@Pflaume: YESYESYES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I love T-ara and their album was like the only album where all songs are good! Except for their last one.

1.) I Go Crazy Because of You (MV)

2.) I'm Really Hurt (MV)

3.) One & One (No MV)

4.) Like the First Time (MV)

5.) Bo Peep Bo Peep (MV) 19+ Version (MV)

6.) Tic Tic Toc (No MV)

7.) Bye Bye (No MV)

8.) Apple is A (MV)

9.) Falling U (No MV)

10.) You You You (No MV)

11.) Lies (Dance Version) (MV)

12.) TTL (Time to Love) feat. Supernova (MV)

13.) Lies (Slow Version) (MV)

14.) TTL Listen 2 feat. Supernova (MV)

15.) Good Person (MV) (The MV was their debut song for some drama and features only 5 of them before the two dropped out and replaced by 3 others)

16.) Wanna Play? (No MV)

That may not be particularly AEUG's tastes, but I really want people to know of T-ara.

As for AEUG, I kinda have a slight idea of what music you like and what you don't like. If I'm correct, you like a lot of TNX stuff, and I'm not too into it, but at least we agreed that The Possible's Shiawse no Katachi was an awesome song! Anyways! You might like Apple is A or possibly Bo Peep Bo Peep? Have you heard of KARA? I heard some people compare their music to H!P like Rock U (my personal favorite fyi), Pretty Girl, Honey, and Same Heart. You may even like their Japanese debut song, Mister. Similar to that kind of style, Girls' Generation's Way to Go!, Into the New World, HaHaHa, and their self-titled song (which, I think, is a remake of some 80's/90's song). And yes, early BoA was pretty awesome! I especially liked her Atlantis Princesssong.

Hope that helps, you guys!

Yeah, I picked up T-ara's first album in Korea based solely on Bo Peep and I loved every song on it. It's a great album.

omg this is my favourite fanfic ever PLZ UPDATE SOON. so meeningful and passonate...

I'm not a huge T-ara fan, honestly. I liked Choum Chorom and Bo Peep Bo Peep at first, but they got a little tiresome after repeated plays. I'm obviously in a minority here, though. I am, however, going to second the Kara recommendation. I never thought about them, which is odd because they're probably the K-pop group that makes stuff most similar to H!P music, particularly their Pretty Girl/Honey period. Them and the Wonder Girls are probably the only K-pop groups I follow on a somewhat regular basis.

Honestly I wasn't a huge fan of bopeep until I was in Korea and heard it literally anywhere I walked from pretty much every storefront haha. I'm a big fan of electronica of any sort pretty much so the album was pretty close to my favorite surprise that an album has given me when I have purchased something based on one song. (Weezer's green album is still my best surprise haha)

I for the life of me just can't like the Wonder Girls though. :/ Something about them just makes me dislike them. Not in an anti fan sort of way or anything, as I see why people like them, but something about them as a group is just offputting for me. I tried really hard to like them too. I liked them even less after going to their concert in Chicago this past spring. (2pm I started to like even more though. WTB 2pm full concert soon!)

As I've said, I always personally thought that their songs (and videos, too) were quite novel and tongue-in-cheek, almost to the point of self-parody at times. Total earworms, too.

It's odd that I shouldn't like T-ara, because I do usually like electropop. The album's on my iPod, and I do enjoy it to an extent, but it's still sort of lukewarm to me. Oh, well. Maybe I should give it another shot sometime.

...it turned out for the better actually

I've actually really been getting into Davichi lately. I guess I can suggest them.

They have a rather interesting style. It's pop, R&B, hip-hop and a little bit of trance all mixed together. They're great.

"Shadow" = their best song

First of all, my god, Petit. I sure hope you copied and pasted some previously written god-awful slashfic and just pasted in certain parts, and if you didn't, I'm partially impressed you spent that much time on something so absolutely ridiculous and pointless, but also very scared that people actually write stuff like that
2.) I'm Really Hurt (MV)

4.) Like the First Time (MV)

7.) Bye Bye (No MV)

8.) Apple is A (MV)

11.) Lies (Dance Version) (MV)
I actually listened to all of these T-ara songs, and most of them were just extremely generic or off-putting, except the ones I left in the quote there. Even most of those were "just OK' except Apple is A, that one stood out more than the others, but its still not OMFG AWESOME, just more enjoyable than the rest. Most of them are just the typical American style pop that bores me to tears or is just extremely unattractive and trying to sound overly dramatic or cool. Like I said, those songs I left in the quote are good, but not stuff I'd listen to often.

I had heard of KARA before, we had a discussion on the board here a few years ago about them. Pretty Girl is the kind of really pure, fun pop style that I like and that some of the artists I listed had back in the day. Honey and Same Heart are also pretty good, but not as good as the first. Mister isn't really too good, but it seems more like a Japanese song, not just because of the language

SNSD's Way To Go! is actually really good, and sounds really alike to a bunch of the TNX stuff I love, with the heavy rock sounds. Into the New World sounds much more like a Japanese songs as well. HaHaHa also kinda sounds like an H!P/TNX type song. Hell, all the songs you posted sound straight out of Japan's idol industry, so I guess it makes sense they'll be debuting in Japan soon. I don't think they're quite as catchy as most TNX/H!P stuff just based on the songwriting, but the style is almost identical in the arrangements and tone and everything. I do remember seeing a few other videos by them from friends on Facebook and their newer style just basically seems like they're going the same route as T-ara, with generic dance/techno pop, which is really disappointing with how good they used to be. Maybe I'll grab their first album or two when they sounded good and unique.

Its interesting to hear more from a few of the more popular groups out there right now, but SNSD seems to be the only one that I might pay more attention to in the future, if their Japanese debut goes back to the way they used to be, but it doesn't seem like it will, since their first Japanese "single" is a remix of "Genie" which is just generic techno pop <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sideways:' />

Hilarious shit! But Melon, I would never drive a Camaro, or at least not one produced after 1981. I'm more of a classic Ford or MOPAR man. A '72 Charger would have added the appropriate amount of truth to the fiction. Still, funny shit, though.

It turns out my theory about girl pop in the 90s vs. now is right: groups like SES and Baby VOX were scouted off the streets and basically given no training before debut, whereas groups nowadays get upwards of 5 years of training. That's why they're vastly superior now. (Objectively speaking, I was a big FinKL and SES fan and even have a Baby VOX cd, so it's not like you can't like them, they're just not as good.)

Yeah, on pretty much any show I see any of the SES/VOX/Finkl girls on that have younger idols on the show too it always comes up that the new idols are much better because they have so much training and are just all around more talented.

Haha, that's funny that they need 5 years of training now to be half as entertaining as the 90's artists were from the get-go. Now they just come off as way too polished and fake instead of having that charm like they used to. Kinda like H!P, when they used to win the auditions and then be in concerts about 3 months later, the training happened as they went along. That was what made the earlier groups and artists so damn entertaining.

Honestly, perceived "talent" or longer training periods doesn't make that much difference to me because I don't have much interest in dance routines, and like many H!P fans, singing ability isn't the biggest priority to me. As long as I like the music being produced, I'm happy. I also agree with AEUG in that oftentimes less "trained" groups can be more entertaining anyway. It's really as much a subjective measure as anything else when broken down.

While I'm in here, I may as well plug a newer girl group song (Rainbow - A) that recently hooked me. I personally found the song more organic and lively than a lot of the electropop stuff floating around the K-pop scene right now, in the same way I did with Secret's Madonna. Rainbow's other song was bleh, but I like the direction they seem to have taken with A. I guess I'm a sucker for anything vaguely disco-like.

Yeah newtype, we know you don't like the new groups lol, but guess what... not all of us think that. I personally like people to have polished talent while still having personality that's just as colorful as anyone in MM ever had (or more colorful in regards to some of mm XD). I admire hard work, and putting in the time before hand doesn't make them somehow less entertaining just because you have an arbitrary dislike of it. Opinion is opinion, not an absolute.

Putting my opinion forth: I agree with fpd, with all the training that K-pop artists recieve that doesn't mean they aren't as interesting. Many groups still have fun personalities and perform well live, which is nice

It's (mostly) all about the music, and new-school KPop is putting out some really good music right now, IMO. I only care about the personalities of groups who sing good shit.

Ok, in words that have probably already been said: saying all kpop sucks is like saying all jpop sucks is like saying all US pop sucks. There is plenty of underground/less popular Korean music that I adore (and yes, there is rock! Even little bits of KGirlRock! that I can locate once I start going through my iPod. Try "Dear Cloud" for starters.) but because they're not owned by one of the big entertainment companies, they're not promoted as much, don't get as much exposure, insert every argument about independent music and smaller record labels ever here. Someday soon I'll start a list of lesser known artists that you Should Know. But otherwise? I have nothing to prove. I don't like most j-pop these days. It works both ways.

^ ... And that was the response I wrote before I read the fic. Now I'm like:
