you were pretty much supposed to be included with AUEG haha. I'm sure I'll make my way up for the Matsuri again this year as well, so it'll at least be 2 times!

I like This is the One better than Exodus :/ Although I like both. Poppin' and Dirty Desire or w/e are pretty meh songs imo, but Apple and Cinnamon and Baby Come Back to Me are a few of my favorite songs atm. (Other than Bo Peep. Christ, I heard that song a billion fucking times in Korea rofl)

I've heard the Boku wa Kuma on the tracklist was by request of the audience at that particular show, and was sung acapella, so don't be too sure of it showing up on future playlists.

EDIT: Oh, and a reminder to any who don't already know, Utada has requested no photography for any of the events, so any pictures that show up are most likely phone pics and technically illegal. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suika:' /> Just for those who plan on going, don't be surprised if any cameras you bring get confiscated if you try for any photography.

I went to Utada's concert here in Hawaii last night and it was great. She opened with songs off of This is the One: Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, On & On, and Poppin'. Then, to the delight of the audience, she sang Passion/Sanctuary (started with Japanese and switched to English after the bridge in the opening version). Following that, a keyboard was brought out on stage and she sang Sakura Drops and Stay Gold. The keyboard was removed, and she switched back to English songs: I remember her singing Apples and Cinnamon, You Make Me Want to Be a Man, Devil Inside, something else off of her Exodus Album, and Come Back to Me. As a bonus, during a break my friend was able to get her to sing a little of Boku wa Kuma acapella. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suika:' /> She switched back to Japanese songs then, singing First Love, Can You Keep a Secret, and Automatic. Her last song was Dirty Desire, her next radio single. For an encore, she sang Simple and Clean and Me Muero.

I'm sure I'm probably missing a few songs here and there. I'm not very familiar with her English songs, so they're a bit hard to remember. Overall, it was an awesome concert. We had to wait an hour and a half past the time it was supposed to start. It was standing room only, and I was in three inch heels, but personally, all was forgiven once she sang Passion. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Utada's vocals were fabulous and during the few breaks when she spoke with the audience, she came across as very humble and personable. A number of my friends described her mannerisms as "cute" and even somewhat "dorky."

I was apprehensive to buy tickets because I thought she might sing only English songs (which I'm not familiar with). Needless to say, I'm glad I went. I've been a fan of Utada for eleven years, and it was such a thrill for me to have her fifteen feet away and singing some of my favorite songs from her.

Edit: Oops. Looks like showraniy posted the setlist while I was typing. Seems like I have big holes in my memory. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Thank you for the set list and the review, showraniy and hoshi! I'm so envious... I really wish I could go to any of her concerts, they are just too rare! So, enjoy it, guys!!! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... humpup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suika:' /> Does anyone know if she'll release a DVD?

And her hair, so lovely. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> She switched back to Japanese songs then, singing First Love, Can You Keep a Secret, and Automatic.

/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Utada's vocals were fabulous and during the few breaks when she spoke with the audience, she came across as very humble and personable.

<img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />
Oh no, no, first-hand reports are always welcome! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... joyful.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'm so happy you were able to go and thoroughly enjoy yourself. I can only post what little information has been circling on the internet, so it's good to have input from someone who actually went. I can hardly wait to go myself since I've also been a fan of Utada for many years now (though mine don't rival yours; I've only been a fan for about eight years now).
Thank you for the set list and the review, showraniy and hoshi! I'm so envious... I really wish I could go to any of her concerts, they are just too rare! So, enjoy it, guys!!! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... humpup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suika:' /> Does anyone know if she'll release a DVD?

And her hair, so lovely. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
Since there don't appear to be any cameras allowed, people (including myself) are guessing that Island Def Jam (her American label) is planning to release some official material. No one knows if that'll be a DVD (hoping!), official photos, etc., but that's the guesswork going on now.

And I definitely agree about the hair. I didn't mind her bob too much, but I definitely like the grown-out hair on her more.

Thank you for posting the setlist, by the way! It helps to fill in the holes in my memory. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':suika:' />

I hope you have fun when you go! It was definitely surreal for me to be within twenty feet of her, and it totally was worth braving the crowded venue to go see her. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... joyful.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> It'd be awesome if they released a DVD. I'd buy it.

Yep, I suppose this is why no pictures were allowed at the Honolulu location. Official, HQ pictures up at the link above.

I still hope for a DVD! By the way, i saw those photos and Utada was giving off a feeling of Kimura Kaela or something; I really loved that hair! And I don't mind either when it's short; in fact, I fell in love with her when she was wearing it short back in the Distance album times I think but I do prefer it longer.

Oh, Hikki, won't you ever come near my home? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' /> I hope I'll get lucky and she'll go on tour when I'm in Japan!!!
