Utada Hikaru to Tour the United States and London

Post by showraniy »

Utada "In The Flesh" Tour Winter 2010

Utada's English website just announced 10 of the supposed 10 cities to be visited for her upcoming tour.

Honolulu, HI @ Pipeline Cafe / 01.15.2010 @ 8PM

Los Angelos, CA @ House Of Blues / 1.19.2010 @ TBA time

Seattle, WA @ The Showbox / 01.21.2010 @ 8PM

San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore / 01.24.2010 @ 8PM

Las Vegas, NV @ House Of Blues / 01.30.2010 @ 8PM

Chicago, IL @ House Of Blues / 02.02.2010 @ 8PM

Boston, MA @ Paradise Rock Club / 02.05.2010 @ 7PM

New York City, NY @ Irving Plaza / 02.08.2010 @ 8PM

London, England @ O2 Academy Islington / 02.10.2010 @ 8PM (supposedly)

London, England @ O2 Academy Islington / 02.12.2010 @ 7PM

As a small disclaimer, this tour is most likely primarily for promoting her most recent English album, This Is The One; so if you didn't particularly enjoy that album... that'll probably be 80% of the songs right there.

Sources: U.Blog; Utada.com

EDIT: Updated with L.A. location

EDIT #2 (Feb 3, 2010): Last minute SECOND London date announced for February 10th! All 10 locations are now confirmed.

I'll be buying my tickets for the Chicago show tomorrow morning when they go on sale, I'll definitely be there, I don't care what music she plays, even if she played all of her worst songs, it would still be entertaining getting to see my first favorite Jpop singer live, especially in a setting like the HOB Chicago, its a really small club, its not just going to be a huge ridiculous concert where it doesn't feel personable or anything, its a really small, close-up kind of environment. And thank GOD its a 17 and over show.

Urgh. I'm not a fan of her English works at all. I'm convinced "The Workout" is a siren song sent from Hell to pull those who enjoy it down into it's fiery, Utada-filled depths. TITO was about 60 minutes of slow, boring ballads and wannabe hip-hop/pop songs. Was a setlist released? With so few dates, I expect it just to be stuff from TITO.

Melon looks at topic title.

Melon silently sqeals with delight.

"Please be Texas, please be Texas, please be Texas," she whispers silently to herself as the topic loads.

Melon scans the list of dates, searching for that elusive "TX".

It is for naught. Melon is sad.

The end.

Too bad it's not a House of Blues tour, then there'd be a chance she would have come closer to me. I'd certainly go, but it's not something I can drive 14 hours to Chicago for the closest venue.

To be entirely honest, I was wondering about that 17+ thing. Is that just standard with the House of Blues location? It seems like an awfully odd age to pick since 18 is technically adult and I don't really see what's gained by making it 17 or older in particular.

Also, I'll be at the February 2nd Chicago date with a group of friends, so I'm glad there will be other people I somewhat-know there too. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' />

Well, that's why I put the disclaimer there in the first place. Some people aren't very fond of This Is The One and I understand that. I personally love FYI and Dirty Desire to absolute death and think the rest of the CD isn't bad either.

The setlist hasn't been released at this point, but I'm with you in thinking it'll be primarily TITO material because of the smaller type of tour it is. But you never know. If the turn-out to this one is overwhelmingly good, she may be prompted to give a bigger tour of her English AND Japanese songs.

There are two cities yet to be announced and you aren't the only one hoping for a location down south, so Texas might be one of them. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />

Yeah, HOB Chicago is usually 17+ or 21+ shows unless some popular emo band is coming, then they know they have to make it all ages so the little kiddies can come out for it and they get ticket sales. That's cool if you're going, but I imagine a lot of people from the area are going, granted tickets don't sell out. Its not a very large venue, honestly, maybe fits about 200 people including both the standing floor and the balcony.

I actually like Exodus quite a bit and have only heard 1 song from TITO, but again, I don't care that much about which songs are played, its the principle. And I actually do like The Workout, you ass. The lyrics are stupid, but the song has a hella interesting and catchy beat.

Hm, San Francisco is pretty close. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... cratch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':weeeh:' />

Aine should go to the one in London and me in SF! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' /> (so it's kinda like we went together? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ryalot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' /> )

I don't know if I care that much for her, but I don't mind going for the sake of going.

Okay so there are 2 more places that they are ironing details out of. My guess is that one will be in LA and the other somewhere else in the UK. How can a Japanese pop star NOT come to one of the biggest Japanese-American markets in the entire US? LA is like #2 after Hawaii.

I bought my ticket today!

Section: G.A.

Row: G1

Seat: 253

according to the ticket, that's where I'll be, though I've heard the location is stand-only and your closeness to the stage is first-come, first-serve when the doors open. So hopefully I'll be there way early since I know there will be tons of other people lined up for a good spot.

When everything was said and done, the ticket cost $38 and some change.

This is correct, standing room only. There's usually a decent amount of room to move around and stuff, though, people move or leave to get drinks/bathroom, or whatever. Though, I think some of the people who may go to this are people who don't normally go to concerts, so maybe they'll be overzealous and freak out because there's a celebrity on the stage and want to run towards the front as hard as they can.

Hmm yeah if you are midway or towards the back or on the 2nd floor, I'd wager you'd have tons of room. However....

It isn't that the guests don't normally go to concerts and are thus overzealous. It is because you'd never see a musical star of such caliber in a tiny venue like House of Blues. Plus, it is rare to impossible for American fans to see their Japanese idols to begin with. That is what inspires the freak out and rush. Then the excitement builds up and everyone just gets caught up in it. The weird thing is, you subtract the 300 guests smashed up against each other within the first 5 feet of the stage, and everyone else can just chill and walk around.

This is not very true, I've seen some huge acts there, a lot of bands don't just tour huge arenas. And even so, Utada is definitely not what I'd call a "high caliber" star in this country, in the regards that she's not someone who would be selling out shows of thousands of people in this country.
Plus, it is rare to impossible for American fans to see their Japanese idols to begin with. That is what inspires the freak out and rush.
This is pretty much what I meant by "don't go to concerts often." If they haven't seen a lot of their favorite artists in person in a small club, they may not know how to handle it. So help me god if I have fangirls screaming out song titles in my ear while Utada's playing her set, I'm going to punch someone.

I can only really see you having that problem if she performs any of her Japanese stuff, because then fangirls would have something to brag about by knowing it (or so they think).

Can anyone access the ticket sales part of the LiveNation site for the Chicago show anymore? When I go back to buy an extra ticket, every time I click on the "Find Tickets" thing, it just re-displays the same page. This is leading me to believe the Chicago show is already sold out, but can someone else try this and let me know if they get the same thing or if its just a problem with my browser or something?

I'm getting the same result. The text on my browser says it's "redirecting" me too, so I'm guessing what you're guessing--the tickets are sold out.

EDIT: The tickets for Chicago have sold out at that particular website (Livenation), but are still available at the House Of Blues website through Ticketmaster. You can purchase a maximum of 6 tickets at once on there and, once all fees are added in for the full purchase of one ticket, it's a total of $34.51

Section: G.A.

Description: GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS

Type: FULL PRICE TICKET

Ticket Price: US $23.00 x 1

Facility Charge: US $2.00 x 1

Convenience Charge: US $9.05 x 1

Additional Taxes: US $0.46 x 1

SUBTOTAL: US $34.51

EDIT 2: Alright, so I actually just bought a ticket from the Ticketmaster website for a friend of mine, and it ended up costing $39.16 total. There was a random extra fee that didn't pop up until the billing page or so.

On the upside, January 19th is her birthday, so you both would be sacrificing something to go there in a way.

The Chicago date I'm going to is on a Tuesday and I'm thoroughly prepared to tell my professors I won't be there that day. But if you're really not that into Utada but still want to go, you could just show up shortly before the doors open and get a seat in the back. I'm sure that with the small size of the venues, you'd still be able to see her just fine from the back.

Hm I wonder why it was scheduled for the 19th then. Maybe she wanted to spend her birthday doing something special, like touring LA?

I live in SD though so a round trip to LA on a weekday (with all that weekday traffic) is just not feasible. Whenever I do stuff in LA, I stay with my parents in OC for the weekend. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
