Most of S/mileage to become Voice Actresses

Post by tsukinobyouin »

Wada Ayaka, Fukuda Kanon, and Maeda Yuuka will provided voices for the upcoming anime "Hime Chen! Otogichikku Idol Lilpri" which starts 4/4. Poor Ogawa Saki seems to be entirely left out. Otona ni Narutte Muzukashii will be the ED theme.

I guess this could be taken either way relating to their up in the air debut. On one hand, you could take the fact that they're getting gigs like this to signal that Tsunku has no intention of actually telling them they can't debut. On the other hand, it might not mean much since they were doing anime related stuff with Shugo Chara even as eggs before S/mileage was formed.

I'm just happy to see a unit not designated to Shugo Chara at this point.

That anime looks fun based on the character designs. I'll give it a chance to see if the girls have any talent for voice acting anyway.

I'm wondering if anybody from H!P will ever participate in a worthwhile anime.

Good for girls they're getting more exposure. I too would wish they would have part in some more high-profile production, or at least something aimed at the teen rather than kids' market, but beggars can't be choosers. Maybe that's UFA's idea of raising future fan and idol generations. I guess it's too early to see any results yet even in Koharu's case, but maybe someone can prove me wrong?

On the other hand, even having a slightly higher budget and more mature target does not guarantee success - as was the case with AKB and the rather horrible ICE OAV which turned out an incoherent mix of SF tropes laced with thinly veiled lesbian fanservice (although they admittedly did a decent to good job acting)... Maybe idols and anime just don't blend with good results, and it only works relatively well the other way round (i.e. VAs turning into idols).

Let's see... The current otaku market is driven by:

1. Selling underage 3D girls to the lolipeds.

and

2. Selling underage 2D girls to the moefags.

Well, "fun" doesn't usually mean high-end production, and I don't know what I would think if the H!P girls attempted some serious drama (which would most likely suck horribly), so I'm alright with kids stuff for now. Though I agree that at LEAST an anime aimed at teens or something close would be better than something aimed at seven year-old girls.

There are tons of dramas from the first half of the 00's where the HP girls did great jobs.

I don't know - I thought Shugo Chara was great <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />. It was high budget, very popular, and very "visible" in mainstream kids entertainment. The character design was cute and the music, of course, was great. Just because its for kids, doesn't mean its shitty! Actually, I would prefer the girls stick to simple things like kids anime. It is so embarrassing when they are bad at acting -- Maki, for example, should not be an actress but she was in so many dramas and I'd just cringe and cringe and cringe.

I wonder if Ogawa is less popular among fans (she's...not as pretty as the other girls) and that is why they cut her out.

I'm not as much worried about the girls' performances as the kind of roles/dramas they'd have to star in, really. I can just imagine another eco-friendly short starring Ai or a live-action version of something reminiscent of Kirarin Revolution. I don't think they'd have access to the best dramas and just end up in half-baked romances with a slight chance that, on top of that, some of them probably do suck at acting.

She's also the only one that wasn't in Shugo Chara Egg, so maybe they're going for girls with more anime exposure/experience? Poor girl does have an enormous forehead though. Thank god they gave her bangs.

Hm, I think she looks cute, doesn't seem to me like her forehead is huge.

However, she has stoner eyes. Find a picture where she doesn't smile and you'll know what I mean.

First episode of Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri aired on the 4th and I found the whole thing subbed on Veoh.

Kanon, Wada and Yuuka sing the Opening as the Lilpri (Little Princesses) though I barely recognized them singing it since it was really low quality. I wonder if they'll release stuff like they did for Koharu and make this some sort of sub-group?

Oh and none of the girls can voice act very well. But I really didn't hear much from Kanon or Yuuka. This was a very Wada heavy episode.

The whole series seems like a Kirarin Revolution just with magical girl stuff thrown in (And better singing. xD). They even got the cheesy 3D graphics out for the dancing. If this thing lasts more then a season I expect to see some cosplay Openings in no time. ;D

They already have that cosplay shot floating around the internet.

i've seen a picture somewhere of the girls recording

apparently, they don't get to watch the anime while they record

maybe that's why they sound kind of emotionless -- since they don't really know what's going on..

or maybe that's how japanese voice actors record -- without looking at the animation o.O

idk, but i think they sound really cute <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

and the opening is really cute too <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

i hope it gets released as a C-side or something with their single <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It's true, Japanese voice actors don't get to see what they are recording for. I know this holds true for tv anime series (And even American ones because I saw a bit of Sunday about voice actors in America and they did a spot on the girl who does Dora the Explorer (she's only 14 by the way) and she didn't seem to be looking at any animation also.) But yeah I can understand why the suck mainly because they've never done voice acting before. They will grow into their roles, just like Koharu did in hers. (And I hated her for it. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />)

I think I remember seeing in a documentary about The Simpsons that the cast sit in the recording studio with the mics in front of them and just read straight from the script without seeeing anything. They said that recording together helped them bounce off each other and of course they are all very experienced/talented so they know what they are doing.

Also, animating characters mouths is a million time easier when the animators have the vocal tracks pre-recorded rather than the actors trying to dub over a guesstimate of good lip syncing.

This, and Turtle's post. I don't think I've ever seen a making-of an animated feature where the voice actors/actresses are watching the animation. That includes Disney and Dreamworks.

I haven't seen the series so I can't say anything about their acting, but they do look adorable in cosplay for it?

That's exactly the opposite of what my impression was. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... ek3run.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> At least for weekly TV series, where mouth animation = 3 or 4 frames tops. Storyboards with rough dialogue timings are sent for animation, and the results are dubbed as one of the last production stages. If it was the other way round (matching the animation to pre-recorded dubs) it would increase the production time and cost, and anime is all about cutting the corners.

Again, this goes for your usual TV series. High-budget movies are a different story, where they will often go as far as videotape the VAs during recording and animate the characters' faces based on their mimics. The never-gets-old Akira comes to mind as one of the top examples.

You're half right about this. It was mentioned earlier that some places use early drafts of videos so that the actors can get a sense of timing, and, like for anime, you're probably right. Still, the animators will get SOME sort of draft for how lines will be read, even if it isn't the actual actors.

I have a HUGE HUGE HUGE weakness for ridiculously cute things. That's what this show is.

It's not BAD; I know if I was a kid I'd be ALL OVER this and be a big an. It's cute, fun, and S/Mileage didn't do TOO bad, I'd say. I've watched both episodes and it's cheesy, but fun and cute.

Poor Saki.

Fukuda Kanon, Wada Ayaka, and Maeda Yuuka have done the opening theme for this anime, and will form the new anime unit "Lilipri." They'll be releasing the song "Little♥Princess" as a single on 6/16. You can hear it here. It's pretty cute, very anime-y.

Oh god my cute meter exploded. From what I gather of this little intro, you have 3 cute cute cutesy cute girls with their own cute animal sidekicks -- like squirrels. Then, they transform into slightly older princesses and get to wear (among dozens of current fashions) ballgowns to the palace where they play with pretty ponies. All of this is done to the high pitched tune of S/mileage singing in their cutesy cutest way possible.

I'm totally going to watch it haha.

All that stuff mentioned above about the acting is very interesting. I knew higher-end animated productions like Disney movies did the acting first/animation later format, but I was always under the impression that animation was finished first for anime and then actors worked off of the mouth flaps that way. More taxing on the actors, but for some reason, that's how I always thought it to be. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I missed the first episode of the anime itself, but the opening theme totally feeds the inner sweet tooth of mine that loves ridiculous stuff like this. It's overly cute and cheesy, but it looks like it's intended to be a real full-blown anime show unlike Reinya and other recent H!P anime endeavors. Also with a... I don't know... real budget, if it can be called that? Kirari always struck me as having lower production value than other shows I've seen.
And the woman at the end with the onion on her head?
