[quote name='JSp' post='77605' date='Mar 24 2010, 08:50 PM']Considering the venues get smaller and smaller, maybe UFA isn't making any money at all...[/quote]

Call me a cynical old fart if you will but I would imagine that as soon as any of the H!P acts fall below some kind of pre-determined profit margin they would be history.

I wonder how many recent decisions were purely financial, the OGs graduation, the break-up of MKB. If the acts were on fixed salaries at H!P and not making much money they could move them to M-line for example and just pay them according to the work they bring in so UFA are guaranteed a profit.

With all the acts on a general downward slide of record sales I hope to God the concerts/merchandising hold up or we are going to be a group of very unhappy bunnies. Hang in there wotas, you're doing a great job <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />.

Yes, sorry for my exaggeration. Of course they are still bringing something home, but all the choices still seem a little on the safe side to me. Except for °C-ute, maybe. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But Morning Musume and Berryz Koubou or even Mano Erina's releases all seem to seek keeping their fans only and the little effort to get more people to buy them is really little indeed.

And I totally agree with you on your last point too! Japan's market is decreasing. I mean, 100,000 copies is the new million after only ten years. Even if you have AKB48 selling a lot, they are the exception. I also hope the sales hold up and they don't decide for a mass graduation again.

I would like to thank the Wonderful World Wide Web for the decrease in sales. Just like Al Kusanagi said, they've had the lowest sales and yet they still hit in the Top 10 range. I mean, H!P still sees the profits from sites like iTunes and JapanFiles; but it's the other people who upload the songs on a tracker or a website for sharing and the songs are downloaded and no one thinks anything of it that H!P (and chart sites) get the shaft. I think the people who generated the rankings need to become updated to the 21st century and start counting things being sold on the internet. I mean, Oricon is just now including sales from yesasia.com; but there are other sites like cdjapan and JapanFiles, and iTunes that can be counted as well.

Also, not to mention that sometimes on these sites you can just buy the song instead of the whole album. I know I was trying to decide whether to save money and only buy the songs on 10 My Me that I don't have (since I already bought the mp3 of the singles that are up there) which is what I normally do; or just buy the entire cd and not worry about the songs that I already have. I went with the latter (which I bought the US edition so I won't see it for another 3 weeks <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... pyeyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ).

If you mean the exception for female idol groups, then sure. But overall, there are a lot of artists selling more (or equal to) AKB - check out this thread. But as a whole, the music industry worldwide has taken a dive on sales for sure. The current shitty economy in Japan isn't helping MM too much either.

CDJapan sales have been counted by Oricon for a while now. Yesasia is the one that's late to the party. But really, I doubt sites like that make a huge difference in the charts. It would be nice if they counted iTunes sales, but at that point it gets kind of messy (what if someone bought just the A-side, or just the B-side? Should that count the same as a sale for the full single?)

UFA still makes a killing off of H!P. CDs and stuff don't gain lots of money, but concerts/events and the goods they sell along with them are incredibly profitable. It's the reason why each group does 2 concert tours a year with 20-ish tours along with the H!P concert tours twice a year instead of cutting back and just doing a few big arena shows.

And yeah, even if MM's CD sales aren't so hot, their Oricon placings haven't dropped nearly as much. The fact that Furusato peaked at #5 in its first week with over 100,000 copies sold and that you can hit #1 with as little as 30,000 copies nowadays if you hit a good week is a sign of the whole industry not doing so hot in physical copy sales.

There are also lots of wotas who refuse to buy CDs if they don't come with anything special (Event tickets) and will just download the single off of iTunes/pirate it/stream it from Youtube if they ever want to listen. And even then, H!P's event tickets are done by lottery which puts some people off from buying them.

Concerts are a different story though. People will often go to as many concerts as their money will let them. UFA knows this, and that's why they'll do a bunch of small venues instead of one big venue.

Wow thank god for this thread....

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I haven't really listened to a full Morning Musume album since the 6th...which is when my fandom took a nosedive. The 6th was such a big disappointment that I thought I wouldn't bother anymore; for the 7th, 8th, and 9th album, just hand-picked a handful of songs to download. There was so much positive response in this thread, though, that I gave it a whirl.

Here is my review. Sorry, it is a bit of a step away from the current talk about concerts!

1. Moonlight night ~月夜の晩だよ~ [Moonlight night ~Tsukiyo no Ban da yo~]

I like the weirdness of it. I don't know if it really comes together for me, but neither did Koi no Dance Site initially. It doesn't recall Man Power, except in the beat.

2. 気まぐれプリンセス [Kimagure Princess]

I really can't get over the iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ja naiiiiiii and oddly, it recalls Ali Project for no damn reason.

3. 元気ピカッピカッ! [Genki Pikappika!]

This song fits the perfect profile of one those generic jpop tunes that can double as an anime theme song from 1997. 2 minutes into the song, I decided it would be a gym-song, because it is cutely cheerful but otherwise it didn't do much for me. However....3 minutes into the song, I found myself humming the chorus. I kind of secretly like generic jpop songs that can double as anime theme songs <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cryalot:' />. Agreed with missusagi: simple, unpretentious, unaffected, but attractive.

4. 涙ッチ [Namidacchi]

I love this! The song can't figure out if it is a ballad or high beat power anthem, but it somehow works really well. I love them singing in chorus.

5. 女が目立って なぜイケナイ [Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai]

Hated and still do, even without the toilet-paper-princess PV in my face.

6. 大きい瞳 [Ookii Hitomi]

I don't like autotune. This fits the same comments I had for #3's Genki, except this song tries harder to be "angstier" and I already hit "skip" 3 minutes in.

7. あの日に戻りたい [Ano Hi ni Modoritai]

Hm. I found the melody to be too repetitive for this to really hit me as a ballad.

8. なんちゃって恋愛 [Nanchatte Renai]

I like this so much more now, oddly, then when it first came out. It somehow reminds me of Do It Now.

9. 大阪 美味しいねん [Osaka Oishii Nen]

This song would be improved if the girls didn't sound soo exaggeratedly masculine. However, the cheesiness of their performance is incredibly distracting and this is a song I'll likely skip.

10. Loving you forever

The opening bars made me roll my eyes in its generic-ness BUT, soon into the song I found myself really enjoying it. It is still generic, but pleasant in that way <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

11. しょうがない 夢追い人 [Shouganai Yume Oibito]

LOVEE LOOOOVVEEE LOOOVVEEEE.

12. 雨の降らない星では愛せないだろう?(中国語Ver.) [Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou? (Chinese Ver.)]

Despite my disliking mm slow songs, I do enjoy this and will go hunt down a Japanese version so I can hear the lyrics. Who sang this song the best in Japanese? Though I youtubed it a few times, this was really the first time I really heard this song. Shocking huh?

Thanks for the reviews guys!!!!

I listened to the album just yesterday... overall, it's pretty good. None of the new songs really stand out for me though (except Namidacchi, which is a great song!).

I was rapt about the beginning of Ooki Hitomi, thinking it might be an electro/dance song... but ultimately disappointed with the song >.< They need to do some Ami Suzuki songs, onegai!!!!!

Two things:[quote name='Beecubed' post='77766' date='Mar 27 2010, 11:37 PM']They need to do some Ami Suzuki songs[/quote]

1) The problem with this is, no one wants to make Suzuki Ami songs, fabulous as they may be. Good electro/dance is made by underground, sub-mainstream producers where sales are driven by long DJ tours in small clubs on tiny labels who lend to them creative control in exchange for low, LOW production costs. Mainstream Japanese producers want to make dance-y pop songs that will sell everything in one week for their large labels who spend money on advertising and in-store displays. These two never mix well and UFA/zetima is mid-sized enough to know they aren't equipped for it. Anymore.

[quote name='Beecubed' post='77766' date='Mar 27 2010, 11:37 PM']onegai!!!!![/quote]

2) Just a heads up. You could be greatness. YOU ARE THE FUTURE <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... omgwtf.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

Because it's Rika's favorite, hmm? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />

Out of the new songs I really like Moonlight Night, Namidacchi (not for this reason, haha), and Osaka Oshiinen; I really like the quirkiness of Moonlight Night and Osaka; I like songs that stand out because they're strange, and this album doesn't disappoint.

Also, Ame no Furanai... I'm torn, tbh. Chinese version's cool, but they keep pushing Ame no Furanai. It's the new Furusato, and while I really love Ame no Furanai (It has made me cry. a lot), it's at the cusp of getting pretty old.

I swore up and down that I wouldn't like this album and would NEVER listen to it. Well, I'm on my second day listening to this whole album over again and I love (most of) it! Here's my review of each track, blah blah I know I'm late to the MM love party.

01 - Moonlight night ~Tsukiyo no ban da yo~ -It's catchy and not in the best way. I still think it sounds like Malice Mizer and ALI Project had a baby together and it was born a bit early. I will say that Risa IS my favorite from this song, her voice is haunting. Sayumi's last line is pretty good too. I think Genki+ was one of the best openers ever, so I don't that I'll ever be able to like another opening as much as I like Genki+.

02 - Kimagure Princess - One of my favorite singles, I love the chipmunkness now. Just took about 100 listens to really feel the groove of it.

03 - Genki Pikappika! - I thought Ai was gonna start with "TANOSHII TANOSHII NATSU YASUMIIIII" when I first heard this song. It's pretty general in execution and lyrics. Genki Pikappika should sound more...GENKI shouldn't it? Alas.

04 - Namidacchi - A surprising favorite or mine! I get a bit bored in the beginning but the chorus is just so epic! I love singing along with it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

05 - Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai - I forget I had listened to it right after it stops playing. That is a very bad sign.

06 - Ooki Hitomi - Something about this song is just so bad it's good. Eri sounds flawless and Reina is passing but...poor Sayumi. Filtered and she STILL is bad. Plus, I feel like I've heard this song before....

07 - Ano hi ni modoritai - Risa shines in this song, she really does. I love the way Ai and Risa sound without the rest of MM in a depressing song. The result of this recording is a wonderfully brilliant song I can listen to over and over....and maybe cry in a corner after.

08 - Nanchatte Renai - This song is one of my favorites, but I think that I over listened to it and just skip it <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':dammit:' />.

09 - Osaka Oishiinen - I hate this song, burn it with fireeeee.

10 - Loving you forever - Very simple song, but I like it. It's slow and I imagine myself walking through snow when I listen to this song. Is that a good thing?

11 - Shouganai Yume Oibito - I can listen to this song forever and ever. It's fun now that I stop comparing it to all the recent MM singles. That's all I can say about it! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

12 - Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou (Chinese Ver.) - Fucking amazing, it's just Lin and Jun right? Brilliant, really. One of my favorite MM songs ever and that's a pretty impressive thing.

Finally arrive last friday and I've had a few days with it. Not their best by a long shot, but better than the last few. Actually, since there's no Koharu, it's 100 times better than their last few.

01 - Moonlight night ~Tsukiyo no ban da yo~

Meh. Far too much like Chokkan which was never big with me to begin with.

02 - Kimagure Princess

The first time I heard the song a while back I thought it was a sped up remix. And that sucks. It would be great if they didn't sound like the goddamned Chipmunks. There HAS to be a slightly slowed down and/or filterless version of this song out there somewhere. If not, then THAT needs to be the next remix.

03 - Genki Pikappika!

This is more like it. A nicehappyfunenergetic song that you hearkens back to the goodness of 4th Ikimasshoi. I like.

04 - Namidacchi

Fuck yes! This is the kind of song I've been waiting for. This is the kind of song they would have done around 2001-2003, and that makes me happy. As soon as it's done, I usually give it a second or third (or fourth) replay.

05 - Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai

I don't dislike it, but it gives me visions of someone throwing Osaka Koi no Uta and Iroppoi Jirettai in a blender.

06 - Ooki Hitomi

I like it. It's got a nice chorus and RoboSayu.

07 - Ano hi ni modoritai

Again, sounds like something off of 4th Ikimasshoi or possibly No.5 and that's good.

08 - Nanchatte Renai

Definitely my favorite of the singles on this album, but nowhere near the album's best.

09 - Osaka Oishiinen

It grows on you, but sounds like a cross between a Mini-Moni song and one of their older album songs that escapes me at the moment. Kansai represent!

10 - Loving you forever

A nice laid back song that brings to mind a pre-4th gen MM. I could just see Nacchi centering this one.

11 - Shouganai Yume Oibito

Meh. I like the chorus, but find it completely unmemorable as a whole.

12 - Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou (Chinese Ver.)

Beautiful song, but I still prefer the original unless they release a PV for it of Junjun singing while dressed in a bikini with banana eating scenes. Then I'm sure it would become my favorite.

A quick search on youtube netted me this, and the higher pitched parts are lowered, but then the normal parts also had to be lowered, so we're left with a hilariously deep Takahashi. I kind of liked the "chipmunk" parts, but this seems cool too. It's certainly... different.

They sing "Kimagure Princess" live at Koharu's graduation concert and they sing it mostly in their normal voices, as far as I could tell.

Talking about Kimagure Princess, the other day I slowed the instrumental a bit and was surprised at how amazing it sounded. It made me actually like the song! About the YT video, the normal parts with the lowered pitch sound funny. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (And whoah, Koharu was still around... Kimagure Princess - NINE SMILE

Reina is singing in her normal voice, Ai is really struggling. I think they turned up her track...Risa is struggling too.

I've heard the lower pitched version. Ai should've sang like that. XD

And on a side note, I FINALLY heard the similarity between Moonlight Night and THE Manpower!!!. It's there, but not enough for me to consider it a "Manpower remixed."

Laaaate, but I just got mine in the mail yesterday.

Moonlight Night - I actually love this song. It's pretty much the only track on the whole album that really stands out to me. I don't really hear the Manpower vibe, aside from maybe in the bass, but that part sounds fairly generic to me anyway. I just like that this is wacky and upbeat without being too ridiculous like...another track later on the album.

Genki Pikkapika - It's an alright song, pleasant to listen to. I think someone else said this already, but it sounds like it'll be a much-abused concert ender or opener.

Namidacchi - This one is slowly growing on me, but it's taken a bunch of listens. It's kind of generic and less than memorable, but while it's actually playing it I like it? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Ookii Hitomi - Meh. Same feeling as Namidacchi in that it's not very memorable. The fact that every single line Sayu sings is auto-tuned to hell kind of annoys me. If it were a few lines from each girl, it would flow better.

Ano Hi ni Modoritai - I don't remember anything about this song at all. Every time I listen to it, I immediately forget what it sounded like. Disappointing, since I love these two girls together.

Osaka Oishiinen - Aaand this is the song I was talking about before. I was hoping this would be a very Kanjani8-esque song, something like Osaka Obaachan Rock or Suki ya nen, Osaka. Silly, fun, and catchy - i.e. Guru Guru Jump but about how awesome Osaka is. Buuut it's just a hot mess. I hate all of the "Yeah yeah yeah!" yelling LinLin does at the end, and in general the weird man-voice she uses throughout the song. It even stands out a lot in the group parts. This song is a waste of these girls.

Loving you forever - Another one I instantly forget.

Ame no Furanai... (Chinese Ver.) - I like it. I'll probably get rid of the Ice Creamusume version, since I like these two girls better. I don't really need 100 versions of this. xD

Overall this album was kind of a letdown. From the previews, I was expecting a lot of these songs to grow on me after the previews, buut that didn't really happen.

Oh, bitchfuck & a half, the CD's apparently not shipping until around April 10th. Guess I'll be downloading the album like most of you this week after all.

[/quote]

Well, shit in my mouth & call it a sundae.. Japanfiles sent me this e-mail, one day before this was to be shipped:

Dear JapanFiles customer:

The release date for the following CD title(s) has been changed:

Morning Musume - 10 MY ME

New estimated shipping date is April 28, 2010.

We sincerely apologize for the delay.

Thank you for supporting Japanese artists at JapanFiles.com.

I haven't listened to the mp3s of this album that I illegally downloaded since the week they went up, I'm not exactly feeling the need to keep my order if there's now a 3-week delay on what's essentially a random trading card. TnB, did you order from them or was yours the japanese release?

I received the same email from JapanFiles. I certainly made the preorder early enough for them to know they needed it printed, so I assumed they were delaying everybody's. The website now says "This item will ship on or before April 24, 2010." Which itself is still wrong, I guess.

Japanese release via CDJapan =/ That's pretty shitty, and I don't know how they could expect to make much money with business practices like that. You can have my trading card if you want? It's the full group. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I can't stop listening to Namidacchi. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... prised.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> When I first heard it it didn't seem that interesting, but after listening to it a couple of times it got wonderful! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /suika.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geof:' />

1. Moonlight night ~Tsukiyo no Ban da yo~

LOOOVE. Very catchy, very very weird x3 Ali Project esque.

2. Kimagure Princess

I just like this song more and more with each listen. Seriously, I could listen to this song all day, and the chipmunking is sooo cute.

3. Genki Pikappika!

My little sister looooves this song... I'm on the fence. It's catchy enough, but there's nothing about it that stands out to me. It's a generic Jpop song, happy, catchy, sweet, and that's all well and good but compared to the first two songs it's really nothing special at all.

4. Namidacchi

Another one my little sister really likes, but it hasn't convinced me yet either. I'm sure in a couple listens, it'll grow on me (love the rapping!) but for now, this is the song I constantly overlook when I think about this album.

5. Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai

This song is a single for a reason! Absolutely 100% love it! x3

6. Ookii Hitomi

Catchy enough, but the autotune gets irritating very very quickly. Not a huge fan of any of these girls, to be honest. I'll be skipping this one a lot.

7. Ano Hi ni Modoritai

My FAVORITE song on the album! I love Risa and I think her voice is amazing here. Really pretty melody as well. This one gets top marks from me.

8. Nanchatte Renai

Still love this one, but not as much as I did when it first came out. Too many listens, lol.

9. Osaka Oishii Nen

Hmm, I kind of like it but I don't like the way it's sung very much. Don't get me wrong, I love these three girls, but something about it is off. Maybe it's that it's the three of them together or something.

10. Loving you forever

Lovelovelovelovelove. The JunLin solos in the choruses are beautiful :3 Can't wait to do a cover of this one, hehe.

11. Shouganai Yume Oibito

Love it, not much more to say. Just all around beautiful <3

12. Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou? (Chinese Ver.)

I have three versions of this song on my iPod (this one, Platinum 9 Version, and the Ice CreaMusume version) and I use this as an excuse to listen to this song over and over and over... This is by far my FAVORITE version. JunJun and LinLin sound fabulous here - is it just the two of them the whole way through?

As much as I loved this album and was excited for it, I really haven't listened to it very much.

Moonlight Night is something I hope makes it to the local Karaoke boxes.

Genki Pika Pika! doesn't really shine until (haha, I didn't mean that pun, I swear) I listen to it with headphones, the sounds bouncing back and forth make it way more interesting.

Namidacchi is still a Shinkirou Romance paced song with MIKAN suddenly bursting out of its chest, which then belches out Dokusenyoku's rap, but I love it just the same.

Fat Yossi, I like it more than before and I don't feel so let down after passing the intro.

Everything else is pretty much exactly how I felt before. (in a good way)

It's sad, I made a CD for driving, and I probably had it for 3 days max before switching it. To be fair, Chatmonchy & Sakanaction won't take no for an answer. It was the timing really.

After having it for a while, the songs just get...boring. Anyone else experienced this phenomenon yet?

The only ones I seem to listen to are Moonlight night, the Chinese version of Ame no Furanai and occasionally Namidacchi.
