Japanese e-books

Post by sadude »

Does anyone here have any experience finding, buying, and/or downloading Japanese ebooks?

I've googled and searched in Japanese, but there's an overwhelming amount out there and I'm wondering if anyone else knows some good sources firsthand. I'm specifically looking for stuff aimed at kids or young adults or whatever you want to call it- something that isn't going to be too complicated.

I have a Kindle, but can convert it from whatever format if it doesn't have DRM.

Never really looked. I assume Amazon Japan would have them, but it might be region locked since it doesn't let me buy anything from their mp3 store, despite being able to buy the physical CD from them.

Since the iPad was out there, I thought they might have some.

Nah, iPad uses Apples iBooks Store.

Are you looking for translated ebooks or books with the symbols?

You can use any PDF on Apple devices though. I've got several books on my iPhone that aren't from their store.

Books in Japanese.

I found a few apps in the iTunes App Store for Japanese ebooks (shinanobooks and something else), but their selections were atrocious.

I meant to write this post a couple of weeks ago, but got sidetracked. I did do some research back then as to the status of the Kindle in Japan. I'm surprised and happy that news has come out about it since then.
