Right, I forgot about that unwritten law of Jpop, a best album follows the 3rd.

New Perfume news from TokyoHive

According to the announcement on Perfume's website, their still-untitled new single will be released on November 2nd and will contain two songs: a currently untitled track and their “Kirin Chu-Hai HyouketsuCM song,GLITTER“. Those who pre-order the limited edition or regular version of the single at certain stores will receive an exclusive B2-sized poster.

Meanwhile, Perfume’s new album “JPN“ will be released on November 30th. It’s been nearly two and a half years since their last album release with “Triangle“, and so this particular album is gaining much interest from J-Pop fans. The trio’s long-awaited album will contain all their recent singles from “Fushizen na Girl / Natural ni Koi Shite“, as well as new material

Two other points swept away with the album news:

In conjunction with the album, Perfume will launch their first nationwide arena tour starting in January 2012. A total of 11 venues are planned, but more information about the schedule and locations will be announced at a later date. The most surprising news is that Perfume will be holding an online dance competition called “Perfume Dance Contest ~Miseyo, JPN!~.” Applicants can upload videos of themselves dancing to YouTube and apply through a special website that has been opened.

For the first round of judging, contestants will dance to a 30-second version of “GLITTER” that has been prepared. For the first half, they will copy the same dance moves as Perfume, and for the rest of it they will have to come up with their own routine. Submissions will be accepted until September 28.

The second and third rounds will also be conducted via YouTube later this month and in October. Perfume, their choreographer MIKIKO, and other staff will be involved in the judging, narrowing it down to 10 entries for the final competition. The finalists will face off at Stellar Ball in Shinagawa, Tokyo, on October 29. The winning team – which can be anywhere from 1 person to 20 people – will get a chance to dance with Perfume on stage and receive a special present.

The new single is called Spice, the covers are on the website. They're bright and cute.

super short preview

also, a 15 second preview of GLITTER & its choreography. (in association with the dance contest, I think)

Now for the album.

It will have Fushizen, Natural, VOICE, Nee, LASER & Kasukana

(13 tracks total, so 7ish new songs. I hope there are no mixes.

[Spice] will not be a track on the album, but the DVD version includes its PV as well as Natural & Kasukana... and....

They finished it!!! THE DVD HAS THE FULL VERSION OF LASER BEAM!!!!!

You know, for some reason I'd hoped they wouldn't finish it. Laserbeam is one of my favourite Perfume songs to date but the fact that they were shut down due to the earthquake at that very momemt I found to be a very momentous and powerful thing. In some way, the fact that they're finishing it in spite of such a huge event having taken place just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

But, hey. We'll get to see if the girls catch up with Mister Suit. Maybe we'll get to find out what's in his briefcase. Or, you know, if he has a face. Hooray!

I like you, but...

that's just absurd.

I have a feeling that you wouldn't have that view if you were personally in the earthquake. Were you? It seems like something that is easier to say if you are detached from the experience.

When I see "they're finishing it in spite of" it almost makes it sound like the earthquake was something that was welcomed.

If we're going to say that about something that couldn't be finished, we might as well say "all of the releases that had to be delayed should have just been scrapped because they couldn't be distributed on schedule." Of course not, if you have it already, you might as well give it to the public.

Well, they had the full concept of the PV before the earthquake, so that's just as another form of delay. They couldn't shoot the footage, but it was already planned. Also, I imagine that there was a contractual agreement with the director that included the full concept.

They finished it because people have to recover and continue with their lives. The PV shouldn't become a metaphorical memorial statue, it's not even significant enough to even be viewed as such. That's not the point of the PV or Perfume. The point is to put a smile on the faces of the public, which becomes even more desired when there's a natural disaster.

If everything that was interrupted by the earthquake was discontinued to remember the event, Japan would be in horrible shape.

This is true... I was not personally affected by the earthquake but somehow I feel as though it is undermining what those people went through. People lost their homes and businesses, people drowned, people were swept out to sea, people went missing, people lots friends and family members, people lost their own lives. By finishing the PV, which, at least in my opinion is so tied to the earthquake and tsunami due to the fact that they were shooting it as it happened, it paints an image in my head of some executives going, "WHAT ABOUT OUR PV?? $$$ "

I totally agree about the importance of the entertainment industry continuing in spite of the events, because it has put smiles on a lot of faces and has contributed to the recovery a huge heap. But this particular PV seems rather symbolic, at least to me, and while I hadn't experienced those disasters first hand, giving consideration to other large-scale disasters I've lived through, it seems like icky taste to go, "OK, now that that's over, hey, partytime? "

I doubt this is intentional by any personnel, of course, and I suppose if it puts a smile on people's faces, especially for those who endured the earthquake, that's what counts most.

I don't know. I bet that there were a few executives who were a little upset, but I feel more for the creative types who couldn't get to finish their work. Perfume is on Yamaha which is kind of a smaller group and they have really experimental/creative PVs. I don't know if anyone regularly directs their PVs (which I kind of doubt), but if I was doing Perfume's video for the first time, I'd be crushed that I couldn't finish.

It's kind of like when SNL came back after 9/11. At some point, you have to be comfortable moving on and moving forward, even if it's finishing what you started. :themoreyouknow:

Also, Glitter has been performed on Music Station and Music Japan. It's ok. The girls don't particularly look like they're having fun as they usually do.

It's weird, the song is as monochromatic as the PV.

That might have been the whole idea, but everything just blends together. (at least in this preview) Well, maybe hearing the actual CD would reveal some nuance.

I think people would have less of a problem with it if there were more bright colors.

As for the song, I like it. It's the same formula for just about every other Perfume song for the past few years, but it works.

And in that way, is it me, or is Perfume like the electropop girlgroup equivalent of Nickelback?

I hate when B-sides are included on albums. Aren't they b-sides for a reason?

[/quote]

The reason is you can only have one first track, no matter how hard you try.

To be fair, some of those singles were double A-sides/promo songs. They didn't include FAKE IT, which was a true B-side with no tie-ins. (also, one of my favorites of the songs that Perfume has released in this era, but I can just buy the single if it means that much.)

Natural ni Koishite & Kasuka na Kaori were double A-sides.

575 & Glitter were significant because they were CM songs.

It would just be a shorter album, and they would charge the same amount for less music. I don't believe for a second that we were going to get additional new songs if they didn't put the B-sides there. Especially since they resorted to padding the album's new content with an "Opening" & two remixes

This album is out next week, where are the previews?

Oh wait, I've already heard precisely half of this album in the exact form that it will appear.

Edit: that crept up on me, it's out now! Laser Beam & GLITTER got the Nee & FAKE IT treatment and it's awesome. Why can't they just make the actual singles this "mixed". They should have remixed the older singles too, they're kind of stale now.

Perfume are gonna take over the world, while remaining classy. [Full article]

(Reuters) - The world's biggest record label says it is trying something a little different as it seeks the elusive "holy grail" for Japanese pop -- global chart success.

A procession of "J-pop" acts touted as the next big thing on the world stage have come and gone, most causing barely a ripple in markets like the United States, Germany and Britain.

Audiences outside Asia just don't "get" the music and lyrics, experts say, although pinning down exactly why has proved more difficult.

Labels' strategy has tended to focus on coaching Japanese acts to sound and appear more Western, notably by encouraging them to sing in English and try genres like hip-hop and R'n'B.

Now Universal Music Group plans to do the opposite as it seeks to launch techno-pop girl band Perfume on to the world stage -- celebrate their "Japan-ness."

"We want to sell the package as they are now," said Kimitaka Kato, managing director of Universal International at the label's Japanese division.

"I won't get them to sing 100 percent in English and not Westernize them at all unless they ask us to," he told Reuters by telephone from Japan. "I think with Perfume it's all about that futuristic Japanese image."

In what is billed as a first for Universal, it has just released Perfume's number one album "JPN" on iTunes in 50 countries.

"FUTURISTIC, ROBOTIC, DOLL-LIKE"

Kato said the trio -- Nocchi, Kashiyuka and Aa-Chan -- may learn English over time, enabling them to express themselves overseas, but for now they would play on the image of "mysterious, futuristic, robotic, doll-type girls, well choreographed with laser beams."

I think it's a great idea. They won't top any charts, but they'll probably sell more than any of the other Japanese acts that tried to craft their sound and image to fit existing Western trends. And they might just have a curiosity hit or two. I like when people try to stand out rather than fit in. Being yourself is never a bad way to go through life.

A 15s teaser for the Spring of Life PV was posted on Perfume's YouTube. There's also this 20s clip of the chorus without the Kirin CM SFX on top.

Also, new CM for Kirin previewing Point. It's DnB!! Or kind of 2-step!

You should be able to get "JPN" on iTunes. Not sure about any older works.

Point Kirin CM making!

Perfume's also going to MC the MTV VMAJ!

Lastly, if you've never been to Perfume's English site, go do it. It's kind of cray-mazing and a million times better than the Japanese site.
