I have no idea why, but I stopped listening to Evanescence for the longest time. Recently, I've rediscovered my love for them.

Bumping a spam thread. =3=

For those who don't read the Gaming Thread, I've been playing Brutal Legend recently. It's an adventure/strategy game set in the world of heavy metal, if that makes any sense. The game itself is average to frustrating, however it has a great soundtrack of 100+ better and less known classic (mostly) metal songs. Of course I couldn't pass the chance to listen to it all and share my favourites. ;/

Apostasy - Sulphur Injection
Bishop of Hexen - A Serpentine Grave
Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave
Brocas Helm - Cry of the Banshee
Brocas Helm - Drink the Blood of the Priest
Budgie - Breadfan
Candlemass - Witches
Cradle of Filth - Her Ghost in the Fog
Dark Tranquillity - Cathode Ray Sunshine
Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse
Judas Priest - Leather Rebel
Manowar - The Dawn Of Battle
Mirrorthrone - So Frail
Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman
Running Wild - Riding the Storm
Scorpions - Holiday
Tvangeste - Birth of the Hero

I tried to keep it balanced but black metal ended up overrepresented. Guess that's what I've been in mood for recently.

However, the winner is Brocas Helm. I never heard of this band before but both songs are amazing in every way. If you only plan of clicking one link before you run away screaming, make it one of the Brocas Helm ones. :pirate:

I've finally gotten hold of some Yui Asaka albums from 1990 and really like them. Definitely a Seiko Matsuda vibe to her. But for some reason, I like Asaka better. I know her from the "Sukeban Deka" TV show, 3rd season.

Someone.... in this place. Not gonna name names, got me addicted to GILLE. THANKS! After I listened to her 70s'/80's covers I went on the hunt for more of her stuff. I remember listening to her back before she made it big. I love her english covers of Japanese songs and how she puts her own spin on them. Some of them work, others, not so much. And the fact that she's not 100% English with an accent, makes her songs work because it's not jarring when she throws in the Japanese words. It almost sounds natural, like it was suppose to be that way.

I like these covers in particular. Grenade / Heavy Rotation (No sample. But here's her version of Flying Get) / Sakura

Sorry this is an old post of mine I've been meaning to make. But the videos have been hard to come by for this singer, because she's not as wildly popular like the other members in her group.

I've been listening to a lot of Sphere (スフィア) lately. I'm a big fan of Kotobuki Minako. I just enjoy her voice. I wish she'd release more solo stuff. I also know the two other members (Tomatsu Haruka and Toyosaki Aki) from their various anime work and I liked them a bunch. However there's one member of the group I really didn't know much about. Takagaki Ayahi. So I did what any normal person would do. I looked her up and downloaded some of her work to listen.

Holy hell is she good. D:
I didn't expect her to have such an amazing voice for an anime voice actress. She's released two cover albums of English musical standards, in English. (Melodia/Melodia2)
Memory - Sample from Melodia 2 (CM for Melodia 2)
Kigurumi Wakusei - Sample of her range. (She does the whole song, even the operatic parts.)
Meteor Light - From her first non-cover album, Relation. Ending to Senki Zesshou Symphogear.
月のなみだ - I just like this song. xD It's from the Relation album.

I enjoy a good singer with a good range. Double that when they can sing in English too.

I wish I could share more of her music, but I've only exposed myself to her albums. The trouble with an anime artist is that their character singles will be all over the place and unless they release them in a single album, it's hard to find them.

I've never been interested in New kids on the block at all, but for some reason I remembered the refrain to Tonight yesterday and now I can't stop listening to it:

I have songs from Spanish class stuck in my head. Namely "A Dios Le Pido" by Juanes.

Radio 3's All Times Top 2015 Edition

Every year one one my country's most respected and trend-setting stations polls its listeners for their all times favourite songs, then on or around the New Year's Eve they play the top 100 results over the duration of the whole day.

If you're curious, check the link above where someone put them in a handy playlist form, starting with Black Sabbath's Iron Man on the 100th place.

Even if you may not care about some of the songs, I don't think you can find a single one that you could objectively be called bad, even the few non-English ones.

Still incredibly cannot get over Malice Mizer not being around. See the video with Gackt on piano and Kami on drums.

Cupitron's latest single is soooooper catchy. It reminds me of a lot of the stuff I heard when I first got into Jpop around 2001. Not so much the electronic sound, but definitely the song itself. They beat the living shit out of the chorus at the end, singing it a full six times (and eating up a full 50 seconds), but even that isn't enough to keep me from wanting more.

So no one wanted to embarrass the old man and clue me into the fact that the song I've been obsessing over for a week is a cover of an old anime closing theme.

Still, it's fucking great.

Because you're old enough that you should have recognized Ginga Tetsudo right away, if only by the 999 in the title. (For the record, I don't know the original song and never really watched any Galaxy Express.)

Cute song though, I get a Hinoi Team vibe from it. Just dial that autotune down please.

While most Western fans get into JPop via the gateway drug of anime, it was the complete opposite for me. Truthfully, most anime that I've watched was because of my wife. But this song just felt like it was an anime theme, which is why I did more research on it.

I found a few interesting things while looking it up, including a decent jazz version of this song, which got me to thinking about what I don't like about contemporary male jazz singers: they all seem to approach it with a tongue-in-cheek irony, like we're all in on some hipster joke. And, like this guy, they all ape Sinatra (and this guy would better aping Mel Torme). He's got a nice voice, but no balls, and he doesn't seem to be singing with any particular purpose other than to get a laugh from the hipsters. Now, I know that's not the case -- the Platina Jazz band has released five CDs of anime theme covers -- but it just feels like that.

I really do love the Cupitron version a lot, but the Autotune is obnoxious, and it's so amateurishly applied, too. It's so choppy in parts. Still, it's better than the EXILE version I found, which is just as overproduced as you would expect.

Oh, and I watched the original movie, which was entertaining, but nothing special.
