As an Ayu fan who's enjoyed many of her concert DVDs, the aspect of her career that I find most interesting is her ability as a showman, i.e., someone who knows how to put on a great show. (I put Madonna in that category, too.) Just look at the stagecraft, the effects, the troupe of dancers, the band of regular musicians, the costume changes, etc. I can't prove it, but I believe that Ayu plays a huge role in coordinating all of it. And if you look at the "Making of" clips for her videos, in some of them (e.g. "Rule") it looks like she's directing it!

Now, of course, all of this showmanship is centered around one thing in particular--her voice. If she wasn't at the center of it all singing her songs, there'd be no show. So, the question is, can Ayu stage these shows with other performers? Can she direct others' music videos? Or, since it will no longer be about her, will she simply lose interest? Those are the questions.

mEri, I think this is kind of what we're all pushing for. "Die alone in a corner" is a little harsh definitely, but Ayu does a lot of the design and conceptual work in her shows and videos and it's still somewhere where she shines. I would love to see her, literally, be Tsunku (from a few years ago) #2: someone who possibly has a steady load of appearances and maybe does the occasional song while primarily focusing on producing. She'd control damn near all aspects of a protegee save for the actual singing. I don't believe she's talented to do much else. She did try her hand at acting a long time ago when she exploded, but I don't know how good she can act.

She definitely could be in the public eye, but her strengths have been writing and synthesizing design ideas.
