Hello!Project Members Ranking - Early 2022 edition

Post by DonJuan »

Some traditions are nice to have, right? So let's keep it up.
We lost some great ones, we gained a lot of new ones. H!P is certainly changing.
Also I know I wrote "early 2022" but let's turn this into a 2021 ranking, yes? You know, justice for Sayuki and the others that left us.

Previous rankings: '20, '19, late '18, early '18, '16, late '15, '15, '14, '13, '12

Also because we need something fancy after our very own non-corona-lockdown there's three sorters now!
Edit: But unfortunately some sorters have already kicked the graduated members. I'm sorry.

Onto the groups:

Re: Hello!Project Members Ranking - Early 2022 edition

Post by DonJuan »

I will just start with my own ranking, doing it in a seperate post to avoid confusion.
Last year's ranking.

Overall ranking:
1. Kanazawa Tomoko (-)
2. Haga Akane (-)
3. Yokoyama Reina (-)
4. Hirai Miyo (8)
5. Dambara Ruru (-)
6. Kishimoto Yumeno (7)
7. Okamura Minami (?)
8. Okamura Homare (?)
9. Kamikokuryo Moe (-)
10. Matsunaga Riai (?)
- - -
56. Onoda Saori (49)
55. Kubota Nanami (new)
57. Saito Madoka (new)
58. Hiromoto Ruli (new)
59. Yonemura Kirara (new)
60. Tsuitu Roko (new)
61. Nishizaki Miku (new)
62. Kitahara Momo (new)
63. Tanimoto Ami (51)
64. Nakayama Natsume
65. Yamagishi Riko (52)
66. Tashiro Tsumire (new)

One last hurray to Tomoko. Yes, I added her manually, I didn't do it with the others or else Kassa might be up there too. The rest of the top 10 looks pretty good to me.
I don't have anything against the OCHA NORMA girls, I just don't know them. It's no surprise that the other girls down there are Tsubaki members, though.

For the individual groups I will do my coloured ranking again, as always:
Like a lot - like - okay - don't care - go away

Morning Musume. '21
1. Haga Akane (-)
2. Yokoyama Reina (-)
3. Okamura Homare (7)

4. Ishida Ayumi (6)
5. Yamazaki Mei (4)
6. Kitagawa Rio (3)
7. Makino Maria (5)

8. Kaga Kaede (-)
9. Ikuta Erina (11)
10. Sato Masaki (9)

11. Oda Sakura (10)
12. Nonaka Miki (-)

13. Fukumura Mizuki (-)
14. Morito Chisaki (-)

Homare suddenly turns out to be the winner of my 15ki ranking. In general I love all of them of course, but she's just too cute. Surprised how Ayumi made it so far up there. Pretty much everybody under Kaede could say goodbye tomorrow and I wouldn't really care.

ANGERME
1. Kamikokuryo Moe (2)
2. Kasahara Momona (4)
3. Matsumoto Wakana (5)
4. Takeuchi Akari (1)

5. Sasaki Rikako (6)
6. Ise Layla (9)
7. Kawana Rin (10)
8. Kawamura Ayano (-)

9. Tamenaga Shion (11)
10. Hashisako Rin (12)
11. Hirayama Yuki (new)

Not gonna lie, the last year and all the graduations basically shook my rankings. I have no idea what to follow anymore in ANGERME. For all I know next year we could lose Takechan, Kamiko or Rikako and I will have to look for a new fave again. I'm tired.
By the way, Yuki seems like a good gal. I'm just a bit... weirded out by what other fans make her out to be. She basically subs for Kassa. Like, she's good. She's great even. But basically announcing her as a Kassa sub is kinda weird.

Juice=Juice
1. Kanazawa Tomoko (-)
2. Dambara Ruru (-)

3. Matsunaga Riai (7)
4. Takagi Sayuki (3)
5. Uemura Akari (4)
6. Inaba Manaka (-)
7. Arisawa Ichika (new)
8. Inoue Rei (-)
9. Kudo Yume (-)
10. Irie Risa (new)
11. Ebata Kisaki (new)

Riai is a rollercoaster for me lol, but I'm getting really fond of her. Ruru will probably take over as my Juice fave. The new kids are cute, but they probably won't be able to cover for the group's losses. Ichika is very entertaining though.

Tsubaki Factory
1. Kishimoto Yumeno (-)
2. Akiyama Mao (3)
3. Yagi Shiori (new)
4. Kasai Yuumi (new)
5. Ono Mizuho (4)
6. Yofu Runo (new)
7. Fukuda Marine (new)

8. Asakura Kiki (5)
9. Niinuma Kisora (-)
10. Onoda Saori (6)
11. Tanimoto Ami (7)
12. Yamagishi Riko (9)

Tsubaki is pretty much my anti-Juice=Juice. The Wario to Mario. The group has bangers, but I don't really care for the girls. The new ones look interesting.

Beyooooonds
1. Hirai Miyo (-)
2. Okamura Minami (4)
3. Kobayashi Honoka (-)
4. Takase Kurumi (2)
5. Maeda Kokoro (9)
6. Yamazaki Yuhane (8)
7. Shimakura Rika (6)
8. Nishida Shiori (7)
9. Eguchi Saya (11)
10. Kiyono Momohime (5)
11. Ichioka Reina (10)

12. Satoyoshi Utano (-)

Still on my "I love everyone" trip with Beyooooonds. Honestly, only group where I do not dislike any member. The ranking is a bit surprising; in a manual one I'd put Momohime a lot higher, probably top 5.

I can't and will not rank OCHA NORMA. I don't know them. Kirara was the kid with the curly pigtails and Kanami the one that one the test, right? I will hold back for now. Same with the KSS.

I did this earlier so I thankfully don’t need to do it again. I’ve noticed over the years I made it a point in the last few years not to add anyone that graduated the previous years so this rank doesn’t have any graduated girls.

I’ve been working on my googledoc like some weird obsessive fan (maybe I am!), keeping track of all my MMBBS ranks over the years. I wanted to attempt to make one giant graph but the sheer amount of members over the years kind of make it a mess. So I started doing them in the individual groups but I only got Morning Musume done so far.

My Rank List; view for complete breakdown.

2021 Member Rank

Love Love Rank.
Aside from the top two, the others may or may not ever leave the top ten unless they do something horrible or someone comes out of the bottom swinging a battle-axe to my heart.

Inaba Manaka
Hirai Miyo
Kaga Kaede

BEY5NDS would have been higher had they released more music or caught my interest past their last single. But it was like you have this candy and it's AMAZING, but then you put it away and then forgot you had it in the closet. Morning Musume was able to avoid this by releasing an album that caught my interest and finishing the year with a single that didn't suck as much as I thought it would. Tsubaki is in my middle ground mainly because I didn't like the single as much as I thought I would with the new members, but their album wasn't terrible and overall they made a good move with their new generation. It's like, SO MUCH ROOM FOR amazing! PLEASE DON'T SCREW THEM UP UF! (Like you did Juice=Juice) My feelings about J=J are basically the same as Jpope. ANGERME as gotten better only because I finally have a bean I like enough to replace my Meimi/Kanon loss and there's no longer anyone in the group I dislike. I just can't seem to find a love for their music. Ocha Norma, they newbies. No way they'd get out of purgatory that easy.

As I'm still just easing back into the H!P thing after easing out last August, I haven't seen the "Yuki is the new Kassa" talk, but it's crazy talk. I don't see any Kassa in her at all. If anything, she's the sub for Oota. Seriously, she jumped in -- DAY 1 -- as the fully-formed version of what we all hoped Oota would eventually become. (And by "we all" I mean "I")

It's funny, I jotted down my immediate thoughts of each trainee during the KSS recital, and I really didn't like her singing then, but she either had an off night or really improved a lot since then, because she's solid now.

I chose to do a current ranking, so no 2021 graduates. Sayubee was only around about a month, and Maa only put in about a months worth of work, so ranking them would've been all bias, anyway. Kanatomo would've been very high -- possibly 1st. That said, quite a bit of movement in my top-10, mostly based on me learning more about the individual members of Beyooooonds. No Ocha Norma, because I don't know dick about them.

The leading number for each is overall H!P rank, and the parentheses are last year's overall rank.

Top/Bottom 10
--------------
1. Akari Takeuchi - Angerme (2)
2. Ruri Danbara - Juice=Juice (3)
3. Kamikokuryo Moe - Angerme (13)
4. Yumeno Kishimoto - Tsubaki Factory (6)
5. Rikako Sasaki - Angerme (12)
6. Miyo Hirai - Beyooooonds/SeasoningS (7)
7. Yuhane Yamazaki - Beyooooonds/RFRO (33)
8. Miki Nonaka - Morning Musume. (37)
9. Saya Eguchi - Beyooooonds/CHICA#TETSU (26)
10. Kurumi Takase - Beyooooonds/RFRO (36)
--------------------------------------
47. Satoyoshi Utano - Beyooooonds/SeasoningS (47)
48. Shiori Yagi - Tsubaki Factory (--)
49. Ichika Arisawa - Juice=Juice (--)
50. Marin Fukuda - Tsubaki Factory (--)
51. Ayumi Ishida - Morning Musume. (39)
52. Kasai Yushin - Tsubaki Factory
53. Rin Hashisako - Angerme (48)
54. Risa Irie - Juice=Juice (--)
55. Ikuta Erina - Morning Musume. (45)
55. Chisaki Morito - Morning Musume. (52)

I don't hate any of the bottom ten, they're either just new or I'm ready for them to go. I know Morito is super popular in Japan, which leads me to believe that you have to understand Japanese to really understand her charm.

Morning Musume
----------------
8. Miki Nonaka (37)
11. Mei Yamazaki (25)
17. Sakura Oda (14)
21. Kaede Kaga (18)
30. Reina Yokoyama (29)
34. Rio Kitagawa (17)
35. Homare Okamura (31)
37. Akane Haga (28)
42. Mizuki Fukumura (38)
45. Maria Makino (42)
51. Ayumi Ishida (39)
55. Ikuta Erina (45)
55. Chisaki Morito (52)

I'm fully on the Nonaka Express now, and I'm ready for her to basically take over the group, either as Sakura's right-hand or with Kaede as her right-hand. Mei has become my clear favorite of the 15kis. I'm fully over the 9/10th girls, but you already knew that.

Angerme
----------------
1. Akari Takeuchi (2)
3. Kamikokuryo Moe (13)
5. Rikako Sasaki (12)
15. Kawamura Ayano (10)
19. Layla Ise (15)
26. Wakana Matsumoto (35)
32. Shion Tamenaga (51)
33. Hirayama Yuki (--)
46. Rin Kawana (50)
53. Rin Hashisako (48)

I wonder why my view of Take-chan is 180-degrees from that of MM's 9/10s, despite her having been around nearly as long as them? If she wanted to stay another 2-3 years, I'd be cool with it. UF has done a great job of rolling with all of Anju's departures and consistently reloading them with new talent that fits the vibe of the group. Kamiko, for the first time, overtakes Rikako in my ranking.

Juice=Juice
----------------
2. Danbara Ruru (3)
13. Akari Uemura (9)
16. Inaba Manaka (11)
18. Rei Inoue (24)
20. Riai Matsunaga (30)
28. Yume Kudo (41)
44. Kisaki Ebata (--)
49. Ichika Arisawa (--)
54. Irie Risa (--)

This group got gutted, and it shows. They lost three huge voices and most of their stage presence and personality. They're still vocally strong, but the vets are mostly calm types, with the exception of Manakan and maybe Yume. Perhaps that's why they chose the n00bs that they did. Ebata is the one I think who has the most potential.

Tsubaki Factory
----------------
4. Yumeno Kishimoto (6)
25. Mizuho Ono (49)
27. Mao Akiyama (19)
31. Riko Yamagishi (43)
36. Saori Onoda (46)
38. Ami Tanimoto (44)
39. Runo Yofu (--)
41. Kiki Asakura (16)
43. Kisora Niinuma (40)
48. Shiori Yagi (--)
50. Marin Fukuda (--)
52. Kasai Yuumi (--)

This ranking looks all wrong to me considering how much I like TF, but I double checked it, and while I could spend time and adjust it a bit, it wouldn't change much. Kishimon just keeps getting better. I don't know if Omizu was always so reliable and I just never noticed or if she actually improved last year, but she's pretty good. I wish Mao were as consistent as her, because she can be really good, but also not so good. Riko, Ami and Saorin won me over purely with personality last year. Kiki seemingly dropped of a cliff, and I'm excited for the n00bs even if they all rank low.

Beyooooonds
----------------
6. Miyo Hirai (7)
7. Yuhane Yamazaki (33)
9. Saya Eguchi (26)
10. Kurumi Takase (36)
12. Minami Okamura (27)
14. Momohime Kiyono (4)
22. Shiori Nishida (32)
23. Maeda Kokoro (20)
24. Kobayashi Honoka (22)
29. Rika Shimakura (23)
40. Reina Ichioka (34)
47. Satoyoshi Utano (47)

Biyo supplants J=J as my favorite H!P group as I've come to learn more about the individual members and they continue to release great songs. Five members made double-digit leaps, with two -- Yuhane and Kurumi -- jumping up over 20 places. Momohime dropped 10 spots because I don't think she improved like I hoped she might, but she's still pretty high at 14. 75% of Biyo are above-average idol singers, and 100% of them are impossible to dislike.

To be fair it wasn't that many people, and mostly fueled by her taking over Kassa's lines.
I guess it's both in terms of improvement. The girls are usually madly nervous during those tests, and on top of it it's been a year.

Someone made a new ranker on tiermaker and I appreciate a nice visual ranker, so I wanted to share.

And while I'm at it, my ranking:

Image

No real ranking among the ranks themselves but hierarchy/seniority. B is where basically everybody goes, A is girls I like, S is girls I love. C is slightly negative feelings (though it's somewhat unfair to Rin) and D can leave tomorrow and I wouldn't care.
