2016 saw a lot of new faces along with some unexpected losses. We didn't get everything in our predictions right last year, but here were the ones that came true:

Spoiler: [+]: Mukuro:
-ANGERME continues to release amazing music, epic Meimi graduation single
-Morning Musume 13ki auditions
-C-ute announces hiatus at the end of the year

Derby:
MM'16 - Oda and Mizuki fill the spot left by Riho
Country - They become more popular than J=J. Funaki is used as the main vocal. (I'm sure this one is debatable but I agree)


TicTac:
Country Girls: Yanagawa's color--purple
MM'16: Miki gets pushed more, vocally... Meanwhile Maria gets pushed more visually and dance-wise.
Ju=Ju: Won't get a breakout hit, but will perform at Budokan
Angerme: Moe will come to be a fan favorite
Tsubaki: No debut in 2016, continues on indies
Momochi: Leaves CG at the end of the year (Though she announced at the end of the year, didn't leave.)
-Miyabi's group is arranged, but has little activity
-Kobushi will get their first album (plssss)

iDOL1641
- Either Kanon, Erina, or Haruna Ikubo graduates.
- Someone in 12 gen gets an injury.
C-ute
- Announces disbandment this year either this winter or spring.
Country Girls
- They'll have a great year.
- Momoko announces graduation at the end of the year.
Kobushi Factory
- Continue being the superior Factory group.

JPope
MM
• New member auditions

Star
MM
-Miki and Maria continue to be pushed out of 12ki.

-13k audition with two winners.

C-ute:

-Some sort of scandal involving a guy.

-Hiatus announced.

ANGERME:
-Releases a kick ass song to make up for the loss of Kanon and Meimi and to redeem themselves.

-Kobushi remains superior.

Country Girls:

-Continues to be adorable and make me like Momoko more.

Myst
Country Girls
- Momoko announces, near the end of the year, she will graduate from the group.

C-ute
- Graduates from H!P

ANGERME
- Moe blends into the group well.

- Miyabi debuts with her new group outside of H!P. They also have a fashion theme.

Mizura
MM

- 13ki announcementin the spring. 3 winners

- A graduation. Probably Iikubo or Ikuta

- continue to have boring songs and MVs

Angerme

- Takechan gets more of a push.

- Moe, Mizuki and Kana get pushed as the main vocalists with Meimi gone

Kobushi

- They continue with the rock sound.

Country Girls

- They continue to do well.

Tsubaki

- They stay indies for at least another year.

- They adopt the edm sound.

- People don't care too much for them and the sales show that.

Yuzu
My only prediction is that there has to be a scandal. We have gone way too long without a scandal it is time.

Return of the Hinafest shuffles!
Tsubaki to have a few more members added to flesh out their sound
 But I feel like Mai is really not feeling it. So they may end up calling it quits if her voice doesn't improve.

My predictions for 2017:

Kenshuusei: Danbara Ruru, after debuting, fits nicely into her group.
Kenshuusei: We see some of the older girls leave after not being selected for the 13th gen of MM.
Country Girls: Momochi gets a solo song on CG's album before she leaves the entertainment biz
Country Girls: Yamaki Risa is announced as the new leader
Country Girls: They get an 80's-themed song
Kobushi: Budokan announced at end of the year
Kobushi: Please someone dye your hair I'm begging you
Kobushi: New single sales hit 60,000
MM'17: Fukumura Mizuki and Sato Masaki announce graduation
MM'17: 13th gen is a success within the wota fanbase and general sales increase, new album in 2017.
MM'17: We finally see/hear back from Sayashi as she returns from the states. She choreographs an MM song.
C-ute: Will not have a spring tour and instead will have more fanclub events.
C-ute: Graduation concert is a great success and Airi won't leave the stage.
C-ute: New KSS group named as successor.
Ju=Ju: Kanazawa Tomoko leaves due to medical issues.
Angerme: Wada Ayaka announces graduation at H!P summer concerts
Angerme: Gets to perform their tour final at Yokohama Arena instead of Budokan
Angerme: New hip-hop inspired song.

I was gonna start this after finals......

Anyways,
-I predict Iikubo to graduate MM.
-Inaba Manaka joins ANGERME and has dance battles with Rikako
-Country girls gets more members
-Masaki has a meltdown and leaves without a graduation concert
-Akane and Ogata Haruna are thrown into the back once 13ki joins
-Maria and Takeuchi create a Hello project baseball team, initiate an idol baseball league
-Kobushi continues to dominate over Tsubaki
-JuiceJuice who?
-We get a 3 month gap between releases

I'll probably add/change more once 13th gen is revealed.

I don't usually do predictions but I'll post since I only have two three:

ANGERME: Dawa leaves.
MM: Someone leaves because hopefully SOMEONE in management learned from Platinum.
Sayashi Riho: Doesn't come back even one smallest, tiniest bit, not even photos. She holds on to her ~2 years away with an iron fist. Await next year's prediction thread for the hope. (Negative Nelly here, y'all)

MM'17: Someone will graduate, I'm sure about that.
MM'17: Actually, make that 2 graduations. It's getting crowded. My money is on Mizuki and Masaki.
MM'17: They'll get an album, but it's going to be a best-of.
MM'17: Will become the company's main interest group again.
MM'17: Mizuki, Ayumi, Haruka and O. Haruna will get a photobook.
°C-ute: One member will leave the showbiz completely.
°C-ute: Airi will leave Up-Front.
ANGERME: They'll get one good an one boring single.
ANGERME: Since the company shoves their interest to another group next year ANGERME will have a so-so year.
Country Girls: Yamaki will be announced as leader. No sub-leader.
Country Girls: This will be a hard year for them since they keep losing their most popular members. Their sales decrease once more after Momoko's graduation.
Kobushi: Will continue to perform with other idol groups and build up a decent fanbase.
Tsubaki: Their major debut single flops (or at least sells much worse than recent major debut singles). (Granted, with Oricon's new rules they're cursed to sell much less than their seniors.)
Tsubaki: Will finally get Up-Front's attention once °C-ute's graduated.
Tsubaki: Someone will graduate late in the year after finding out that showbiz isn't for them.

Others: Berryz members will be on stage when °C-ute graduates. Maybe not all, though.
Others: This is still 2016 kinda, but Buono! will announce their disbandment at the Countdown concert, since Momoko will leave showbiz.
Others: Sayumi will be on stage with H!P.
Others: Sayumi will get a new radio show.
Others: No H!P girl will get into a scandal because nobody actually cares about them (indiviually) once °C-ute and Momoko are gone.

MM'17:
- 13ki winners are Danbara Ruru and a random new KSS who quits the group at the last minute before their introduction so Ruru is the only 13ki.
- After they introduce Ruru, Ayumi and Masaki announce their graduation for the fall tour.
- 14ki has 2 winners and they become aces, wich means they pack Oharu and Akane in a box and send them to Alaska.
- Haruka is kicked out because of 2 simultaneous dating scandals.
- Haruna is the only 10ki remaining and refuses to graduate.
- In other news they get an album and their singles have only 1 boring song, the other 2 are always good.

ANGERME:
- Ayacho graduates and then Rina. Kana leader.
- They get 2 replacements to keep the number 9 but they add this 2 girls together so they have a single as 8.

Factories:
- One of the Kobushi members has a broken bone and is inactive for months.
- Riko is caught smuggling drugs from Hawaii to Japan but she somehow blames it on Yumeno and Kiki and they both are kicked out.
- 3rd gen for Tsubaki.

My predictions are all over the place. My bias for wanting certain members I don't care about to graduated is kind of showing.

Fukumura Mizuki announces her graduation. (this one I'm hoping for more than it actually happening). More than likely, it'll be Masaki or Iikubo.
13ki end up being well recieved. Although Danbara Ruru doesn't get chosen and she leaves and debuts right away somewhere else.
Wada Ayaka announces her graduation in the fall.
Country Girls gets a new member or two with Momoko graduating and they still do well, moving away from the retro inspired sound though.
Angerme starts selling better and rivaling Morning Musume more.
A replacement group for C-ute is announced next winter (around this time).
Tsubaki Factory loses a members or two and becomes a bit better.
Sayumi has a job of some sorts involving Hello! Project.
Sayashi gets sighted in whatever place she is. There's later an announcement at some point where she decides to leave Hello Project entirely.
Kaga Kaede leaves at some point. The older KSS also either leave or join the UUG sister/next gen group.
Oda Sakura or Kudo Haruka ends up announcing their graduation.
Juice=Juice continues to be boring.

I want!!

MM:
- [Wishful thinking] Iikubo announce graduation because she realise is a burden to the group. (or maybe Erina or the other Haruna I can't stand hearing).
- [Will more likely happen] Probably Mizuki will graduate, and I'll be sad because the concentration of bad singers in MM is too damn high...
- the 13 generation will be a nice addition (as they are from the eggs).
- Masaki will be everywhere is terms of everything. a lead (without sharing 90% with sakura) is ahead.
- from 12 generation a see Miki being pushed more.
- Haruka will get even worse and might be out for a while because of throat pain...

C-ute:
- Release the last single, everyone will think it's great while I'll think they could do better...
- Up Front will milk the graduation to the greatest heights possible!!
- I will get to see Saki doing some badass dancing again (PLEASE!!!)

Angerme:
- [Wishful thinking] Rina will be pushed!!!!!
- [More likely] Rikako will be pushed because she is barely a medicore singer but a beauty and a good singer. and the resemble to Atsuko from AKB only helps.
- Someone from 2nd gen or ayaka will graduate, probably Rina or Ayaka. Kana is there to stay.
- Moe will be pushed because I LOVE her voice.

All the others:
- I might listen to them this year.

Juice=Juice:
- They will continue to waste Sayuki while Karin will basicaly sit on her...

MM17: 13th gen won't make much of an impact, but they'll be better than 12th gen.
MM17: Masaki and Mizuki will announce their graduations. Masaki will leave in the Spring and Mizuki will leave in the Fall.
H!P: Riho will come back. She'll leave Hello! Project. Aika will stay forever.
H!P: We will get another new group with a lot of 12th gen rejects.
Tsubaki: Someone will graduate.
Tsubaki: Management will brand them the new C-ute.
CC: They'll get new members.
CC: Mai will leave.
ANGERME: Another member from 2nd gen will graduate.
JJ: Tomoko will have to leave due to her endometriosis. They don't replace her.

I've been dealing with y'all's "Harunan is graduating" predictions for years and have always taken great joy in them being false, but now... I just suddenly got a bad feeling that this is the year. :/

Also Buono! Festa 2017 is a thing.

I don't think Haruna or Mizuki will go. They both strike me as unambitious Takahashi and Sayumi types who will stay until 25 or management starts throwing them hints, and the latter isn't going to happen to Mizuki since she's basically the most popular member. Whereas we have several girls who are about to be in Kanon's position where they have to start thinking about school and if they want to focus solely on that or forgo it and stay in the entertainment industry. Not that they can't do both, but I think the most of the ones who do are just the ones who get degrees to get them. Anyone who is serious about a future career will probably give MM up.

I'm going to start predicting new JJ members every year until it happens. I mentioned it elsewhere but next year they'll all be 18+ and aren't far away from finding themselves in C-ute's situation.

Predictions and Wishes

Morning Musume : Someone is leaving. Probably from the 10th gen.
Morning Musume : 20th anniversary. Semi-world tour. And an album release. (Probably 3 versions and one of them will have a cover of old Musume songs.)
Morning Musume : Gumis Return!
C-ute : They come to America on their Goodbye Tour!
C-ute : They Release a Mega Album like Berryz did with another cover of old songs but handpicked by C-ute members. (Wouldn't that be awesome?)
ANGERME : They don't suck, but I'll continue to be on the fence with them for the 1st half of the year. Momona finally breaks out of her shell.
ANGERME : They do a heavy metal song with Rikako as center.
Juice=Juice : They do a complete image change. Start a Fresh (Squeeze) Juice tour.
Country Girls : New members are added in the new year. And they release an album.
Kobushi/Tsubaki : Someones going to lose a member. I just haven't decided from which group. Probably Tsubaki.

Wishful Things in General

I FINALLY get that new H!P Group Song in the Summer after C-ute and Momoko leave. :D
Kenshuusei will release more videos on Youtube and or start releasing their concerts on DVD. Or just make a bigger footprint for foreign fans.
A group does a song for an anime.
New group is formed in the wake of the C-ute loss.
Sayumi comes back and takes over the MC duties as Makoto walks off into the sunset. She becomes the face of the new Hello!Project.

Hmmm, Tomoko does have a good voice for gospel and I think Sayuki could actually be utilized extremely well in that genre, she has a very "take me to Jesus"-esque voice, lol.

It's probably a pipe dream considering H!P, but it'd be a very interesting change. I think Karin could do it, but I'm really lacking confidence in Akari and Yuka.... Akari has gotten much better but she doesn't have the voice type I'd think suit it. Yuka is pleasant but she's not someone I imagine in gospel.

Here's my only prediction:

Neither Ikuta nor Iikubo will graduate. Other(s) will.

Well, that and I expect a drop-off in quality of music given to ANGERME, but that's totally subjective.

I wanna add one more prediction before the year starts...

-MM will start performing lots of Platinum era songs.

My guess is because the average age of the group will be higher than the past couple years, and they added some older KSS. Here's going to be everyone's ages in 2017 (After all their birthdays, so by the end of December 2017)

MM:

14th gen auditions announced near the end of the year.
Maachan graduates due to medical problems in the spring-summer time.
Mizuki and Iikubo graduate in fall-winter time.
Eripon becomes leader.
New album. Finally.

C-ute:

Airi continues to perform as a singer with a different company.
Chisato announces plans for a (likely short lived) UP-FRONT group.

ANGERME:

Rina graduates.
The group gets a song that goes viral and makes them immensely popular.

Juice=Juice:

Uhhh... consistency? That's what they're good for.

Country Girls:

Momo graduates, Risa is named leader.
Country Girls releases their first album. Included are the 4 unreleased songs they've been doing in lives, the '15 updated version of Hajimete no Happy Birthday! heard at 2015's Hina Fes, and a few other CM covers (Kakumeichikku KISS, please?)
They re-record their first single for the album so as to do their absolute best to erase Uta from history. LOL
Shiori Nishida (KSS) and __________ join the group.

Kobushi Factory:

Continued success.
Releases joint single with Tsubaki Factory in an effort to boost Tsubaki's sales.

Tsubaki Factory:

Major debut to less than stellar sales/reviews.
Releases joint single with Kobushi Factory in an effort to boost Tsubaki's sales.

Extra:
Uta will debut in a non-H!P indie idol group, or some kind of ***48 group.
Several KSS selected to form a new group.
Auditions to recreate S/mileage with no winners.

^S/mileage turned into ANGERME because they lost the rights to the name. So that wouldn't happen. Especially since ANGERME is still really just S/mileage just with a new style.

ANGERME is definitely not still S/mileage. New style, yes. But they're so radically different from S/m that I don't think you can say it's "just" a new style. ANGERME is much better, of course.

For a minute, I really felt like ANGERME was a S/mileage cover group. LOL

I just think ANGERME works so much better for all of them (except for like, Maro. But that didn't last long.) But the idols that they are today DEFINITELY are not S/mileage adjacent.

I just think it'd be really amazing if H!P could recapture the essence of the original 4-member S/mileage. It never really felt the same after 2nd gen IMO. They were good, but the change to ANGERME was VERY welcome.

Also, what is this about losing the rights to their name? Never heard that before.
