Oshi is short for oshimen: a #1 favorite. Often used by fans of japanese multi-member music groups as their #1 favorite of the group. It comes from the Japanese 'oshi' to push/support, and "men" is short for the engrish "menba", so the member one supports the most.
 
Although urban dictionary manages to put a negative twist on it just with their wording.

I don't see how?

Honestly "oshi" is one of those recent things I wish I could just erase from existence whenever I see it, together with "stan". But that's just my pet peeve.

I don't know, maybe it's just my attitude towards it? Since it's user generated, I've seen a lot of things. Perhaps I'm looking into it more than I should.

I don't like the word "oshi" myself either. I think all these new phrases are obnoxious as hell (oshi, Stan, bias, etc.) because it's really not that hard to say "favorite" instead. It's actually one of my biggest pet peeves on the Internet to read all those wannabe hip words, so that's just me personally.

It was and still it. I guess "oshi" just comes across as slightly less notorious than "kawaii", being both recent term and idol-specific, but yeah, we do have perfectly fine English phrases that we should use.

I edited the topic title for what it's worth (with extra AmE/BrE clash for added spiciness).

^ I always thought Kanon looks a lot like Fairies' Fujita Miria in the 2nd pic, but I never found a pic of Miria where she actually looks like Kanon so I thought it was only me

I used to be ridiculously obsessed with photobooks because they were my favorite thing to make graphics with, so I actually have... a pretty ridiculous number of favorite shots. 


Sayumi always looks gorgeous, but as much as she is known for her cuteness, I'll always think she looks best with a more mature style.  Her Kono Chikyuu hair and make up is like, one of my ultimate goals.
 

 
 
I'm sort of, kind of obsessed with any picture that showcases Goto Maki's wonky nose because I think it's probably her most striking feature.  Both of these pictures are from Foxy Fungo which is one of my favorite photobooks Of All Time (tm).

Not my favorite member, but my favorite member to look at. I want her face.   The picture isn't good quality, but I can't find a better one atm.

With all her photobooks and even her work post-H!P, I could probably fill up this thread with pages of Maki since she is my ultimate J-Pop bias.  Kamei comes second but I was having trouble getting hold of the photobook I was looking for.  I'll probably add some of her later.
 
Can we all promise to never forget Chain! Chain! Chain! though?  It's a really old photobook from the beginning of the end of golden era, right after fifth gen were added.  A lot of the photos have this really tacky, colorful yankii vibe and I love it. Not to mention Rika getting a bond girl theme - I've never been a fan of her but her bond girl photos are permanently etched in my mind.
