Idol, Kotone Mai had a live event called Kotone no Hi on May 10th, in which she invited a bunch of female idols and such to perform. OCHA NORMA came as representatives of H!P as she's a big H!P fan. Also, because why not? Murota Mizuki, YOUPLUS and the new group Shimamura Uta is in (Kyururin te shitemite) were also there.

Anyway, the H!P OGs got a picture together.

I first thought this picture was photoshopped. So great to see them all together.

Tweet description: "Kanazawa Tomoko announced she is retiring from Show Bussiness at the end of this month", link to oricon news here.

Tomoko was my favourite idol ever since the golden era blurried away, so I'm really, really bummed.
But since it seems to be because of her illness there's no other way.

I get the feeling from that article that having to go at it alone on top of her physical health issues ended up taking a toll on her mental health.

This weeks M-line Music episode is pretty good all the way through, starting with a preview of the MV for Karin's upcoming single "Nantettate I Love You." It's pop-funk-a-disco, and probably the most J=J sounding thing she's done since going solo. I dig it. KSSers Yulia, Karin, Honoka and Ayana are her back-up dancers.

At 6:02 Miyabi performs "Joshikai The Night" from BK's 7th album.

At 13:00 it's Bitter & Sweet with a really nice cover of "Tanpopo."

At 24:45 Akane joins Miyabi, Reina and Risa for a really great cover of "Ambitious! Yashinteki de Ii jan." Guys, is it just me or has Akane become pretty good? Like better than no-longer-sucks? Because I think she's great on this, both singing and dancing. She's obviously not on Miyabi's or Reina's level as a singer, but she doesn't sound out of place next to them, either, and and she looks really confident. It took nearly eight years, but I'm kinda liking the 12th gen now.

It's a good song.
It's a bit of a shame that idol solo artists aren't a thing anymore. Karin has a lot of charisma.

If you ever wondered what Ogawa Makoto was up to...

She's in an advertisement for a drink with Niigaki Risa!

Generally speaking, I've thought (and talked and researched) about Makoto quite a bit the last few days. She's probably the most active OG that is nearly completely forgotten in the fandom. She does several stageplays a year, but usually only indie productions. Every now and then she does little commercials, events and even had a food truck event in 2020.

I think you embedded the wrong tweet.

I always like seeing Mako pop up here and there in my Twitter feed, because she's among the most underrated OGs.

Since Vtubers obviously aren't a thing here, I'll post it in this section: https://hololive-fc.com/video/smdetKTyhYtz7XAKG5nbxC3T

Maki Goto collabing with Hololive. Apparently it's a fan club only stream, but the first bit of it is free to watch there.

Watching this stream with Maki is pretty nuts since Maki is the entire reason I fell in love with idols, and while it had been a long time since I enjoyed something that much, Hololive has rekindled that spark for me. It's also crazy that without Maki, the entire genre of Vtubers may not even exist, since there's pretty much a direct line of Maki joining MM, elevating them to a cultural phenomenon, leading to the Idol Boom and groups like the 48s, leading to virtual idols.

Murota Mizuki dropped an MV preview to her new song B.N.P. - Brand New Pride.

Well, if that's the sound she wants to go for... hopefully they'll release the full MV on YouTube this time

Murotan seems adamant on recording music that she's not really suited for.

In other news, some asshole did a mash-up of Momochi's and Manakan's versions of "Moshimo..." and put it Dailymotion, because YT shut that shit down.

Nice mashup! It works really well. Manaka is definitely Momochi's model student.

And yeah, I get that Murotan wants to be cool and shit, but this ain't it.

Sayuki started uploading older covers (visible from her hair colour and setup, probably):

A bit rawer than her last cover, but probably not edited (or not much) and with a different microphone.

Ha ha, they didn't even bother to plug a cable into that mic for the video. Unless it's some sort of mic with wireless built into it, but the body seems pretty small for that. Sayuki needs to do more of this, though, unless she just wants to be a Youtuber.

Here's Maki's first cover, "Zurui Onna" by Sharan Q.

I really wish H!P-idols-turned-Youtubers would sing more often, so I'm digging this. Kago is obviously the gold standard, but even once a month from Mikitty and Nono would be awesome.

Meanwhile, Sayuki is using her channel to get her makeup done by Yua Mikami.

Saw this little nugget on Jplop and thought it might interest a few people here. Especially people like me who wonder how the non-H!P talent got paid. Especially someone like Risako who seems to do nothing but sit at home and post on Instagram.

From AMPED on Jplop.
Dekami-chan (formerly known as Paipai Dekami (ぱいぱいでか美) who is part of APOKALIPPPS. Real name is Nakai Yuki (仲井優希)), who transferred to Upfront's Partner company Y-UM Entertainment (Up Up Girls, Up Up Girls (2), Wada Ayaka, Kikkawa You, Tsuji Nozomi etc.), was on Yaguchi Mari's Kayou The NIGHT yesterday.

Dekami-chan went to the Morning Musume. '22 concert and loves Chii-chan.

Yaguchi and Dekami-chan were discussing Upfront. According to them, the Upfront-affiliated talents are paid on a salary basis and are covered by the company's social insurance and employee pension plan.

Dekami-chan "Upfront has a ridiculously awesome benefits package, and the social insurance paper is ridiculously thick."

Dekami-chan is glad she got into Upfront.

That's really nice to hear. Especially since a lot of the older members are married and might fall under the whole "a married woman doesn't need to work" idea - that's not the case, they get a salary, but even more important: the pension.

I wonder if they get employer-sponsored housing as well. I know Rising Productions does that.

Nice. UF takes a lot of shit on social media, and yet I'm constantly seeing stuff like this from industry people. I'm glad they're well taken care of, because they obviously have fairly short shelf-lives as idols.
