I may have to buy this single, along with the 100 other things I intend to buy but never do.

Yeah, Aitakatta is on Type B. Nogizaka no Uta (PV is down from Youtube, but it's them running around in tracksuits) is on Type A, and some other song whose PV isn't out yet is on Type C.

Next single is called Oide Shampoo (You can see the covers at Tokyohive.)

C/W song for the next single, Guuzen wo Iiwake ni shite performed by Sub-unit with members, Hashimoto Nanami, Matsumura Sayuri, Shiraishi Mai, and Takayama Kazumi.

I really don't like the lip sync, but as far as voices go I like them well enough. A little too much processing in the voice. You know, whatever they do to Perfume's voices. Autotune?

They're changing the part of the dance where they lift up their skirts. Supposedly they got a negative response.

Also wanted to note that Sato Yuri isn't new in this senbatsu. She was in Guru Guru Curtain as well.

I'm not sure if anyone else other than me is interested in these girls, but their next single is coming out August 22nd. They're announcing the senbatsu next week and created a little tension by suggesting to the girls their might be a center.

But I hope their isn't! I love Ikoma! Last senbatsu only had two different girls, so I think they'll probably keep things mostly the same for this one too.

She also had a solo on the last single, which I thought was a really good song.

It would be cool if they would change it up a bit again, at least with the girls on the bottom end of popularity. Since they don't have a theater and not everyone shows up on the show every week, a lot of the girls are getting almost no exposure.

I'd like to see Wakatsuki Yumi and Eto Misa get to be in senbatsu.

Poor thing, especially since she's been fighting so hard to make senbatsu and finally did these last two singles. No doubt she would have made it this time since it's bigger than usual too.

What are some good Nogizaka songs? I got hooked up on Silent Majority recently after hearing it at MS SuperLive and Kouhaku, but I realised I don't know anything from the "original" group (no wonder, considering I only have a very second-hand interest in them via Suzuka).

Also Himetan at least still managed to score the latest Young Gitar cover (I'm guessing the other girls are Nogis too).

Seifuku no Mannequin is my favorite A-side of theirs. I might add more to this post later when I get a chance to look at more of their songs(I have pretty much their whole discography), but that whole single was pretty solid to me.

What are some good Nogizaka songs?
[/quote]

O......ho..............ho...............ho.

Now, I can't do YT links because sadly the 48G empire runs YT and doesn't like foreigners (lol), so all I can give are names, but....

First, I'll start off with my own snooty opinion that I think Nogi has the best discography of all 48G in recent years combined. They have actual decent singers to balance out the horrid ones (like Rotti/Kawamura Mahiro, who is regarded as the best singer of the group, and Himetan who I have bias for since she's my favorite (ironically I have a second-hand interest in BABYMETAL because of Suu) (and yes I'm worried about her T.T) and it's just nice.

...Of course, it's not like anyone but the center girl(s) ever get lines but :v

Aaaaanyway.

So I have a lot of favorites from Nogi. I haven't totally kept up with their recent releases since while I do really like them, they're also just a blip compared to my H!P love. However, my own opinion, what I really recommend from them are (including b-sides in this, too)...

Oide Shampoo
Kokoro no Kusuri
Ushinaitakunai Kara
*Aitakatta ka mo Shirenai (This isn't a total favorite of mine, but if you know AKB's Aitakatta and want to hear a more slightly dark, sung-practically-as-a-low-harmony rendition, this would be interesting)
Barrette
Watashi no Tame ni Dareka no Tame ni (Featuring pretty much the best singers Nogi has.... KIND OF RUINED BY AUTOTUNE!!! )
Hatsukoi no Hito o Ima Demo
Nandome no Aozora ka? (This one was kind of big for them, it was even the theme for their variety show for like... ever. Might still be, lol, I haven't kept up. orz)
Yasashisa Nara Maniatteru
Kimi no Na wa Kibou
Romantic Ikayaki (It's so simple but... refreshingly boppy)
Koumori yo (Featuring Himetan (and others) on a pretty hard rock-y, metal song that I swear must be a nod to Suu  )
Toiki no Method (Probably my favorite, it's... magical for me. Just so pick-me-up.)
Secret Graffiti
Namida ga Mada Kanashimi Datta Koro (OK, I lied, THIS is my actual favorite by them and has been for years.)

...And that ends my musical recommendations. I think they've had another single (or two <.<) since Hadashi de Summer, which Secret Graffiti comes from, and my favored download site was never getting Harujion ga Saku Koro, so I've not heard anything from that.

But yes! All the girls on the cover are from Nogi, from left to right...

Top row: Nakada Kana, Noujou Ami, Wada Maaya
Bottom row: Himetan, Saitou Asuka, Kawamura Mahiro

It's like the label doesn't want us to get into them by making it easily accessible on yt.

(that Breaking the Law riff is so easy and so fucking satisfying to play that I'd be blasting it now with the amp turned up to 11 if it wasn't almost midnight and Berry wasn't dozing off on the couch :jam: :lmfao:)

They actually have two. They should be on CD Japan.

Edit: here are the links in case you come back to this Madara.

Toumei na Iro (2015)
Sorezore no Isu (2016)

I linked you to the CD only versions. The DVD that comes on the other versions has a concert on them, but they're not really very engaging performers.

And if you decide to buy, here are the Stage48 wikis on them. Has song info, including the members included on each song. It's unfortunately impossible to get all the songs without buying each version. If you want to hear Babymetal's Suzuka's sister in singing action then buy Type C of Sorezore.
Toumei na Iro
Sorezore no Isu

I hadn't seen the charting for these until now, and I'm very surprised their album released last year didn't sell better since they're so close to breaking that million mark with their singles.

So I bought a DVD of Nogizaka 46's first 13 single PVs (All MV Collection). In the middle of it, I came across something really confusing. For #5, Kimi no nawa Kibou, instead of a PV there's a 25-minute documentary showing the girls in a studio with a group of adult instructors, male and female, doing acting exercises and improvisation on a small, low, wooden platform in the center of the room. It might be an audition, since several members are singled out at the end.

No song, no music, no dancing, just that. And when I googled the group and the song title, I got plenty of references to an actual song and performance, but nothing explaining what I saw.

Anyone know what this documentary was and why it was placed on this DVD instead of the PV?

Thanks.

Re: Nogizaka46

Post by Madara »

So I watched all 13 music videos on the All MV Collection: Ano Toki no Kanojotachi DVD. I'm having trouble processing Nogizaka46. They're not like AKB48 nor any other girl group I've seen. The videos often have surges of anger. One is particularly violent. A lot of them are like mini-movies, with long story sections. Without subs, they're hard to follow. My two favorite AKB videos, "Iiwake Maybe" and "Sakura Hanabiratachi," were both "story videos," but they were upbeat, uplifting, exuberant and easy to follow. These aren't. There was one I could follow, in which a single boy is transferred to their all-girl class and they proceed to humiliate him. He manages to give as good as he gets and by the end they accept him. That was the closest I could find to a positive in the ones that have stories. The only video of the 13 that I really liked was "Seifuku no Mannequin." That was the kind of thing I was looking for from this group. Maybe a concert would have been the way to go. Then I wouldn't have to put up with all the angst.

Also, unlike H!P and the other AKB groups, all the girls here looked alike and seemed somewhat interchangeable. When I first saw AKB48 perform, I learned a number of their names right away and was able to tell them apart. Quite a few stood out from the pack immediately, e.g. Minami Minegishi, Takamina, Atsuko, Sayaka Akimoto, Tomomi, etc. No one in Nogizaka46 had that effect on me.

Can anyone give me some context here? What's the organizing principle behind Nogizaka46? What am I missing?

Thanks.

I saw a 48/46 fan sum it up nicely. The 48 girls are like the fourth or fifth cutest girl in your class, whereas a girl like Shiraishi Mai is that really beautiful unapproachable girl. Nogizaka and their sister group Keyakizaka aren't going for that flawed girl next door thing and that's why they're less distinctive looking. Quite a few of them do quite a bit of real (as in non-gravure) modeling for fashion brands.

They're the big thing in the idol world though. Their current single will hit one million in the long run and they're pulling near AKB sales with only a fraction of the girls.

AKB48 started off really dark, too. Some of their PVs dealt with themes like prostitution (Seifuku Jama wo Suru) and bullying/suicide (Keibetsu Shiteita Aijou)... Then they got super commercial and happy once they started becoming mainstream.

I personally love when Akimoto goes dark with the concepts. Curious to see the Nogizaka videos now!

Just googled her and damn, that girl really is beautiful.

I've watched a few Keyakizaka MVs and while I don't like the music the concept is pretty cool and the effort behind it (production, budget, character, etc.) really shows.
To be honest: I've only started with it because someone mentioned that Keyakizaka ripped off MM's formation dance but... while I don't think they're in sync (pretty hard with this many members) they just look better. You just know they really want to sell them and not rely too much on their already built-up fanbase. When I went back to H!P MVs they looked really, really cheap. Even the newer ones or the ones that I liked.

Also, I totally get why the 46 groups are generally more popular with girls.

The 46 girls aren't any more talented than any other idols but the way their company has presented them makes them look ultra polished.

I don't like Keya's music either. Silent Majority was built up by everyone to be some masterpiece and it was a huge letdown once I watched.

I felt the same. I ended up liking some of the B-sides (namely Shibuyagawa) better than it, lol.
